OOC:  I don't think 'tough' is the right adjective to be using.  Deadly seems more appropriate.  At least we haven't been around long enough to form any attachment. :o)

To clarify - you don't have to re-roll initiative each round. I'll use the initial one for each of you (too much work!!!!).

Re: Day 2: Back into Quesqueton

Round 2 - with less melodrama:

Myrrick ignores the small wound inflicted upon him by the skeleton and swipes back, scoring a solid hit on 'ol dust-n-bones. The skeleton falls to dust with under Myrrick's 2nd attack.

Uthecar is resting comfortably, while the ghast takes umbrage at his spiritual advisor's swing and miss (Bruno missed the beastie). The ghast leaps toward Bruno in maniacal glee: the ghast missed with a sharp fanged bite, then broke a nail on the first claw attack, thereby negating the second (natty 1 on the claw attack).

Kullonar missed, checks the heft of his weapon, mutters something uncomplimentary about the human who crafted it, then considers his next course.

Zan fires another couple of rounds at the shadow. Neither so much as causes it to pause. Fortunately, he doesn't hit Weasel...

Speaking of Weasel, the diminutive thief tries to hold on for dear life, since it is the only one he has. Unfortunately the shadow strikes a telling blow...Weasel falls unconscious, his lips a deep blue now, as if frozen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In summary - ghast misses, skeleton dissolves to dust and shadow scores a hit against Weasel, who collapses to the floor.

No one else took a hit - party's melee round to attack. Good luck!

Re: Day 2: Back into Quesqueton

While it was frustrating to have missed his first attack that the ghast got past his shield and almost through armor was, well, unsettling. With the thing so near and his hammer needing a wider range of motion to be effective his second attack was even worse.

OOC:
09:58, Today: Bruno Rhunthane rolled 8 using 1d20+3.  Attack with Hammer.

NPC

Seeing his efforts with the shadow are futile, Zan turns and fires a couple of arrows at the ghast.

Both arrows fly between Bruno and Kullonar to nearly maximum affect:

14 points of damage to the ghast, which hisses in agony. Along with Kullonar's strike, the beastie looks a bit green - though that could just be his unnatural pallor.

ooc: I jumped in to move things along. Apologies to Zan's character...though I think I did okay in my impromptu effort.

Re: Day 2: Back into Quesqueton

ooc: I'll post tonight, I believe.
--------------------

Staying on schedule:

As Uthecar rests uncomfortably, Bruno flails about. Kullonar finally manages to hit the ghast, a slight wound...but a wound nonetheless. Zan, however, realizing a discrepancy between his aim and the lack of damage to the shadow, changes targets. Sure enough, his arrows fly true, and the ghast finds itself with two wooden shafts planted in its chest up to the feathers.

Meanwhile, Myrrick fells the skeleton and snags its weapon, which is of fine make. With a deft plunge, he scores a smallish hit on the shadow(3 points of damage).

----
Bad guys turn:

Predictably incensed by the arrows protruding from its chest, the ghast darts forth from between dwarf and half orc to attack it's tormentor. PLEASE NOTE, BOTH CLERICS GET A FREE ATTACK FROM A DISENGAGING FOE. IF NEITHER OF YOU HIT IT, ZAN IS HIT 2x FOR A TOTAL OF 11 POINTS OF DAMAGEROLL WELL, GENTLEMEN!

Meanwhile, the shadow, crafty bastard that he is, swirls around to attempt to take Myrrick from the rear. Its attempt at hitting Myrrick is unsuccessful.

-----------------

Party's actions - Bruno, Kullonar and Myrrick all get to roll. Zan will get to roll IF Kullonar and/or Bruno are able to kill the beastie.

Interesting fight.

Re: Day 2: Back into Quesqueton

Bruno keeps his calm and swings again, but the warrior priest can not connect as the ghast turns to move on Zan.

As the creature moves away he attacks again...

OOC:
09:43, Today: Bruno Rhunthane rolled 8 using 1d20+3.  Attack with Hammer. -- It's not only my 3rd miss, but this is the second time I've 8. Go figure.

Assuming there's a round once the Ghast moves on and the round continues:

If it is still within melee range:

09:48, Today: Bruno Rhunthane rolled 17 using 1d20+3.  att.

If it out of melee, throw the hammer:

Same roll +1 instead of +3 = 15

Damage:

09:51, Today: Bruno Rhunthane rolled 7 using 2d5 ((3,4)) -- Melee: 13 or Thrown 7.

Re: Day 2: Back into Quesqueton

Zan is overborne by the ghast. The vile thing scores multiple hits.

Zan is unconscious and bleeding. -6 HP and counting.

Weasel is unconscious and bleeding. -4 HP and counting.

Uthecar is paralyzed. 1 round and counting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The good news: Bruno heaves the hammer toward the beastie, and just before it begins to feast, its skull is fractured by the massive weapon.

(two baddies down)

Meanwhile, the shadow and Myrrick are still engaged, circling one another with baffling swiftness.

Bruno manages to keep his cool despite the horrible sight of seeing his friends brought down. The only way to help them is deal with that shadow!, he thinks as he quickly draws his short sword and moves to attack the things.

Attack with +1 Short Sword

16:42, Today: Bruno Rhunthane rolled 12 using 1d6+7 ((5)).

Well played - the die roller's gonna do what it do...but you guys hung in there.
--------------------------------------------------
Bruno dashes past Myrrick and attacks the ephemeral darkness with a vengeance.

The party hears a nearly silent scream as the shadow dissipates. A look around the room tells a grim tale. Uthecar is down. Zan is down. Weasel is down, again.

You look at one another and ask: what next?

Re: Day 2: Back into Quesqueton

Bruno is relieved when the shadow dissipates he turns and shouts as he moves, "Let The Cudgel balm the Weasel's wounds, while The Hammer helps the Grey Elf's!"

When he gets to Zan he casts Cure Light Wounds, calling on the All Father. Zan may be an Elf and as such the child of another father, but a cleric of Moradin knows that the word 'all' was not undertaken lightly by the Soul Forger.

OOC: I've got two available spells -- if the first CLW doesn't work, I'll use the second. And I write this naively as I can't recall how this works. I know that Zan is probably at -10 when I reach him...

22:01, Today: Bruno Rhunthane rolled 2 using 1d8 ((2)).

If required

22:02, Today: Bruno Rhunthane rolled 5 using 1d8 ((5)).

Re: Day 2: Back into Quesqueton

So, Zan was at full health when he was attacked by the ghast - so he's actually at -6 right now & bleeding out. If he were to reach -10, he would be dead, and need to be raised (which, for first level characters might entail quite a quest).

By healing Zan and Weasel, you stabilize both, and heal that much damage - if they're still below 0Hp, then they are unconscious. Each day of full rest I give 2 HP back as well.

Keep in mind Kullonar has healing as well.

Put it this way, between healing from Bruno and Kullonar, and then rest, both characters should be up and completely healed again in two days.

Uthecar comes out of his stupor after about an hour.

ooc: regarding constitution scores - if a player dies (-10 hp) in game, they lose 1 point of constitution permanently.

Kullonar runs to Zan's side and lays his hands upon the gray elf's chest. If Zan were aware, he would see the bracers adorning the cleric's arms glow briefly.
Once Zan's breathing has stabilized, Kullonar summons the true healing power of St. Cuthbert to heal Zan's wounds.

Re: Day 2: Back into Quesqueton

Bruno's touch brings Weasel back from the brink for a second time. The young human is weak, his lips still a faint tinge of blue, but he's alive. You note none of the swagger, however, typical of the young human.

Kullonar's efforts bring Zan all the way back to full health. To the elf, it's as if he'd never been touched by the ghast. Ginger climbs atop him - she hisses warning at any who draw near, except for Kullonar, whom she tolerates.

Uthecar is surprised - and happy - to find all his faculties in working order. It is a sobering thought, however, that a mere touch could lay him low.

After offering his suggestion, Myrrick tests the halberd he pulled form the wreckage of the skeleton and finds that he as a natural inclination for it. Though pole arms are not his thing, he finds himself able to wield it in the same way he would a sword, with all the attendant bonuses. :)

See OOC for some thoughts I have on the adventure thus far...

More likely he is embarrassed, and pissed/frustrated that it happened.  A few well time kicks to the corpse would help alleviate this frustration.  He will otherwise station himself within striking distance of the doors in case anything were to come through.  He is about as open to conversation as you would expect an embarrassed dwarf to be around new friends.
