Busy kids strode the hall once the period bell rang. Girls gossiped by the nearby gymnasium doors. The render on the schools walls was tired and grimy. A few boys leaned against the lockers giving the odd passerby frowns and disparing looks.

Shawn turned his back to open his locker.

"Hey, your Shawn right?" Shawn was putting his books into the locker in between periods when he heard the voice behind him.

Shawn set his books down in his locker before he turned around to look at who was speaking. "Yes, that's me." He tried to keep his tone friendly and bright.

"Holy shit! It's really you." The redheaded kid said. Shawn really hadn't heard a kid talk like that, especially with that language. "You're the kid from the shows and on TV and stuff. Holy shit-balls! It's totally you! That means you're cool, right from the get-go." He observed, smiling.

"I'm Eddy. Eddy Hughs."

"Oh, nice to meet you Eddy!" Almost automatically Shawn tried to mirror Eddy's energy and gave his a friendly smile. "I mean, I'm not that cool, really. But it's awesome that you watched my shows."

Reacting to being recognised was a tough needle to thread - people did think being on TV was cool, so it'd be rude to just dismiss that by diminishing it. But if you acted too cool about it, it could come off as condescending.

"That's just it." Eddy said. "You are cool. Just being in a movie makes you cool." He informed Shawn. An instructional voice. A voice of a kid eager to impart knowledge, but not in an arrogant way.

"There's a lot of kids in this school that do movies and commercials. But you're in cool movies. Ones that kids actually like to watch. Like The Adventures of Kip and Shep and the TV show My Secret Kid Identity." He said to Shawn giving examples. Shawn had been in both of those projects, but it had been a while by his Mom's count. Coming up on a year since he had a big part. And the pressure was building.
