* Naomi's Memory: I Don't Approve

Naomi was reading a book in her room about science and the Universe.

There's something very mathematical about our Universe, and that the more carefully we look, the more math we seem to find. So what do we make of all these hints of mathematics in our physical world? "

"Naomi!" Mom's voice called out, snapping Naomi's concentration. "Telephone! Pick it up in our room upstairs!"

* Naomi's Memory: I Don't Approve

Naomi was happily reading the book in her room. She loved books! They were always fun for her. No matter what they were about. They were especially fun with her special memory. It meant that when she read a few pages, she could remember them really well! When she read a book it was like all of its pages were with her forever. She loved reading, although school was sometimes boring for her. They moved too slow and people forgot things right after they were taught them!  So that was annoying. But when she was just reading on her own, she could read whatever she wanted, whenever. Right now she was reading about science and the universe. It was really interesting! There was mathematics and science everywhere! If she learned math good, she could learn about the whole universe! It was weird and hard to think about, but also interesting! She frowned a little bit when she was suddenly interrupted by her parents. She was reading! Weren't parents always telling their children to read? Why were they stopping her now?

Either way she sighed. She couldn't say no to mom. She walked over to mom's room, her head hung and feeling a bit dejected. She would pick up the phone when she got there. Mom asked her too after all.

* Naomi's Memory: I Don't Approve

"Hey Kiddo! It's your Cousin Jenny, what's poppin?"

Cousin Jenny. Or, 'Wild Child' as Mom and Dad called her. Dad, and particularly Mom, didn't like Jenny. It was mostly because she ran inside the house instead of walked. When they were both younger and Jenny would stay over, she would cover her head with a blanket and then say goodnight, and Mom would have to ask several times just to get that. She always got the last word in and most adults quickly lost patience with her.

Oh no. It was cousin Jenny. The famed (more like infamous) 'wild child'. Naomi didn't get along with her too great. She was a good girl, and according to her parents, Jenny was a bad girl. She was always running and wouldn't go to bed on time! Didn't she understood that going to bed on time was important for growing up right? And for remembering things well. And she was always mean and rude to adults! You weren't supposed to be mean and rude to adults! They were grown ups! She annoyed Naomi sometimes, even if she didn't hate her or anything like mom and even dad sometimes did. She sighed a little bit as she picked up the phone. "Right...what's going on?" She asked before remembering it was polite to answer the question first. "Ah yes, I was just reading a very interesting book! It was on math and the universe."

"Listen" Jenny said, her voice conspiratorial. "Want to hang out. I have a new, fun game to play."

Naomi tilted her head in a bit of curiosity, and a bit of worry. What did she want? It might have been scary. Jenny liked to play all sorts of weird games. Bad games. Bad games for bad girls. But that being said, she also had some really interesting games, like when they went to the junkyard and Naomi was able to find all sorts of cool things there. So she was not ready to completely shut down the girl. But she might have to make it more conditional. She nodded a little bit. "Um, maybe. What kind of game?" She asked, figuring it would be better this way. And this way if she didn't like it she could go back to reading her book! And that would just make mom happier with her anyway.

"It's a game I like to call blind man. It goes like this: The first part, one of us puts on a blind fold. And you have to walk from the living room to the kitchen. If you bump into something then it's someone else's turn. So you really have to remember where everything is before you even put on the blind fold."

Naomi almost fell back in a little bit of shock. That was positively normal! Still, she giggled a little bit. "Right...I think I can do that actually! If I close my eyes and think a little bit I can see what was there even with them closed!" She said with a bit of a smile, her ego swelling as she remembered her gifts. They certainly had their advantages! Even when they had their bad parts too. She shuddered a little bit as she tried to think more. "That actually might be kinda fun!" She admitted. She loved puzzles and those sorts of games! They were the kind that she was good at after all!

"Come on over then!" Jenny said. "It's gonna be fun. And then we can have hot coco. My Mom gets home around five today. If you ride your bike over, we can play for a bit and then you can have dinner over here."

It was a common enough routine and Naomi's Mom encouraged her to be with family, even if she thought Jenny was on the wild side.

Naomi nodded a little bit. "Alright. I guess I can come over." She said. She wanted to continue reading her book if she was going to be honest....but for the moment maybe playing a game with Jenny would be fun anyway. Besides, games with Jenny tended to be interesting one way or another, although she always wished that the girl was a bit nicer and less wild. It was important to be a good girl after all. She hung up the phone and walked over towards her mother. "Hey mom! I'll be heading over to Cousin Jenny's alright?" She said with a smile as she went to go ready her backpack. Obviously she couldn't put her toolkit in there, mom and dad had reminded her not to, but she could at least bring a few books with her in case she had to sit on the toilet or something. She nodded to her mom and, if nothing else happened, figured she might as well bike over there.

After riding her bike over to Jenny's house, she was immediately invited in.

"Here, but this on!" Jenny said, handing Naomi a blindfold. "Wait! No, not yet. Wait! Do you want to go first or should I? Oh man, this is gonna be so much fun."

"Make sure you look around first. You've got to get from the kitchen to the living room."

Naomi nodded a little bit, tilting her head for a moment. Jenny certainly seemed very excited about this! Maybe a little too excited. It was kind of strange. Didn't she usuallly like bad games instead of good ones? This one didn't seem very bad. Maybe it was bad since you could easily break things? But that didn't seem wild or crazy enough. Either way she nodded as she went to walk around the room, taking in the surroundings as best she could. She had a good sense of direction, and a good memory. This would be a piece of cake! She took careful stock of her surroundings, looking closely to memorize the different bits of terrain and obstacles. "Right. I think I got it..." She said confidently.

The ants collectively gathered the information: The distance between the living room and the kitchen. The glassware that was above the fireplace on the mantle. The coffee table with the dried flower bouquet in the middle of it. Then there was the larch hutch, with all of its china on the inside of it.

"OK."
Jenny said, putting the blindfold over Naomi and getting ready to get the game started.

"Now you just gotta walk over there. I'll be in the room in front to make sure that you don't fall on anything, hee, hee."
