It seems to be a habit of Zan being late to the party.   lol.

Busy but still trying to give time to this game.   ;)

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

LOL: so a couple of players who are apparently Greco-Roman fans have it in for me with the whole Grappling thing. It's gonna take me a day or two to understand the rules as written. Even then, I'm sure there's a simpler way to do things though I am not quite sure how. I never was much for math once I got out of high school...all the percentages are freakin' me out!

That said, having just had a discussion with one of you regarding rules, I'm not gonna backtrack at this point. I'm gonna make it work in some form or fashion. Meanwhile, the management thanks you for your patience while we undergo renovations...

Regards,
The Seer.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Maybe not so much Greco-roman as opposed to not wanting to hit stone with an edged weapon.  Other than the weapon possibly being damaged, it probably won't do much damage.  That's the sort of thing you want to use a mace for.

I get it, and honestly I'm here to make your gaming experience as fun as possible. So I will figure it out, and we'll roll with it.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Alright my peerless warriors of the caverns deep. I've put together a much simpler set of rules for Pummeling, Grappling and Overbearing. Please visit the 'Game Rules' thread at the top of the game menu and share your thoughts. Is it workable? Does it make sense? Should I scrap it altogether?

I eagerly await your complaints, er, suggestions.

Yours Truly...

PS: I'm going await input before moving the game along. Two of you have indicated that they wish to grapple, so I want to make sure we've got a playable test case before screwing up your plans. Again, I'm here to adjudicate and assist and really want you guys to have a top notch gaming experience.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

For me it's a little hard to give any meaningful feed back until I see the rule played out.  Nothing stands out as being unreasonable though.  There are always going to be complications like in the present situation where we're fighting against stoned (as in made of stone not spaced out) opponents.

Given the current situation with Uthecar scoring a good initiative roll but a bad to hit roll, I take it to mean his plan to grab a leg and topple has failed, so he awaits his opponents reply attack.

I'm not sure how you plan to apply it to Zan and Uthecar attempting to wrap the rope about their legs and to pull them off their feet, but I guess it can still fall under a grapple attack.  To complicate things (sorry I don't really mean to) should the combined attack get any bonuses or possibly negatives?

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

So...my first mistake.

One of the rules gygax put regarding what he called non-lethal attacks was that you can't have anything in your hands if you planned attack in one of those three ways. I thought that was a fair rule, but forgot to add it. I've since updated that in the Game Rules thread.

Sorry for the confusion.

As a DM, I grapple with grappling whenever it comes up...which thankfully, is not very often.
To me the rules are as simple as nuclear physics. I really don't get it; they bog down the game.

I'm with you. That's why I'm trying something simpler that also adds to the enjoyment of the game. Gygax was brilliant, but in a mad scientist way.

I think we have a fair solution, and I thank you all for your patience. I've set up rules for using ropes to entangle. They are fairly simple to understand (unlike Non-Weapon Combat).

Take a look, let me know if you have any suggestions. I'm all ears.

Waiting on post holiday malaise for some of you to come back to the gaming table. Happy Memorial Day. Remember all who served, especially the spouses who kept the home fires burning.

There's a bit left to the story of Quesqueton, however, this adventure is nearly done. There is a final challenge, however. That will be covered in the next chapter, End Game in Quesqueton.

Would a dwarf want to be burnt or buried in the rock?  I would have thought entombed would have been more they way a dwarf would like to go though I am no authority on it.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Everyone's different. I think the decision to cremate vs. intering the corpes can be difficult - for me, if I am living in a fantasy world, I'd be worried about some high level undead or wizard coming upon my corpse and animating me. That's kind of creepy...

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Bruno's thinking as a dwarf is along the lines of what The Seer says.

As a cleric this is underlined -- he does not want to see a dwarf brought back as any sort of undead. If the prayer and other possible rituals around disposal of the corpse are proper then the Soul Forger will accept Bruknar back home.

As you leave the room, you can either go back the bat cave, or continue toward the next big cavern to the west.

Party, your actions please.

I'm still not really up to speed on our movement so I'll let someone else direct for now.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

That's fine. Typically Bruno or Kullonar jump in. Mostly Bruno. You'll be heading quickly out of Bruknar's pyre, closing the door behind. (It's a stone door that matches the caverns). The fire inside will burn hot and very quickly.

I assume you guys aren't going back to the bat cave - in fact, I recommend not going that way. Keep following the passage where you guys fought the spiders. Head to west.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Wow, we did it! You guys did it. We started this game in in September of 2016, a couple months before my Dad passed away. I was still in my 40s at the time. LOL. I'm 51 now.

Funny how we mark time.

I had a blast, this was better than I expected. Certain events resonate: the waif wraith, the troglodytes (and the shield that came with victory vs. the stinky vermin).

The hobgoblins, and that one poor bastard who wouldn't fall til the very end.

And even going back to the very start, and Chef, the werebear going toe to toe with the family of werewolves.

I hope you guys enjoyed it. I think the loot was pretty fair. I hope you guys kept tabs - I believe Kullonar saved some stuff, also the small, decorative box after vanquishing the spiders. Several other things too.

Anyway. House keeping coming up. Assume you guys make your way back to the inn where this all started. You'll see some familiar faces, and a new face who will help you to kick off the next adventure.

Thank you all for playing. You folks are excellent players, and I look forward to moving on to the Land of Song!

Final note: I'll be doing house keeping, specifically XP, and I want to take a look at your character sheets.

Again, thanks!
The Seer.
