Re: Combing Quesqueton

The three adventurers, for that is what they look like, study the party nervously.

"Din't mean nothin' by it," the littlest gnome said, his voice pitched high and nervous. "Been getting our arses kicked regular, down heres. Dwinner got kilt by a couple troglodytes, Moorad got taken by some quick deaders. Sentark and O'Toole ran into a cavern and din't come out."

The dwarf and the other gnome both nodded agreement.

"Just want to get outta here, at this point," said the dwarf, his voice deep and troubled.

Re: Combing Quesqueton

Zan was none to happy about having to spend a spell to negate another, "Total waste of a spell."

"Uthecar, you're a faster runner than I."

To the others, "Ahh hell no, you guys gonna have to wait a bit longer before you get out of here.  The way I see it, your actions done gone a cost us a spell so by my reckoning you owe us.  And seeing that we know the way out, that would be two that you be owing us."

Re: Combing Quesqueton

Uthecar looks at his shorter legs and the plate mail he wears doubting Zan's words, but at least wise enough this time to let it go.

"We're not leaving son," he says to Weasel, "We've only just begun and suffered no fatalities.  In fact, with 3 more to the party, and one a dwarf to boot our power has just grown considerably so it would be foolhardy to turn aside."

He looks to the newcomers.  "It's not nice to see your spirits broken so, and even worse to hear you have lost over half of your original group.  We will help you get out, but you will need to lend us a hand as required until we get to a point where you can safely depart without suffering further fatalities.  For your much safer passage, we claim full ownership of any treasure we come across and will consider your debt to us settled.  Do you accept these terms?"

He looks to Zan to make sure the terms are acceptable to him as well.

Re: Combing Quesqueton

Kullonar awakes with a start and immediately wishes he hadn't. He hurts all over, and he works his jaw and spits a bit of blood onto the cold, cavern floor. He looks up at Uthecar and says, "I remember running...and then falling asleep." He rubs the side of his face and mutters, "Must've tripped and fell and hit my head. Prolly what caused me to bite my tongue."

Then he remembers the three strangers.
"Say, what did...hey! Did one of them folks cast a spell on me?"

He returns to the room and gives the three strangers a hard stare. Hearing their story doesn't change his mind about them one bit.
"For all we know, you killed your companions and are lying to us right now! Mayhap you're even bait for a trap! Give me a good reason not to apply the Cudgel to you!"

Zan merely gave a look to weasel, that said you didn't have to tell them that we don't know the way out at the moment.

Replying to Uthecar, "That works as well"

"Kull, if the negotiations don't go well you can use the cudgel."

Re: Combing Quesqueton

The two gnomes look both skeptical and angry, but the dwarf, perhaps heartened by Uthecar's words, said, "We'll go with ye, help as we might. That said, there's no debt here. Ultimately we didn't hurt yer ugly friend, so no harm, no foul. I'll not march with ye unless 'tis on fair terms. If that's not acceptable, we'll try to find our own way out. What say ye?"

Re: Combing Quesqueton

Uthecar nods his head.  "With due respect cousin, the terms only seem harsh because you do not fully understand the critical nature of your plight.

You are probably only at a 3rd of the strength you were when you started, and without aid, it is likely this place is your tomb.

Furthermore, your gnome has used his spell for the day making you even weaker than before we arrived.  In spite of your words, he has created a debt to us, because he made us use up one of our own spells to counter the one he cast when he lost his grit.

Without our help, you are dead men walking, or perhaps one of the undead, you just don't know it yet.

Tell you what, if it is acceptable to my companions, we will reconsider and give you a 10% share of the coin treasure discovered.  If the rumours are true that will still be a king's ransom you can divide amongst yourselves and retire on as you retell the tales of your exploits.  It will also not be a too great a penalty to us for saving your lives."

Bruno's early irritation at what he took as Uthecar's rudeness to Kullonar had abated when he realized that he had mistaken the warrior's words. His deal making on their behalf without consultation raise that ire anew, though.

Still arguing it out in public is not going to be useful so he bites his lip and stands ready watching how the Dwarf and Gnomes take things.

"Ten percent sounds fair...cousin," the dwarf said. Spitting into his palm, he holds out his hand to Uthecar and says, "I'm Bruknar, of the clan Forgehammer." He waits for the handshake of agreement as the two gnomes look on.

Uthecar likewise follows suit, spitting into his palm and shaking Bruknar's hand.  "10% of the coin, the deal is forged.  I'm Uthecar, the second named of the Hornskins."  Uthecar will go on to introduce the others inquiring after the gnomes names as well as seeing if they have any useful information in regards to the areas they have visited.

Bruknar points to the two gnomes, he names the fellow wearing leathers and short sword as Spirley Tinmeister, the other, the spellflinger as Widly Himhammer. Both doff form fitting caps with bright feathers, bow and say, "At your service."

Given time now to study the chamber as well, you find that it is 20x20, and seems to be an extra area for storage and such, though all that is in the room is rubble in the far corner. There seems to be nothing of value here.

OOC: party's move.

Re: Combing Quesqueton

Greetings have been offered, introductions have been made. At long last, it is time for the party to move along. Despite recent events and local confusion, the party is still hale and intact, with three more members adding to its ranks (and thinning out the share of coin a bit).

This room is quiet, sparse, though perhaps a haven unlooked for, or one you can retreat to, if you ever figure out where you are.

"Well, for now, I would say that we should make this our base point to explore from.  Anything in the way of things you have already encountered would prove most helpful."

Zan got out one of his books and made a crude map and asked the newcomers to provide what details that they possibly could.

Widly looks at the party. He's an ugly little shit, his face twisted into something between a grimace and a smile. "I gotsta learn some new spells," he said to the group. "Takes 'bout four, mebbe five 'ars, then I needs t'sleep for a spell. Think mebbe one'r'two yer friends might need a bit o'study too, no?"

Blinking owlish eyes, he pulls a peanut from a pouch at his side, breaks it open and hands it inside his cloak. You note a quick flash of grey fur, then gone.

As you all marvel as this strange little man, Widly looks about, his face suddenly crafty.

"'Tain't non amongst you a  Prestigitator, no?" he asks.
