Shawn, Delilah: The Egg Briar Patch...

Crunch...

Crunch...

Crunch...

That was the sound Tiffany made, chewing on a Payday candy bar as the kids made their way up a hill, following the cobblestone road. Ralph was careful not to stray off the road and he made sure that Bobby didn't either, holding Bobby's hand and guiding him uphill.

Penelope looked tired and worn. She had taken to picking at the skin on her right arm. Perhaps out of nervousness, or perhaps from something that had irritated her skin.

Reaching the top of the hill, the horizon opened up....Everywhere

As far as the eye could see, the valley below was covered with large, bright, brilliantly colored eggs in every direction sitting upon long, green grass. They were much, much bigger than the normal sized eggs that you got from a carton in the kitchen refrigerator. These eggs were the size of baby strollers.  Big enough to fit maybe one in a wheelbarrow, the eggs were angled in all different directions and of all different colors: yellow, pink, red, green, purple and even a few orange and blue ones.

The cobblestone path cut through the vast field of eggs and far off into the horizon.

"No way! That dragon was ugly! And these eggs are pretty." Even if they weren't dragon's eggs, Delilah didn't want to tangle with the chicken who could lay eggs this size.

Still, they were pretty.

The Egg looked solid. It felt as solid as a hard, marble orb. A few seconds after Delilah knocked on, there were a sound.

knock..knock..KNOCK KNOCK!

The knocking this time came from within the egg. It started slow and then built up to a panicked frenzy of knocking as if whatever was inside wanted to get out. But there were no cracks, no fissures. No sound that the solid exterior of the egg was breaking. The egg itself wasn't even moving or shaking, such was the weight and solidness of the large, rock-like oval.

The knock on the shell surprised Delilah. She didn't want to be right beside it when it hatched. But first, she had to move Penelope out of the way. Stupid Penny.

"Hang on."

Delilah absently swatted Penelope's hand away. She crouched and took a look (and a few pokes) at her ankle. She'd seen a lot of injuries from failed vaults and tumbles. Had a few herself.

"Yeah, that's bad. If you were a horse, you'd probably be shot." With a sigh, she stood up and helped Penelope to her feet. She jerked the girl up, heedless of her pain, but stayed on the proper side to help her walk.

"Hey, Tiff! Get over here!" Maybe giving her something to do, like limp around with Penny would stop her from crying.

"Wherever we go next, it's gotta be somewhere easy to walk because we've got two babies and a gimp."

Tiffany walked down and helped Penelope up.

Soon, all of the kids were walking down that straight path.

The sun was shining along the bright colored eggs everywhere. Huge, bright yellow, pink, red, blue, green orange and purple. The stuck out like big Easter eggs along the tall grass beads of newly dried rain drops falling along their glistening sides, even though it had stopped raining.

And just as soon, every kid could now hear exactly what it was, or what it might be. Or what they might be.

Collective voices of whispers traveled along the wind. They spoke in a discordant harmony both with and against each other:

"Don't do it"

"Run"

"Stay. Stay With Us"

"Watch Out."

"It's Coming"

Delilah was on the brink of tears. Not sappy, baby tears like Tiffany's. These were the anguished tears of defeat that threatened to spill over her stubborn, hard-nosed face. Not only was she wrong about the egg patch being a good idea, but everyone knew it. She'd have to admit that she was wrong and wasted time that could have been spent getting to the mountain.

But she could ignore it for one minute longer and boss Tiffany around a bit.

"Get on that side! And get her arm and your arm over-- no, the other way!" She could shout, but it didn't make the ghostly voices any quieter.

With Penelope on her feet, they could all limp towards the mountain.

He just held on tight to Ralph and Bobby and kept pulling them along, looking around for any sign of danger. The voices were annoying, but they hadn't done anything yet, right? The ankle was obviously Penny's fault.

It was true. If it was an earthquake it would be one that Shawn had never quite felt before. Earthquakes made the whole ground shake violently. This felt more like someone dropping or hammering the earth every few seconds. Delilah knew this as well, even though, she never experienced it in her 'real' memories that seemed ever more out of place, outside of LA.

...the hammering noise got louder still as if it was getting closer, the earth shaking more violently.

The noise seemed to be coming closer and the ground shook like and earthquake.

Boom....

Boom....

Boom....

The earth underneath everyone's feet was moving and the noise was like extended thunder, only worse because the vibrations seemed to be coming from everywhere. Then, like a switch that had been flicked, everyone started to move to grab a hold of something. Bobby clutched his arm around a large pink egg. Ralph clutched onto Shawn. Penelope leaned her back against a green egg. Pebbles on the ground were hopping around like they had a mind of their own.

Boom....

Boom....

Boom....

Two, pink, fuzzy ears the size of long corn stalks could be seen emerging from the horizon. It was some kind of Rabbit. With each hop, the ground shook. It wasn't just any Rabbit. This Rabbit was at least sixteen feet tall and as it got closer, terrifying details of its body and shape came into view. It's ears curved off to each side in comical arcs, fuzzy, pink fur covering all of its body. It seemed to not have a nose or a snout. The nostrils were located at the top of it's head instead of in between its beady, red eyes. The eyes themselves were surrounded by skeletal cheekbones that made the skin tight, threatening almost to poke out. It's mouth was elongated and two, large buck teeth protruded outward, giving it a somewhat stupid, predatory look.

The pink monstrosity was chewing the at the air, cutting against its red tongue with its sharp incisors at front. Then suddenly, reacting to the sound of the kids, it stood on its hind legs. Then it thumped a warning on the ground with its long hind foot

Boom....

Boom....

Boom....

Then it started to charge, or rather, hop furiously towards the kids.

He tried to keep quiet and judge if the rabbit was heading towards them. Certainly, running wasn't going to be an option; it'd be trying to outpace a massive creature while the earth shook underneath them and they were sprayed by egg shrapnel. Shawn was certain their only hope for salvation was that the rabbit's senses were limited, or that against all odds, somehow it was friendly.

At that point, as it was getting closer, Delilah and Shawn noticed a large, trailing extremity that dragged along the ground. Shawn, Delilah: The Egg Briar Patch...

Shawn paused, and then guiltily shook his head 'no'. Even if they went back to save her, he had no way of doing anything about it, not without just swapping one of them out for Tiffany.

Shawn, Delilah: The Egg Briar Patch...

It wasn't a dragon, but it was something terrible. Shawn was right all along.

Delilah stood stock still. Frozen with fear at the sound of Tiffany's shrieks. It was just like before. When the spiders got Josh. And when the clown got Roger. And when the dragon took Bradford away.

Tears rolled down her cheeks. She balled up her fists, wiped her eyes and silently counted down from ten.

Going for an attack!

Shawn, Delilah: The Egg Briar Patch...

The Pink Monstrosity, as much as Delilah's brain was able to conceptualize a giant rabbit, wasn't currently focused on Delilah, as much as it was on the sprawled out body of Tiffany.

Tiffany hadn't gotten up since her back was slammed against that egg. She managed to lift her head up, screaming. Her face was a mess. It her left eye was closed, the right side of her face was sagging, looking like it had suffered a tremendous blow, probably the result of falling flat on her face. It was puffy and smudged with wet mud from the underneath the grass. Her forehead on the left side was covered in blood that was pouring down in rivulets down that side of her face.

The Rabbit simply...

OOC: 14:59, Today: The Pink Monstrosity rolled 6 successes using 12d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s ((4,5,2,5,4,9,9,2,10(+9),2,10(+10,1),3)).

...scooped up Tiffany with one large paw, grabbing at her and dangled her by one leg above its head, as if ready to drop her down into its mouth or take a bite out of her the way some kid might eat a piece of candy.

She started out slow, sneaking. But that was never how she mounted anything. Delilah broke into a sprint. The blood coursing in head louder than Tiffany's screams.

Shawn, Delilah: The Egg Briar Patch...

There was a surge of adrenaline as Delilah lunged herself onto the back of the Pink Monstrosity. The Giant Rabbit didn't drop Tiffany because of the impact of Delilah's jump, but rather out of new interest in Delilah on his back. Tiffany fell from the sky, somehow knocking against the case that held Mr. Clayton.

The two tumbled along the wet grass, stopping at a large, yellow egg where Tiffany came to a halt. The black case rammed into her forehead, smacking the back of her head into the egg, blood running down one side of her face in a trickle.

The roar of the beast struck Delilah's ears like a wall of pain.

It fumbled with its hands at its back, trying to turn the tables on her and grab her.

22:54, Today: The Pink Monstrosity failed (no successes) using 10d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s ((6,7,5,5,3,5,7,1,7,5)).

Delilah felt its meaty paws grabbing it at her, but the beast was too clumsy to close its paws around her.

OOC: Strength + Brawl, minus the opponent’s Defense (2), if Delilah chooses to attack the Pink Monstrosity

Today: Delilah Gray rolled 1 success using 1d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD, Chance Die system with a target of 10, rerolling 10s ((10(+8))).

Delilah grimmaced, biting her lip at the evil rabbit's roar. Blood trickled from her mouth and stained her teeth. She screamed back. A high, feral cry.

She wrenched the floppy ears back and kicked her heels in like the champion rider of satan's rodeo.

The beast roared and started to hop, its hind legs knocking over eggs as it trampled through the Briar patch, yellow, green and purple ovals bowling over in every direction. Delilah had to fight to hold on.

Delilah began to panic as the monster twisted and bucked. Then it hopped. She scrambled to tighten her grip, but the beast was shaking her off.

Shawn, Delilah: The Egg Briar Patch...

Delilah slid off the Monster's back, thick matted fur brushing against the back of her thighs as the feeling of weightlessness rose in her stomach. Then, just as quickly, the ground came up and met her with shocking suddenness.

Her mouth snapped shut as as her knees pressed against the earth. When she looked up, the Monster had turned around and was towering over her.

Falling was always the worst feeling. Delilah lost and knew immediately what was coming next. Terrible jaws with massive blunt teeth loomed overhead.

"I hate you!"

Fists clenched, she charged at the beast. Just like Josh and John did. Felt like a lifetime ago. If only she'd fought with them back then instead of running away.

Delilah surged ahead, blind with rage. Rage for the clown, for the hogman, for every thing and every one who brought the circumstances together to ruin what should have been a perfect life.

Delilah's fists sunk into the Pink Monstrosity's stomach with a thud.

One...

Two...

Three punches.

The beast leaned its head back as Delilah looked up.

19:33, Today: Storyteller, on behalf of The Pink Monstrosity, rolled 1 success using 4d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s ((8,2,4,7)).

It lunged its head down with the force of some animal-like hammer, driving its front teeth into the top of Delilah's head.

OOC: Delilah takes 1 +4 = 5 lethal damage. 5 is greater than Delilah's Stamina. Delilah rolls Resolve. If the roll is successful than she is can take any action. If unsuccessful then she is 'Stunned' and cannot take any action for one turn

The Giant rabbit drove its teeth down again, this time into Delilah's skull. Delilah emitted a choked, gurgling cry, her arms growing slack, the whites of her eyes rolling back into her head as she fell onto her knees.

Then it pulled back, tilting its head back up to the sky, and then coming down with all the speed of a hammer on an anvil. Delilah's head split apart, a gout of blood spraying across the eggs and spattering across Tiffany's arms.

As Delilah's body fell to the side, Tiffany reached out and grabbed the case that held Mr. Clayton. She slank behind a yellow egg, her terrified body shaking as she hid in fear from the large rabbit that has just killed Delilah.
