OOC: Use your normal character for this scene

Delilah woke up feeling sore all over her body. There was a wall of heat coming from the left side of her body. Sparks showered along the floor as she lifted her head.

Delilah: You've Been Bad

Delilah groaned and winced. Everything burned and ached. She moved to raise her hand against the shower of sparks raining around her.

Hand!

Her hands were back! And her legs! And everything! Her body was back. The Bird was right. Or at least, she hoped so. But it all hurt so much to move. Delilah's hand mopped over her face to feel her nose and jaw. She looked around to find the source of the heat and the fiery sparks.

"You're back." A voice that sounded oddly child-like confirmed.

Delilah looked around. There were sparks showering everywhere. She was in some kind of industrial steel plant. Deep, hot pits of molten steel moved with an orange glow, the heat intense.

"... Yeah, so."

Delilah didn't really answer the sketchy girl. She didn't want anyone to judge her for a failed escape. Instead, she huddled on her knees and tried to ward off the sparks with both arms.

"Where are we? What is this place?"

She cast around worried glances. The pig or the clown might show up any moment.

Delilah: You've Been Bad

The heat was like a slap in the face after the cool, summer air outside. Acrid smoke stung at Delilah's eyes, nipped at her throat. The din in the narrow space was frightening. Bellows creaked and wheezed, hammers clanged on anvils sending up showers
of angry sparks, red hot metal hissed furiously in water barrels. There were children
everywhere, packed in tight together, sweating, and groaning, and coughing, hollow faces half lit by the orange glow from the forges all around.

The sketchy-girl's form was almost cartoon-like. Delilah had never seen anything like it. But then, it had been an awfully strange turn of events.

Her face was like paper. Almost two-dimensional. Around her, the air around the girl whirred in some kind of disturbed, aura.

"You're going to be in a lot of trouble." The girl said, leaning against a large pair of metallic pliers, and resting her two-dimensional paper arm on one of the handles. It flopped over and folded, the way paper might.

"You ran away. Master Hogwash is not going to be happy." She said, face unmoving, like a pencil sketch on paper. "Maybe if you'll go see him, he might take it hard on you in just the beginning. He's a hard master. I should know. I've been here the longest."

It was hard not to stare at Esther. The girl wasn't scary, but the way her arms bent and folded like crinkled paper was bizzare. Everything about her was angular and colorless. Like she was a stick person who popped off the page.

"What's he do to kids that run off?" Delilah asked slowly. Her voice was low and her eyes wide as saucers.

"He takes a piece." Esther leaned in and whispered, the words coming out and barely audible amid the din of metallic clanging. "I've seen it happen before." She nodded, head bobbing awkwardly and flopping around like she had no neck at all.

"People ask me why I stay here so long when I know the longer you stay, the more likely that it will go wrong. You change, you see?" She lifted one cartoon hand up and pointed to her face and body, the outlines of a dull drawing sketched on white paper.

Two-dimensional.

"This happened because I stayed and survived. If you don't get worked to death and you don't kill yourself, then you start to change. It takes time, but it happens. If you think I'm ugly or weird looking, there's a few working in the hearth that are worse off than me. Their minds have changed too."

"But you left and ran away. That means he's going to take a piece of you. He'll bite it or cut it off--if he let's you live."

Delilah: You've Been Bad

Delilah listened to Esther with a breathless dread. Without realizing it, she gripped her braids and tugged repeatedly. Flattened? Worked to death? Kill yourself? Eaten?

"No. No. I gotta get outta here. For real this time. I can't--" Her breathing grew shallow and rapid. She was stuck for a moment just shaking her head. It wasn't often that Delilah said I can't and it had her hung up.

There had to be a way out, but she just couldn't see it. Couldn't figure it out. "Where do I go to find...Master Hogwash?" She was afraid of saying the name too loudly. Like Bloody Mary, he might appear.

"Oh no." Esther said. "He eats the acorns. We just collect them. We get them for him."

"But I'll tell you more about that later."

She looked to both sides. It seemed that the conversation had gained a sudden attention as more and more kids began to gather around both Delilah and Esther.

The clanging on anvils and the angry hissing of hot metal in water had all stopped, as more kids--dirty faces and grease-smeared clothing--stopped what they were doing.

When Delilah finally noticed the quiet attention growing around her, she shrank back one step towards Esther. Then, she stiffened and pulled away. Just in case cartoon skin was catching.

"Take a picture. It'll last longer."

There were more children staring at her than she'd ever tried to intimidate before. There was no bite of bravado in her taunt.

"Why're you staring at me? Whatdya want?"

She wasn't sure how long it would take the pigman to eat his acorns, but she remembered that one kid he smacked down. If no one was working when he made the rounds, then what?

A murmur ran through the crowd of kids as they came closer to form a circle around Delilah. Esther let the shovel or instrument she was holding fall away and it clanged on to the floor.

"They're just getting ready for when Hogwash gets back to see what he does. They haven't seen anyone run away in a while and then come back. So some of them are probably curious to see what he might do to you."

"Maybe a few like Marty and Lula will probably try to hold you down and see if they can score brownie points when Hogwash comes."

"I was thinking of doing that...."
Esther confessed.

"I still might." she confirmed.

Those words appeared to make the kids back up slightly. All of them except for Esther.

"He's just going to take a piece of you. Remember that. He'll just take a piece. You'll come out on the other end of it. Just think of that when he does it. I've been around for over twenty years, and I've only seen him kill two kids that came back from running away and one was by accident."
She said, her voice somewhat strained and wavering between what sounded like an explanation to Delilah and urgent advice.

Then her tone shifted to focus on her own goals. "Oh Come on! What do you care if some of us get brownie points from Hogwash!? He's going to do what he does to you anyway." She pleaded with frustration, pawing at Delilah with a flimsy paper-arm with the clear hope that Delilah would allow herself to be held down by Esther.

"I got away from that creepy clown and his monster spiders. No way I'm standin' still to be caught by you. So get back!"

Besides, Esther looked like a stiff breeze could topple her. If she could hold someone down, Delilah didn't want to know how.

Delilah: You've Been Bad

Perhaps if this was a normal lot of kids on a foreign playground, they might have the advantage. Delilah was clearly outnumbered and this strange place wasn't anything close to what she might have called familiar.

Nevertheless, he gritted teeth and posture--like a dog snapping at an intruder--seemed to have its affect. The circle grew wider as the sorry crowd of exhausted and desperate faces backed off. One kid fell backwards, clearly afraid of Delilah, or at least intimidated by her harsh words. Instead of grabbing a hold of him and pushing him upright, the kids behind him moved out of the way, letting him fall to the ground, his head thwacking the stone floor with muffled 'thud.'

Esther took a step backwards. "He'll be here any moment!" She cried to Delilah.

That last sentence was enough to get the kids running all over the place. They tripped over each other as circle dissolved kids running in every direction like roaches when the kitchen light is turned on.

Delilah heard the sound of a heavy door opening somewhere in the dark recesses of the forge. There was a clopping of footsteps coming closer...

Delilah turned towards the sound of the door. Kids scattered and jostled around her and she was caught in the middle. She turned dumbly to Esther, even though she was a double-crosser.

Don't want to be cut up. Don't want to be eaten up. Don't want to be turned into a pig.

She knew what happened if she went out the door. There had to be another way. Somewhere to hide! She quickly looked around, then up.

Then there was the pool. Water. From a small hole in the wall, a stream of constant water was flowing meant to dip hot metal and cool it off, perhaps after hammering.

She wasn't sure if she'd gone down deep enough and she was too afraid to surface right now. She'd have to eventually. The water muted the noise of the sweatshop. Hogwash might be looming over the surface. Or not. No way to tell. Something brushed by in the dark. She opened her eyes and looked up.

Delilah was under the water now, which was deeper than it first appeared. Her movements were slow as she opened here eyes.

So far down in the pit the light from the forge became a soft, diffuse glow. Those once showering sparks couldn't penetrate the water which was murky and green. Delilah could see rocks that were now silhouettes in the dim. The light from above was dying quicker than the heat from a winter campfire. It was getting cold too, colder with each foot Delilah was below the water. With the increasing pressure Delilah began to feel like the water was thicker, like soup. She glance upward to the surface and felt her heart rate rise. Delilah had never been this deep before in water. Somewhere within, Delilah felt the competing desires to breath fresh air but also avoid being caught by the Pig.

As here eyes adjusted to the the dim light, Delilah could see skeletons. Small skeletons. A skeletal arm floated in front of her. A half-buried skull was on the floor at the bottom of this watery grave, a sheet of what looked like ashes.

The need to escape motivated Delilah as she swam back under. It was clear that the game couldn't last too long. That's when she saw it:

It was small hole in the side of the wall. It was opaque and without light. How far it went back into the deep recesses of this strange watery tank in the forge was unclear. Would it lead anywhere? Or would venturing forth towards the hole lead to watery death itself.

Delilah didn't know the answers to the these questions, but they raced through her mind as she saw the outside of the hole rusted and flaked with oxidized metal. It was just small enough for her to fit her body through if she wanted to, but it would be a tight fit all the same.

07:40, Today: Storyteller rolled 1 success using 5d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s ((6,5,3,8,4)).

The second kid was getting closer, a long trail of hair following her as she bore down on Delilah, arms pressed against her sides, feet paddling and propelling her forward.

The boy who had grabbed a hold of her did nothing. He just held on. Delilah could feel her lungs begin to burn for air. The mere activity of trying to kick, swim and fend off the other kid all at the same time was enough to make her lungs scream.

OOC: Delilah Rolls Stamina -1

If Delilah succeeds, then Delilah rolls Delilah Rolls Strength + Brawl - 3.

If Delilah fails, then all kids go up for a breath of air.

Delilah: You've Been Bad

Delilah squirmed like a fish on the line. Her thrashing slowed. Instead of trying to swim towards the crevice, she was weakly paddling up to the surface.

20:31, Today: Delilah Gray failed (no successes) using 1d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s ((7)).

"ARGGGHGHHH!" Delilah heard the Pig Monster growl. It reached down into the water and...

OOC: Delilah's Defense at 6 . Hogwash uses willpower for grapple. Dicepool is 8 - 6(defense) = 2.

20:53, Today: Evil Circus - Hogwash rolled 1 success using 2d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s ((1,10(+1))).

With one hand, it scooped her soaking body out of the water and draped her across its hunched back. Delilah's face smacked against the bony ridge of the Pig Monster's lower spine. Her world was suddenly upside-down as the Pig-Monster lurched forward carrying Delilah to an unknown destination like a sack of potatoes.

All around her the kids were murmuring. Some were yelling, some were laughing. Others were crying. They were like a pack of wolves that had gone into a frenzy.

OOC: Delilah can roll  Strength + Brawl - 4 to get free

OR

Strength + Brawl, -6 to 'turn the tables'

OR
Strength + Brawl, -6 to attack

Delilah: You've Been Bad

Delilah sputtered and coughed as she was swept out of the water. Hogwash knocked the wind out of her when he slung her over his hunched shoulder. Her long, wet hair flopped down and she twisted to see where she was heading. No use.

The racket of a hundred kids buzzed around her. Crying, jeering, loudly whispering to be heard over the din. Some screamed. Once the air stopped sizzling her lungs, she shrieked right along with them; kicking and windmilling her noodly arms as if she were still in the water.

"LEMME GO! LEMME GO RIGHT NOW!!"

She reached out for a grip on anything she passed --a tent pole, a table, even other kids' arms-- to wrench herself free.

Strength + Brawl -6 to 'turn the tables' = Chance Die

20:41, Today: Delilah Gray failed (no successes) using 1d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD, Chance Die system with a target of 10, rerolling 10s ((9)).

So close!

Delilah: You've Been Bad

From an upside-down vantage point, Delilah could see the kids trailing behind her hooting and yelling, dirty, emaciated bodies dressed up in ragged clothes covered in soot. She struggled and flailed her arms to no avail. And suddenly...

09:02, Today: Evil Circus - Hogwash rolled 2 successes using 3d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s ((8,4,9)).

Suddenly she was flipped upward by the brute strength of the beast, her world turning round and round until she felt something sharp penetrate first her skin, and then deeper into her back. A lancing pain shot up from between her shoulder blades and up through her throat.

Eyes wide with pain, Delilah realized that she was hanging on some kind of meat hook. All around her kids were yelling. There were hocks of beef hanging from hooks around here. Slabs of pink flesh mottled with white fat. One kid pushed one to the side to get a better view of Delilah, the slab of meat swinging back and forth.

Delilah: You've Been Bad

Delilah's screeching was cut off by the hook piercing through her body and the gout of blood coughed out through her neck. There was a brief, blank moment between confusion and realization. The pain was so intense that she couldn't hear or see or breathe. Then all sense flooded back in.

She swayed on the hook. She wanted to push away from the other slabs of dead meat, but hung just like a butchered pig. Every motion felt like it would rip her in half. Even crying. Sobbing jostled the tear through her back, but she could not stop.

Delilah couldn't get revenge on the clown or the pig. She couldn't save her friends or her family. She couldn't even save herself. And everyone in the tent knew it. The faces of all the other kids had gone blurry, but she knew they were still staring. They all knew that she failed at running away. Twice. She lost. She wasn't just bad. She was The Very Worst One. So Hogwash was going to slice her up.

Delilah: You've Been Bad

Do I have more than 2 Lethal in Damage? Feels like I ought to. I know that Delilah was chopped up pretty good in the last game. Then there was the hospital, but I didn't think she was completely healed up as her mom wanted to check her out early. I can't remember if I asked before. I'm going to check my old threads.

Delilah: You've Been Bad

What happened next was an out of body experience.

Delilah could hear the kids yelling, their strained voices worked up into a frenzy. She She felt the pain of the hook in her back and she could see for some reason, bags and bags of acorns stacked on top of one another near the walls of this confined room.

Every time she moved, the pain worsened.

"GRHAAARRRH!"
The pig monster yelled as it suddenly appeared in front of Delilah. It gnashed its teeth together and extended it hand out. Delilah could see the contours of its twisted knuckles as the hand got closer and closer to her face.

Delilah: You've Been Bad

Raspy gurgles bubbled up from Delilah's throat. She wanted to scream at all the kids to go away and stop looking at her. Tears seeped into the new wound opened on her neck, but the salty sting was a drop in the bucket. They wouldn't stop gawking and pointing. Delilah squirmed, but she couldn't turn herself away.

Hogwash was suddenly in front of them; open maw and yellowed tusks. She couldn't see his little harpies, but she knew they were still there whooping it up. The pig beast reached for her face and a miserable wail rose out of her. No words, but it meant I'm sorry.

Sorry for leaving Mark behind. And for calling Jimmy Archer an indian giver. And sorry for dumping a school milk into Hannah Hope's backpack that one time. And for hitting Sammy in the face with a rock. And for all the times she put sand in other girls' gym bags and leotards. And for all the mean things she said to Lilly. And extra sorry for all the times she yelled at her mom and dad and Susan. And for throwing that rock at the giant spider. If she hadn't done that, then John and Josh coulda gotten away. They all coulda gotten away. But mostly, she was sorry for not ever helping Roger once. He didn't have proper winter clothes. He must have been freezing on Bald Hill. If she were really his friend, she would have called off the snowball fight. And they all would've went home and stayed alive.

The birdkid was right. The clown came because she was a bad friend.

Delilah: You've Been Bad

These revaluations traveled through Delilah's mind like electricity, but before she could grasp the full weight of the implication of being a 'bad friend', it happened....

06:09, Today: Evil Circus - Hogwash rolled 1 success using 4d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s ((5,7,3,8)). +1 Damage to 'Gouge' technique

The hand came forward in one, swift motion and Delilah felt, just for an instant, the yellow, curled nails forcefully pushed into the area around her eye. The Pig Monster twisted its wrist and there was a loud, ripping sound that was accompanied by excruciating pain. An instinctual reaction to grab at her face was brushed aside by the monster's other hand.

It had ripped her eye out.

With casual grace, it tossed the eyeball onto a stack of acorns that had spilled out of one of the many bags and onto the floor.

Delilah could feel the energy drain out of her, and with it, the vision.

OOC: Delilah Gains Flaw: One Eye

One Eye: Your character is missing an eye. He has no real
depth perception, so all penalties for ranged attacks are doubled,
and even at short range, the character suffers a -2 penalty
to hit a target. In addition, running
through dense forest or a labyrinthine house is difficult,
since the character can’t judge the position of objects or walls
relative to himself. Any rolls that require judging depth, spatial
relations or distance incur a -3 penalty. This can include certain
Athletics rolls for riding bikes or skateboards

Delilah Chooses:

Delilah Rolls Wits + Composure - 3 to stay awake

Or

Delilah let's the darkness take her, passing out

Delilah's head rocked back, then lolled forward. She hung silently as blood dribbled down her cheek.

Pass out!

Did she lose her right eye or her left?
