Taerix finds a spot to hunker down with his bow and takes a shot at the razorfiend. Unfortunately, not seeing the arrow made it harder to aim than he thought it would be.

Aldara breaks invisibility in a desperate bid to give her companions a chance to take down the greenspawn quickly or retreat, if possible. Taking a strand of spider's silk from her component pouch, she recites the magical words of power necessary to conjure forth a web spell.

A mass of tough, sticky webs forms over the greenspawn, entrapping the monster for the time being.

OOC: DM post to keep game moving. Cast Web, will last for 4 rounds before the greenspawn is able to break free.

The greenspawn jerks its sinuous neck violently away from Eoni's divine light, but is too late to avoid being blinded by its intense rays. The beast shakes its head in confusion and shrieks a harsh, metallic tone that even the most dim-witted might surmise to denote its extreme displeasure.

All the while, Valthur, Marklin and Taerix join battle against the monster. Only Valthur finds any success in this endeavor.

Sarah skulks along the remnants of the wall and ceiling in an effort to place herself somewhere above and behind the beast. Should the opportunity present itself, she hopes to strike the greenspawn in a vital area.

Meanwhile, Aldara binds the monster in a magic web.

The greenspawn rages against its binds, thrashing this way and that. She slams into the side of the building and causes its walls to shake!


OOC: The greenspawn is about 10 feet distant from Eoni and Valthur when she breaks the surface. The rest of the party is probably 30 feet distant.

Sarah must make a Dex check to remain atop the wall, but she is still free to act this round.

"Thank Avandra," the Sister sighed seeing her prayer had been answered.  In conjunction with Aldara's sorcerous net, they had a chance.  She looked to the wall and shouted, "Keep shooting it!"

"Valthur!"
she called out, stumbling back through the muck toward the dwarf.  "Let me bless your axe in the name of Avandra!"

Drawing his sword free of its scabbard, Marklin plunges the blade into the ensnared greenspawn. "Ha!" he roars in triumph upon feeling it puncture through the monster's tough scales. He pulls the blade free and shouts over his shoulder, "Fine bit of work ladies!"

Aldara, emboldened by her sorcerous success, breathes a sigh of relief.  She hurls one of her daggers at the fiend.

He reaches back with all his strength for another attack.

As his swings, his mud soaked hands lose their grip on the ax, sending it into the mud in front of him.

Boots sucking through the thick mud, the Sister arrived beside the dwarf and grasped the errant weapons handle rising from the muck.

"Avandra hear us, bless this axe,"
she intoned with head bowed.  "Evil looms, it needs some wacks!"

The walls shudder as the beast thrashes about, but Sarah manages to keep her perch.  Rising, she gauges for an opportunity and leaps to the ground.  Upon landing she attempts to plunge her sword into the writhing creature.


She succeeds . . . minimally.



18:19, Today: Sarah rolled 14,1 using d20,d8 with rolls of 14,1.  Backstab attempt.
Double Damage, so 2.

I swear, I don't think I've rolled above a two for damage on any backstab attempt.

Now that he can see his own bow and arrow again, Taerix shoots at the razorfiend again, and is much more successful this time.

The greenspawn continues to thrash about in the web, desperately trying to escape its bonds.


OOC: The greenspawn is about 10 feet distant from Eoni and Valthur when she breaks the surface. The rest of the party is probably 30 feet distant.

To speed things up, everyone can take 3 consecutive actions against the webbed monster.

Valthur takes the muddied axe from Eoni with a grin. "Thank you, sister. Now if you'll excuse me, it's time to wack some evil!"

He turns with teeth clenched, takes a few deliberate steps trough the muck back to the flailing razorfiend, and swings for all he is worth, striking once with what he senses is the aid of the Great Avandra, whoever that may be.

Another 15 damage so to the razorfiend! That was TWO of three actions. Valthur will wait on his third just to see what the others are doing. More than likely it will be another attack.

Two daggers thrown at the Greenspawn Mama.  Assuming medium range, please correct if need be.


Aldara hurls another dagger at the beast, and follows up immediately after with a grasp at one of the weapons at her waist, which she also throws.

Gonna wait to see what everyone else does before burning that last action.

With the monster trapped under a mound of sticky webs, Marklin is unconcerned with his defense and throws himself to the task of striking hard and fast. The fighter strikes the thick-scaled monster again and again...

Uselessly pulling the hem of her dress from the mud, the Sister slogged back toward the safety of the fort.  If the armsman weren't able to dispatch it quickly, she didn't want to be in their way.  May Avandra guide their way.

As the beast thrashes, Taerix continues to shoot at it. The webbing impedes some of his shots, however. He manages one hit.

Seizing the advantage gained from Aldara's web spell, the adventurers converge on the trapped monster and savagely deliver a feverish procession of attacks. The terrible beast howls with rage but it can do little but attempt to work itself free of its bonds as it is repeatedly subjected to blow after bloody blow.

In the end, the combined attacks prove too much for the greenspawn razorfiend. It dies beneath a mound of sticky webs, leaving the group free to continue to search for the fiendish eggs in the hatchery. In total, the party turns up 30 leathery eggs within the muck. More importantly, after completing a thorough investigation of the fetid nest, the party hears someone calling for help from within the ruins of the main building.

There, in the room Eoni had attempted to search for the iron chest, the party hears what sounds like the elf Eoni and Marklin had abandoned. A very weak voice calls out from beneath a mountain of rubble...

"Phylactery...here. Take it...to...Ghostlord..."

Then, silence.

"He's still alive!" Eoni shouted earnestly, now worried she should have found him earlier.  "Start digging!

"Aldara,"
the Sister entreated, turning the woman to ransack the sorceress' pack for something, "that gaseous potion, how does it work?  Could I go in and find him, then reform to call upon Avandra's Grace?  Then start digging from the inside and calling out where we are?"

"Well done Aldara," Valthur calls to his magic wielding friend. "They'll be happy back in town to know the secret weapon is no longer a threat. At least not if we tend to these eggs before they hatch into more acid spewing fiends." He digs the first of the eggs from the muck, cutting his hands on its sharp exterior as he does. After a few futile attempts at cracking it in the bed of mud, he carries it to the boardwalk and stabs at it repeatedly with his dagger.

The dwarf continues with this clumsy process until he hears Eoni calling for help. "Who's still alive?" he questions while slogging out of the muck onto the boardwalk and finally to the room where Eoni stands.

Not waiting for an answer, he starts to remove debris from the pile.

Taerix starts doing his best to destroy as many eggs as he can while watching carefully for any returning enemies. He is confident that the others can find that survivor and hopefully get him out of there.

Aldara groans as Eoni begins rummaging through her belongings, but ponders her question nonetheless.  "Manners!  I see no reason it shouldn't work as you suggest..."

The party busies itself with the unwholesome task of destroying the evil eggs, their dark contents spilling into the murky water with an acrid hiss. It takes all of the adventurers fortitude to avoid becoming sick at the retched stench, and perhaps not all are entirely successful in this matter. In any event, the task is done. The evil brood destroyed before their numbers can be added to the Red Hand's swelling horde.

Later, inside the ruins...

Moments after quaffing the potion, Eoni's body evaporates into a swirl of blue-gray smoke. Coalescing into a wispy tendril, the smoke filters into the ruined room, in search of the elf buried beneath the rubble and debris...

After a short search, Eoni, in gas form, locates the elf, crushed beneath a large section of ceiling. Sadly, the elf is dead, its dying act to call out in hopes the adventurers would continue the mission he set out to accomplish.

Cradled with the dead elf's arms is the iron chest!

Armed with this information, once the potion wears off several minutes later, Eoni is able to return to her companions and coordinate the excavation. It takes a bit of effort, but the party is able to clear out the rubble to get to the dead elf and the iron chest.

The elf is barely recognizable. Attired in nothing but a soiled loincloth, his body is badly bruised, cut and scarred from the torment he endured under Nurklenak's care, to say nothing of the trauma of being crushed beneath the weight of a wall as it collapsed.

It must have been quite the battle here, after the adventurers departed!

In any event, the iron chest is still intact but appears to be locked.
