Over the time since we've met we've traveled a bit. Recently, I've spent a lot of time healing fellow party members. That is, aside from Kullonar and the potion of Healing in Weasel's pouch there's me. The one you know of as the priest of Moradin the Soul Forger, the chief god of your people. (I.e., Dwarves.)

So I've never liked the rules for surprise in AD&D - too many iterations, and I'm not big on complex rules.

That said, I'll take suggestions for simple surprise rules. My own ideas include a natural 6 on the initiative means surprise, w/ a 5-6 for the ranger class (bonuses excluded).

Let me know your thoughts before we start this engagement. Once I decide on the rule, I'll put it in the game rules thread.

Your suggestion works for me.

You're the boss, boss.  We all know there are going to be occassions when the dice throws are not going to mesh well with stated character actions, so I'm still a believer in DM override power.  Whether that means characters are surprised even if the dice roll says they aren't and vice versa it's all good.

December 7th, known to most Americans as Pearl Harbor day, is also the last day of Medicare open enrollment (out state run health system for the elderly and the disabled). It is the end of my busiest season, which means a bit faster post rate, at least for the rest of the year.

That to say this: big battle comin' folks...probably this weekend, perhaps sooner.

So, initial analysis shows no cancer. They did further blood tests to rule other things out. Doc's thoughts are some sort of fungus spore got into the lung somehow - I asked if it was possible that the spore came from kitty litter and he indicated that was a definite possibility. He said the name of one of the spores that's linked to cat poo. Broke my jaw trying to repeat it...

Anyway. Worst part of the day was hearing that my mother in law was flying in to 'help out.'

The pain in my ass keeps getting bigger and bigger...
