Sarah sinks a dagger into the spider and Marklin follows it up with a well placed thrust of his spear, causing the foe to rear backwards slightly before slithering across the underside of the web and desending on the dwarf.

Valthur jumps aside as the creature's seeking mandibles snap at nothing but air.

Now that the spider is engaged in melee with Markliun and Valthur, Sarah is unwilling to risk throwing another dart.

Yhus keeps his torch handy, providing light for the melee combatants (well, mainly Marklin) to clearly see their foe.

The spider makes a few lunges at Marklin but the fighter manages to keep it at bay each time, using his weapon to ward off the spider's advances.

Yhus walks through the ensuing melee combat, torch in hand, and marches slowly but purposefully toward the dark hole in the distance. Some may notice a dreamlike, blissful expression on the young cleric's face as he walks away from his companions.

 Marklin feinted with short stabs, at the spider, that responded with its own feints, in turn. The Warrior made a sudden thrust into the creature’s side, as steel bit deep.

Valthur follows Marklin's thrust with a swing of his own, but something about the spider's many legs moving this way and that keeps the dwarf woefully off balance. His swing misses again.

Valthur's disgust at his own lack of success doubles when he sees Yhus wander off. "And where do you think you're going?"

Eoni could barely make out what was going on at the other end of the ledge but it looked like they were all still upright.

"Keep an eye out, Liam," she said nervously.

Sarah watches Yhus go, but does nothing other than try to see where he is going.

Aldara watches the engagement between man, Dwarf, and spider.  Then, she notices Yhus taking off.  "Uh-uh.  Yhus," she says, her upward inflection betraying her emotions, which were mostly negative, and mostly the nasty cousins "Fear" and "Uncertainty".  "Get back here!"

The spider fights ferociously, alternating its attention between Marklin and Valthur with seemingly little regard for the fact it is outnumbered. The spider turns on Marklin and manages to snatch the fighter's arm in its mandible. It is but a minor puncture wound, but with venomous creatures the true danger is their poison!

Meanwhile, Yhus pays not heed to Aldara's reproach and walks into the dark hollow, disappearing from sight. Moments later, the party hears what sounds like rustling leaves coming from the darkness.



OOC: Marklin is hit for 1 point of damage and must make a Save vs Poison.

"Yhus!" Aldara starts after Yhus, but stops and throws up her arms, returning to her companions.  With little else to do, she watches soldier and Dwarf stand toe-to-toe with the dread arthropod, but keeps an eye on the hollow...just in case.

I don't think I've hit my "just in case" quota for this game yet.

 One of Marklin’s feints failed, as the Spider penetrated the Warrior’s armor. He uttered an oath to a random god, and shoved the arachnid back, with his shield. The spear was thrust hard into the creature’s maw, that caused a gushing of black, foul smelling fluid.

Eoni heard the shouts and lost sight of Yhus in the melee.  She was torn between wanting to rush forward to help and keeping Liam out of harms way.  She settled on remaining vigilant where she was.  They would shout if they needed her.

Momentarily buoyed by the sight of Marklin's successful attack on the spider, Valthur swings wildly but hits nothing. The dwarf begins to wonder if the stench of rotting wood is finally getting to him. The hilt of his sword feels awkward in his hand, as if it is the first time he's ever used it.

Sarah whips out another dart.  Taking careful aim, she launches it into the spider's face.

09:29, Today: Sarah rolled 19,2 using d20+2,d4 with rolls of 17,2.  Throw Dart (14 to hit AC 5).

Sarah's dart flies straight and true, piercing the arachnid through one of its many eyes. The spider convulses violently for a second or so and then ceases motion altogether. The spider is slain!

There is little time for celebration however, as Yhus has inexpiclably left his companions and disappeared within the dark hollow ahead. The sound of rustling leaves and clattering twigs issues forth from the crimson-shroued darkness, but any calls for Yhus to respond are met with no human response.

"Nice shot, Missy," Valthur calls over his shoulder to Sarah. "Thank goodness your aim was batter than mine."

Dusting a few stray web strands from his face, the dwarf proceeds along the ledge toward the opening where Yhus disappeared. He slows as he gets closer, looking carefully above and below the opening for signs of other spiders or some other creepy crawly creature.

"Yhus," he calls as he closes in on the opening. "Yhus what do you think you're doing in there?"

Valthur draws closer to the dark hollow, peering into the darkness with his infravision. The broken limb's interior is about 10 feet wide and extends some 30 feet off the tree's trunk. Its interior walls are lined with a deep veil of bloodrose moss. Standing near the very far end of the limb, the dwarf sees Yhus...or at least a vestige resembling the young acolyte. Yhus' body is now covered in the crimson moss and he stands motionless as the living fungus grows rapidly over his form.

If this sight were not enough to give the dwarf pause, the strange creature standing to his side might. A vaguely female humanoid figure consisting of what appears to be twisted, rotting wood, vine and moss weaves her arms mystically, seemingly commanding the moss to her bidding. At first Valthur doesn't notice her, her form nearly blending into the surrounding area. The moment he does, she cranes her neck toward the dwarf and purrs:

"Welcome...welcome my rock dwelling pet. We have been expecting you...Come, let Isydra soothe your worries away...."

OOC: Valthur, please make a Saving Throw vs Spells

Staring from the entrance into the dark limb, Valthur's stomach clenches into a knot when he sees the young acolyte being consumed by the very moss for which they had been looking. He starts to raise an alarm to the others, but is interrupted by the strange form to the cleric's side. He tries to speak again, but can only murmur a soft response to her invitation.

"...Isydra?"
