"Shawn!!!!!!" It was Dad's voice from downstairs and he sounded angry.

Who was Shawn? Where was he? Where was this place? It all seemed unfamiliar. The pieces of the waking world had yet to fully materialize as half of Shawn's mind was still asleep, grasping at whatever dream he had or was having as he heard Dad's voice.

Shawn looked around, and then when that didn't work, opened his eyes and then looking around. He couldn't remember where or when he was, or what he was doing. All he knew was that Dad sounded mad.

One moment Shawn was sitting there, Trying to gather his bearings. What would happen next could not be predicted. Dad came up the stairs and into Shawns room yelling. He was saying something about Junior. Something about something that Shawn had done. When he came into the room, he tripped slightly on the rug, and his elbow slid into The end table sending the lamp crashing to the floor, shards of light bulb glass showering the GI Joes.

And the next thing Shawn knew, he had been whisked away. Either dad had brought him downstairs or he had gone down voluntarily. The front door was wide open. Standing there was a woman about dad‘s age. Junior was holding the woman’s hand. He looked up at Shawn briefly, And then he looked back down again. The look seemed to say “I’m sorry.”

The woman had a fierce scowl On her face. It was directed at Shawn.

Shawn rubbed his eyes and tried to gather himself in front of Junior and the woman, trying to act like he always did in front of adult guests; polite, deferential, and unlikely to cause trouble. Though from how the woman was acting, it seemed like he was in for an uphill climb on that one.

"Did you do this?" Dad asked Shawn and he pointed at Junior's beaten face.

"No, he didn't...it..." Junior said, but his voice was cut off by the lash of a 'shush!' sound that his Mom gave him.

Dad looked confused for a second and then focused his gaze back at Shawn.

Junior had been standing a little behind his mom, so when Shawn saw his face, he tried to look surprised and horrified. “Oh my gosh! Junior, are you okay? Does it hurt?”

0 Successes: A total failure. Noon is convinced by Shawns reaction And the blames shifts squarely over to him for hurting Junior.

1-3 Successes: Shawn Narrowly escaped getting claimed. Everyone is convinced that Shawn didn’t do it, But Dad suspects that something is amiss even if he doesn’t know what it is.

4+ Successes: It’s not exactly clear how Junior managed to smash his face again something, But when you’re not careful that’s what happens. It’s all juniors fault, this whole thing was a big misunderstanding

Shawns reaction prompted a discussion between Junior, Shawns Dad and Juniors Mom. The conversation lasted but a few minutes. Afterwards, Junior said: “Told you it wasn’t him.” Shawn watched as Junior’s Mom apologized for the disturbing Shawn’s Dad. Then she said goodbye and walked back down the driveway, scolding Junior for not being ‘careful’ enough and how going to the hospital was ‘expensive’ and how Whitney Houston’s song The Children Are Our Future was really about Junior.

Dad closed the door, irritated at the interruption and the accusations. It wasn’t clear if he was annoyed at the idea that Shawn had been accused or that His son had been accused and therefore that reflected poorly on him.

“Don’t you have somewhere to be?”  Dad snapped at Shawn. “Go outside or something. Anything but seeing you in that room all day. It’s not normal. You don’t want to grow up like a gag do you? That’s what happens to kids that play with puppets all day. It’s a faggot thing to do and I’ll not have my son get into that. Puppets! Of all things..” Dad grumbled

Shawn wasn't exactly sure what some of the stuff his Dad was calling him meant, but he knew it was bad. It was so unfair, it was like he was mad that Shawn hadn't hit Junior or something. Still, he felt ashamed that his Dad thought he was being bad, and he let it show on his face so his Dad would think he was taking whatever lesson this was to heart. "I'll go play outside - I'm sorry, Dad..."
