Delilah: Running Wild!

Oink, Oink--Sniff, sniff--Shuffle... Oink, Oink--Sniff, sniff--Shuffle...Oink, Oink--Sniff, sniff--Shuffle...

That was the rhythm of Delilah's new walk. She shimmied down the slope of the hill that the Hospital was on, and managed to get onto the side walk of the main road. A car passed, headlights illuminated Delilah in her pig form and the car honked its horn.

The night was hot but not humid. A summer day ripe for staying out past bed time by the looks of it. Delilah....

Delilah: Running Wild!

21:39, Today: Delilah - Pig Form failed (no successes) using 6d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s ((4,4,7,7,3,4)).

Delilah was uncomfortably hot. She angled her head, looking up to the sky as best she could. She had to squint her beady eyes against the oncoming headlights. She turned away, but that did nothing to save her from the sensory onslaught of the passing car. The engine was powerful to her tender, floppy ears. And she was just the right height to breathe in the choking exhaust. There was something else in the air, but she couldn't tell what. Her snout hovered up all the ground odors along with any scents on the breeze. She couldn't put a name to them all.

Delilah: Running Wild!

Cars passed by. One by one. Delilah had never noticed how much noise they made or how the tires spun so dangerously and fast, hurried passengers off to important destinations.

Behind her, Delilah could hear commotion of some kind. People running. People shouting. It was coming from the hospital no doubt. She could cross the street and disappear into the underbrush of the forest across the road, or follow the road--uphill or down--to an unknown destination.

Delilah: Running Wild!

Delilah trotted away from the road. Cars were too big and so scary. She thought she'd be run over any second. Her head swam from the noise and exhaust. It was hard to see the sky, but she had a clear view of the ground. Where had all the snow gone? And why was it so hot?

The ruckus at the hospital drew her attention. She looked back. It wasn't too late to go back, but then what? Mark might be there, but he'd probably be a piglet, too.

Delilah looked up and down the road. From her new height, it was very hard to get her bearings. She stayed near the street. If she made it home, then somehow it would make things right.

Downhill along the road.

Delilah: Running Wild!

Delilah snorted her way downhill, short, stubby legs moving quickly, hooves padding the concrete sidewalk. A light drizzle began to fall, drops of rain hitting the coarse hairs on her back, legs and ears.

Nestled along the river while heading downhill, Delilah marched forth. Soon, she spotted the town square, its downtown bright lights and all that it offered: people dining outside, the main street fountain, shopping at boutiques filled with antiques, books and home decor.

Few took notice of a little pig scurrying into the square on a summer night. Those that shouted 'awwwww' in a manner suggesting that Delilah was welcome. One kid said 'look mommy!' and pointed at Delilah.

As she approached the fountain however, a dog pulled away from its masters leash and began to run towards her.

Delilah: Running Wild!

Though she had twice as many legs, the walk to the town square was longer than ever. Once her hooves clicked against the familiar pavement, she quickened her steps. The fountain was ahead and she was dying for a good drink. Catching rain on her tongue was too hard with her new face. Plus, it was only a sprinkle.

A few people cooed and commented as she passed. And that was strange. Delilah couldn't think of a time when so many people were just happy to see her. Especially when she wasn't competing.

The attention distracted her. She found herself grunting and running from a dog.

GRNK! ONK! SKREEE!

She bolted towards a shop, looking to hide behind something, or someone, larger than the mutt.

The dog came on fast, and suddenly it was a chase. Delilah found herself running in between legs and under tables, through the outside dining area.

The dog ran, following Delilah under a table, and disrupting everyone's dinner at the patio in pursuit of Delilah. Delilah turned around in time to see it chasing her on the grass

"Piggy!" Some kid said in front of Delilah. She squatted down on her knees with open arms, clearly hoping that Delilah would run into them. "I help Piggy!" She yelled, beckoning Delilah to run into her arms.

Delilah: Running Wild!

The pavement under her feet gave way to grass. Delilah heard the dog behind her and a small voice in front. Her tunnel vision narrowed on some kid in the grass. Delilah barreled towards her. If the kid couldn't pick her up and actually help, then Delilah could knock her down and into the dog's path.

"Piggy!" The girl said. "Oh Piggy!" She swept Delilah up and placed her in her arms, cradling her as Delilah's hooves still kicked in the air.

The dog kept barking and the girl shouted at it. "Shush you!"

Then she began to stroke Delilah's coarse head with one small hand. "Piggy, you're my new Piggy." She said softly.

Delilah screeched and squirmed. Her eyes rolled until the whites showed. She tried to twist enough to see the dog and whether or not it would bite the kid; whether or not she'd need to keep running.

The dog settled into a distance about 5 feet away, letting out periodic barks of disapproval in a child-like tantrum. But it was kept at bay, perhaps by the idea that a human was somehow now involved. Still, its barks remained pointed and fierce, cutting through the air.

"Piggy.."
The girl said, stroking Delilah's head with gentle caresses. "Piggy safe now. I go to hold you and love you and be with you and bring you home."

Delilah: Running Wild!

Delilah stopped squirming in the little girl's arms, but she was far from still. She panted for air. Her sides rose and fell quickly while her heart hammered away at her chest.

Stupid dog. A little squash-faced thing. If she were big enough, she'd kick it for chasing her.

The little girl's hand smoothed over her head. Delilah jerked her head twice. The girl wouldn't stop with her baby doll petting. Delilah narrowed her eyes and her snout quivered.

Delilah: Running Wild!

Delilah's snorts and narrowed eyes appeared to be interpreted by the girl as some kind of gesture of affection or approval. "Piggy." The girl said, increasing her gentle strokes on Delilah's head and snout.

She hooked a finger under Delilah's lip and tugged it upward, revealing the canine and crooked row of teeth that felt so awkward and foreign to Delilah. "Piggy's got cute teeth." She announced.

"I'm gonna take Piggy home. I take Piggy home now." She stated, perhaps more to herself than Delilah.

grunk hrk hrk ree!

Delilah bit at the chubby finger poking at her gums. Her stubby neck jerked back and teeth clacked, finding nothing. Her legs paddled at the empty air until she could climb and twist enough to see the girl's face. Maybe this was one of Mark's or Olivia's kindergarten friends. Not that Delilah cared much about the little kids around her neighborhood, but if this kid took her to a familiar street, then she could run away home.

"Arggh!" The girl said, dropping Delilah to the earth. The dog's ears pointed upward in anticipation, started barking again, though it it didn't move forward.

"Bad, bad, bad piggy!"
The girl shouted down at Delilah. "No bite!"

She reached forth with both hands, the bitten finger trembling, as she tried to grab hold of Delilah again.

Delilah: Running Wild!

Delilah toppled to the ground and squirmed to get back on her feet. She hesitated between the dog and the girl. The girl was annoying, but the dog was real danger. Like cars. If she were a girl, she wouldn't think twice about it. Delilah saw the girl reaching down and scurried beside her feet.

The girl seemed pleased with the equation, and walked away with Delilah in hand, the dog still barking, sound fading into the distance.
