Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

That's probably one of the better workarounds I've seen mentioned Zan, but I would go so far as to say the -15% penalty should apply from the get-go.  By the time you hit a races upper-level maximum, the character would have enjoyed all the benefits of being that race for several years whilst the humans would have just looked on and cursed their dumb genetics.

As the characters advance in level the demi-human racial benefits have less impact on their ability to survive as more powerful characters are able to replicate those benefits through magic if they want.  I've never seen anyone bother with it though.

Perhaps if humans are always going to advance quicker at lower levels, that might be the favour they need to become more popular.  As level progression slows with greater totals being required to achieve the next level there is even an argument to say the XP penalty could then be relaxed somewhat as the extra demi-human powers no longer provide that much more of an edge to those characters like they do at lower levels.

It's just another spin of the same coin.

Speaking from experience it's not hitting the birthdays that does all the damage, it's the days in between.

Agreed on the 'days in between' comment - I did a lot of damage on those particular days, while my birthdays seemingly always proved to be sedate (except my 30th, which was spectacular).

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

On Birthdays: I managed to swan through all of them until 50.

That was only two years ago (moving in on 52 now) and have to say that it was weirdly the most difficult yet. I think the deal was that up until now I only wanted to be 'older'.

When I was finally, truly, 'older' I sort of shat myself. Well, not really... Let's just say I had a moment of existential concern.

Having managed to get past that I can now related happily that I'm no longer having it.

Sort of. Yup. Uh, huh. ONWARD!

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Happy to report the back is getting better with the help of Advil.

Quality control moment: Anyone want to share their thoughts on the adventure thus far? Too slow, boring, great, fun? Feedback, even criticism, is fair, and I am a firm believer in listening to the players in a game.

Feel free to let me know what you like, don't like. I'll respond with respect, and will incorporate ideas that make sense in the overarching game.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Sorry to hear about another fellows back > the yard gods have blessed me this year and I have avoiding my otherwise yearly period of intense disc inflammation and pain, followed by lying around for two weeks eating Advil and being an asshole to anyone who comes near me. Gets worse with age, so I hear, and I can attest that I had never "thrown out" my back until I reached 50. (sigh)

I embrace the term "waggler" is my head bowed in gaming shame.
I shall hope to correct it today.

As for level limits or not, I don't care one way or the other. But Kullonar does, and he thanks you :)

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

I think it was the swelling in my lower back that worried me the most. I felt all along it was muscle strains, but right at my tailbone, there was a sharp pain any time I moved Wed & Thurs last week. Got better over the weekend, and today I feel about 80% better.

Still think it's muscle, but now I think there's a bit of inflammation in the lowest disk as well.

I don't mind getting older, I just mind the shit that comes with it.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Just posted a new map

The upper right hand corner is the room you stayed in last night.

The chamber surrounded by corridors is the room with the crystal in it.

A couple of you explore far enough to the left to realize the corridors seem somewhat like a labyrinth.

Others, including Kullonar recognize the corridor leading 'down' the map.

So, you have a couple of options.

Good luck!

Have to laugh. I use a 10 sided die for wandering monsters. Of course I rolled a 1.

I'm taking a long weekend, which means that I'll be relying on an iphone until Tuesday evening. Will try to post, but will probably be slow.

Gang - Initiative is yours. Zombies in 1st edition are REALLY slow, and never win initiative. So your initiative rolls are practice.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Howdy - leaving for labor day vacation on Friday - Will be out of town Until the following Sunday (9 or 10 days). Will have some internet, so I should be able to post a bit, but it'll be slow.

Nice job on the zombies. I'll post tonight, and try to post frequently between now and Friday to get you to a nice stopping point - will probably close the current thread and start a new one to set the tone.

Cheers.

Sorry for the delay - thought I'd have time to post, but, honestly, I got to my buddy's house and we partied for three straight days. I'll try to get the next post out tomorrow. Right now, sleep beckons...and tomorrow I'm going to go buy a new liver...

Cheers!

Bhaa you're still able to post, it's merely softened up the damage is temporary.  Probably still a few years before any serious cirrhosis sets in.  Purchase a bottle of whiskey instead to make it tremble.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Just read that - you're a funny dwarf Uthecar. There was a good bit of whiskey involved, but spent the past three days drying out so should be good by this weekend.

Heading back on Sunday - don't have my maps with me (well, that or I lost them in the drunken haze that was last weekend). Backups are at home, so...next post might be Monday.

I could always throw a dragon or two at you, but don't think that would be very sporting.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Guys, keep Kullonar in your thoughts and prayers - he lives in the heart of Wilmington, NC which just got sucker punched by Hurricane Florence as it hit landfall with a vengeance in his neck of the woods.

I'm about 100 miles inland from the coast, so although we'll get heavy winds and a good bit of rain, I think we'll make it out of this one fairly unscathed. Maybe the power will go out, but I think that'll be the worst of it for me.

Thoughts and prayers to anyone else in the storm's path...

Oh! I have a friend who also lives in Wilmington (never been there myself, but this fellow works with my husband who was out there earlier in the summer), so I get it.

Here's to Kullonar and everyone else in that beautiful place!
