Ron: Cast Out to The Evil Circus

Ron moved past the whirring merry-go-round as he sneaked about. He was nobody's fool
when it came to a spot of sneaking. Ron and Bradford been known for it on the farm. Ron had lost count of the number of kids he'd come up behind unbeknownst to them during a game of hide and seek.

But this was no game. Ron looked up at the towering spires of the circus tents.

"Let's move quietly." Bradford whispered.

OOC: Ron Rolls Stealth + Dexterity with the following results

Ron: Cast Out to The Evil Circus

Ron sneaked closer to the circus, trying to be as silent as possible, but the events of the past couple of hours...days...and his worries about Dawn's safety played havoc with his concentration.  As he ducked behind a pile of old shipping pallets, he brushed against one and sent it crashing to the ground.  Turning to Bradford he hissed, keeping his voice as low as possible, "See if you can find the tent and find us a way to get to Dawn and get home.  If they see me, I'll lead them away on a chase!"

"OK." Bradford said, slinking off behind a bush with a worried face.

And no sooner did he say that then bright lights on the tops of the tents came alive.

Big bright spotlights blinded the area around Ron. Accordion music began to blare out of the old tent and Ron thought he heard the growl of exotic animals.
Then there was a loud, static-voice on a megaphone:

"Everybody get your ticket! It's almost time to set up this freak show, watch me unwind
for the next ninety minutes we'll be having the time of our lives!"

"The ringmaster's night gets lonely after the big top comes down! We all go from being somebody to just another clown!"

"So step right up and get that nose clipped off!"

Ron: Cast Out to The Evil Circus

Ron waited and watched the circus closely.  He'd been spotted, but Bradford hadn't.  Maybe, if they were lucky, the circus would be distracted enough to go after him and Bradford would be able to get to the fortune teller's tent and find a way to get them together and home.

Ron: Cast Out to The Evil Circus

A Clown appeared in the walkway twenty paces away from Ron. It was riding a unicycle and juggling colored balls. Its floppy shoes bent slightly with each push of the pedals, bald pate reflecting off of the glimmering lights.

"Whahaahhahaha!" It exuberant with a loud bombastic voice.  "We're gonna have fun now! I do not trust you on a boat, I do not trust you on a goat. I do not trust you here. I do not trust you there. I do not trust you anywhere!" It rhymed.

Ron tries to remain out of the clown's line of sight, but a sharp intake of breath and snapping twig beneath his feet likely give him away.

<Blue>"What do we have here?"
The Clown said, juggling a few different colored balls in the air and moving the unicycle forward. It creaked with each revolution of the wheel and Ron could see there were what looked like bandaids sporadically placed on the old, black tire.

"Yippi! Yippi!" The Clown rejoiced in a dopey, joyful tone. "A yay! My very own friend! I'm going to hug you and squeeze you and love you all over!" He cried out, voice cracking as he advanced upon Ron.

The clown followed Ron, the bicycle moving forward with jolt and giggling mirth. Ron could hear the wheel of the unicycle spinning, could feel the dirt from its old tire spinning forward, kicking up debris on the back of his legs.

And that's when it happened.

It felt like getting pegged in the back of the head with a dodge ball at gym class only much harder. The ball, or whatever it was that Ron was hit with, exploded against his hair and blue liquid flew in every direction. It hit him with so much force that his teeth clamped down, biting his tongue.

Ron staggered forward. He could hear the unicycle behind him, creaking forward, a small high-pitched chuckle coming out of the clown's mouth.

Ron ignored the pain and pushed forward, breath heaving through his mouth as his feet propelled him towards the treeline. Behind him, he could hear the creaking wheel, the Clown's maniacal voice shrieking through the rain as came upon Ron.

What’s the difference between a well dressed Clown on a unicycle and a poorly dressed boy running away? Attire!

Ron was almost there. Almost at the forest. And then the Clown came upon him. He could see it's leering grin as it pulled up alongside him, the knobby knees protruding outward, head stretching out, sticking-out towards Ron's own face, though the unicycle remained behind Ron.

"That's it! Run! Run!" The Clown howled. Then it wound up its arm and...

Ron hoped that Bradford and Dawn would find a way out of this and back to the relative safety of the cabin as he staggered into the edge of the forest.  He saw a low-hanging branch and ducked...stumbled really...under it, hoping that the clown would be knocked off of his feet.

Ron: Cast Out to The Evil Circus

Ron heard the sound of a loud tearing as he ducked underneath the branch. White hot pain lanced down in between his shoulder blades as his shirt tore open, the branch having scraped down his back. He could feel the tension of the branch give way as it snapped backwards. Seconds later, as Ron was scurrying on his knees to get away, he heard a loud 'thwack' noise.

Looking over his shoulder, he saw the Clown falling backwards, away in mid air. The unicycle carried on, perfectly balanced. It moved forward, riderless into the forest for a half a dozen feet before it collapsed, falling to the side after hitting a large rock.

Ron's lungs burned. There was a heavy, burning feeling with each exhale. He glanced behind him, noticing for the first time that his head was wet with warm blood.

That's when he saw it.

The Clown was getting up to his feet. He slapped the side of his head with one open-palm as if trying to clear water out of his ear. On one knee he placed a forearm and then rose to his feet. Then he started to move forward towards Ron.

Ron: Cast Out to The Evil Circus

Ron stumbled forth, the Clown moving along behind him. He had gotten a head start (2 successes in foot race) as the Clown rallied itself, picking itself up after falling off the unicycle.

Ron was searching for something, anything. But all he found was small, short iron tracks working their way through the shrubs and taking a precipitous plunge towards the edge of the hill.

Just when it looked like all hope was lost, he heard the tell-tale sign of a train. Only it sounded small, miniature. It rounded the area of the forest in a looping turn and headed towards the hill, cutting off Ron's path and heading towards the plunge.

OOC: Ron Chooses

Rolls Dexterity + Stamina -1 (Health/foot race to get to train) and Dexterity + Athletics -1 (Health/Jump on train)

The foot race to the train is only contested once

OR

Ron Rolls Contsted roll of Dexterity + Stamina -1 (Health) vs. Clown to reach hill and roll down.

The foot race to the hill must be contested twice.

Ron: Cast Out to The Evil Circus

Ron climbed onto the train car and crammed himself through the small window. He rolled over onto his back but the wagon was too small and he ended up in a cramped, twisted position. Sweat dripped down the side of his face, and his breath pounded in his own ear. He winced at the pain in his shoulder and head.

Meanwhile, the children's train--because that's what it was--let out a jaunty little tune not unlike that of a merry-go-round carousel. Though the tune was different than that of what he heard before, the penny whistles still sounded loud and full of mirth.

Billowing steam clouds that smelled of bubble gum wafted through the air from the locomotive up ahead as Ron kept his head down low, the smell drifting over the cabin of the crammed wagon car, which could only fit one person.
