Re: Out of Character Discussion

Eoni and Sarah: I've added a Fighter (Dergan) and Dwarf (Arleg) to the cast. Please welcome our new players to the game!

Still haven't heard back from Vaxfar yet, but believe Sarah knows the player in real life, and she's on the case.

Probably going to add one more character to the cast, but haven't made the final selection yet.

***

On a side note, did both of you intend to reprise your roles as Eoni and Sarah, or were you wanting to take up new, experienced characters?

I am cool with either option.

Re: Out of Character Discussion

I'd like to reprise Eoni, but will work with the story if it's better to start something new.  Though if I do start a new character, I'd like to start it 1st level.

I agree; it really depends on what you have in mind.  Sarah's level 6, so if that's the level you're shooting for I'd like to bring her back -- particularly if Eoni is coming back.  I could even see increasing her some (given the passage of time) if that's where the player level will be.  But if the player level is lower, I'd prefer to start someone new.

And welcome Dergen and Argleg!

And yes, still tracking down Vaxfur.

Re: Out of Character Discussion

New characters are coming in with 50,000 XP, which is how much XP Eoni and Sarah will have as well.

I think that levels up both of your characters, which you can go ahead and take care of when ready.

1.  Welcome Elam!

2.  Vaxfar said "sure, why not?" and I'd expect him to respond in-game this week.

3.  If it's been three years, I'm going to change my pic to reflect the passage of time and growing up a little. :)

4.  We're soon in need of a new OOC thread.

In reply to Sarah (msg # 985):

Thanks for the assist and update.

One of our players, who will be playing a Dwarf, is new to RPoL and PbP and is having some technical difficulties. He is working with the moderators to get his account fixed, so hopefully that won't take too long.

I would like to get this game underway this week, if possible.

One other thing: I'm really intrigued by the whole idea of being drawn back into service after disappearing and playing a slightly older Sarah.  I'm also fascinated by the "reunion" between Sarah and Eoni.

Re: Out of Character Discussion

Tips for Old School Dungeon's and Dragons
  1. Your character sucks.  Avoid rolling anything because you'll be lucky to have a +1 modifier and a 50% chance to hit.
  2. Healing sucks.  Don't get hurt because it takes forever to heal back to full.  If you expect to go wading in toe to toe, expect to walk around injured all the time.  Overnight healing is d3+level+con bonus (if any) and the cleric isn't going to waste her spell slots on you.  She'll hit you with her stick for d6+1 every day and you'll like it.
  3. Leveling up is just another chance to roll a 1 on your new hit points.  Ask Valthur about it.
  4. This game is role playing and strategy.  It's not a dungeon crawl where you wake up, fight, recover for a day, and repeat.  It's travel, travel, travel, fight, run away, get eaten by mosquitoes, get rained on, almost drown in a lake, lose the party's only magical weapon, fight, and spend most of the time beat up, sticky, and hungry.
  5. Check your inventory!  Don't forget to use what's in your pockets.
  6. Avoid combat if you want to live.  Refer back to points 1 and 2.
  7. Just because the map says there will be gauntlets of ogre power doesn't mean there will be any gauntlets.
  8. Remember, the next time we see that gnome, you need to give back that magic club you took from him.

You paint such an endearing picture--hard to see why everyone doesn't want to play Old School Dungeons & Dragons!

...and LOL about the gauntlets of ogre power and the magic club. I think Sarah has the club and has used it to great effect.

And now a moment for... Classic Quotes

"Wait a minute," Valthur whispers to Marklin as he puts two and two together. "Is she proposing we give that filliac... foliac tree... whatever it is in that box to somebody called the ghost lord? That sounds like suicide!"

Marklin nods in agreement.

"Yeah. She aims to kill us all," he says in disbelief.

"Ah, the hell with it! From one bad idea to the next. Let's be on with it...if we're fixing to die anyway."

Re: Out of Character Discussion

Lots of great moments from this game's past. Let's hope its future proves just as entertaining...

Our sixth player (the dwarf) is still having issues accessing the site. Somehow he managed to get banned shortly after creating an account to check out the PbP format. Not sure what happened there, but he either accidentally created a duplicate account and/or ran afoul of something else. He's contacted moderators for assistance, but not sure what the status and/or likelihood of getting that issue reolved any time soon.

At any rate, I don't want to hold up five other players who are seemingly ready to begin. I've looked over all your character sheets and done what I need to do on the backend to get us underway--was mainly waiting to see what would become of our dwarf.

All this to say, I will be opening a new OOC thread shortly and then providing some basic background info so we can kick off this next adventure!

One suggestion.. have him join the RPoL Discord (https://discord.gg/3Y7K3M) and try contacting someone that way? Might be faster/easier... not sure though.

I don't know how RPoL tracks multiple accounts, but I am guessing it's not just e-mail accounts. Maybe IP?

I don't know. I only have one account here.

Re: Out of Character Discussion

When I was very new to rpol, I didn't realize you couldn't have 2 accounts and was trying to see what other people saw when they looked at my page.  I was playing around with creating a new game so wanted to look at it like a player would.    Luckily, a moderator contacted me and asked me why I'd created a second account and when I told them, they slapped my hand and said don't do that again, and deleted it.  That was long ago but i learned my lesson.
