Shawn: Grandpa is Getting Senile
Shawn sat in the passenger seat of the car as Mom drove down the road a broad smile on her face. There was a light, airiness about the car. The sun was shining, the wide-open road was welcoming and for the first time in a while, Shawn felt that the constant, weighty press of Mom's expectations had been fulfilled--if just for this short car ride.
Getting the lead villain part in Kid Knight was something Mom was clearly proud about, and Shawn could tell that she was taking this moment of silence to enjoy all of Shawn's hard work and accomplishment, savoring the moment as if it was something that she had, in fact, herself done. And hadn't she? Was it not Mom that had pushed Shawn? Did she not encourage and sometimes press him to live up to the highest of expectations?
As these questions circulated in Shawn's mind, Mom would occasionally glance over at him with a knowing, proud smile. "You know what? We ought to see Grandpa! Stop by the hospital and tell him the good news." she suggested, already turning the car in that direction, eager to spread the word far and wide, boast of Shawn's big day.
