Today: Uthecar Hornskin II rolled 1 for initiative.

Today: Uthecar Hornskin II rolled 5 (natural 1) versus poison.

The spears take Uthecar by complete surprise knocking him back, or maybe it was their effect combined with the stench of the Trogs.  Hastily he tries to arrange his axe and swing to hit one of the beasts, but his efforts are not effective.

Today: Uthecar Hornskin II rolled 10 to hit needing a 15.  (One point of strength deducted for the roll)

Re: Combing Quesqueton

The reach of Myrick's halberd is effective - he gets off a good blow with the business end of the pole arm and the trog nearest Uthecar is felled. His companion, angry now, attacks Myrick with a claw, claw bite routine the ranger finds fairly frightening:

1 claw attack hits for 1 point of damage. It'll leave a small scar that chicks will dig...

Uthecar and Kullonar, under the affect of the poison, both miss. Zan readies a spell (you see the first trog fall, so you may delay/hold your action or attack a different way as suits you).

Bruno touches his dwarven brother, healing Uthecar of 6 points of damage.

Weasel and your two hirelings will hold fast for the nonce, the two hirelings not wanting to shoot into traffic, Weasel because he's doing Weasel things.

Round two: Myrrick leads the assault on the second nasty. The rest of you file in order. Bruno, your initiative position is with Uthecar and Kullonar.

Re: Combing Quesqueton

I don't want, but we need a 1d6 dice throw to know how long our strength is going to continue to drain for thanks Seer.

With a snarl of rage and part frustration at his weakness Uthecar swings onto the Trog attacking Myrrick.

Uthecar Hornskin II rolled 22 to hit using 1d20+2 to hit. (Should have been +1 to hit with a further full strength point drained, but it was a natural 20 throw anyway.)

Uthecar Hornskin II rolled 5 damage using 1d8+2.

ooc: Uthecar loses one point of strength (taking him to 17 by my understanding of the rules) - the effect lasts for 10 rounds.

ooc2: Kullonar will lose one point of strength for 5 rounds. The cumulative affect will last for 10 full rounds.

I believe everyone else made their save.

OOC:  Or is it 19 strength down to 18:00 on the 1st round, down to 18 on the 2nd round and then 17 on the 3rd round with a further 7 rounds to go at 17 strength?

That's sort of how I read it but cool if you want to play it as 10 rounds at 17 strength but the Trogs power would have lasted for 13 rounds by then.

Re: Combing Quesqueton

A nasty miasma hangs in the close dungeon air as a battle for life and death takes place.

The party does its best, slaying one of the beasties, but the second trog is quick, dodging, ducking, dipping, diving and dodging away from the party's efforts to bring him down.

For their part, both Uthecar and Kullonar both feel bile rising perilously close to their throats. They are game, but neither is successful with their attack. Behind them, Weasel attempts to hide in the shadows of the corridor, but he's not fooling anyone. Caught in between, Zan can't decide whether to shoot his bow or attack with his sword. He chooses the latter, and misses. Bruno's effort is a fine one. This once, however, the troglodyte is quicker, dodging the blow narrowly. Myrrick, for his part, does a nice job scoring the stone wall behind the beastie with his halberd. It left a mark...

Suddenly, the party hears the sound of doors slamming open, and the grunting and hissing of several more troglodytes. The lone troglodyte facing the party hisses loudly in response.

Round one recap:

Both Uthecar and Kullonar are affected by trog stench. Uthecar is down 5 points of damage, Myrrick is down 1 point of damage. Everyone else is hale, if a bit put off by the smell.

Reinforcements will arrive in one round.

Weasel, trying his best to hide near the passageway leading back into the heart of the keep, hisses, "More coming this way."

At the same time, you hear several grunting noises, along with hisses, coming from the room where the first trogs came from. Seems the critters aren't bothering to sneek up on you.

We will stay on initiative:

4 for the Trogs

5 for Bruno
1 for Kullonar
1 for Uthecar
5 for Myrrick
2 Weasel
5 Zan
5 NPC Mercs

Re: Combing Quesqueton

A veritable host of trogs come from two different directions:

The first group appears from the passageway leading down from areas 17 & 18, and are immediately beset by Weasel, who attacks from surprise. This halts their march as they react to the the thief's sudden attack.

Both MERC NPC's are nearby Weasel, and let fly over his head with their crossbows.

Meanwhile, from the room where the initial pair of trogs attacked, comes four more of the buggers - the one at the front is a big bastard, with a wicked looking stone scimitar and a massive barbarian shield with a long spike affixed to the front. Strange sigils are engraved around the face of the shield.

Bruno, Myrrick, Weasel (surprise), Zan and the two NPC's attack first.

Trogs go next.

Uthecar and Kullonar, bile burning at the back of their throat, finish up the round.

OOC: let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!

Re: Combing Quesqueton

Weasel's timing is badly off. His attempt to stab from surprise is so far off the mark that he stumbles and falls to the floor. He is prone for one round.

Fortunately, the two crossbowmen are proficient in their craft: both hit their mark, the front trog, square. The beastie falls to the floor, black blood gushing from both wounds, while those behind him pause for a moment to gain their bearings.

(who knew?!!!).

ooc: is it just me, or does Weasel have the worst luck. Natty 1.

OOC: Party's move - I'll roll after all of you, and square up the round as best I can.

OOC: Cool shield!

I'm uncertain how this works exactly, but the description of the Bless spell says it can't affect those already in combat, but I'm hoping that my lead here will permit me to get the spell off before the everyone is engaged? If I'm wrong on this, Seer, may I edit this post?

Taking in the unfolding scene Bruno sprinkles holy water as he shouts out in Dwarven, "ALL FATHER! You have forged Uthecar and me, now hone us and our comrades now with your blessing that we may better cleave, stab, and smack these vile creatures!"

OOC: Bless: +1 to Hit and Morale in 6" radius around me.
