Equipping Your Character
1. I use a reduced armor list that is closer to what was available in 1E.  Here are the options:

Leather coat+1
Leather+2
Studded Leather+3
Hide+3
Ring Mail+3
Scale Mail+4
Chain Mail+5
Splint Mail+6

Full Plate+8

2. The modified armor options require some tweaks to the armor allowable by class table.  Here is the updated table:

Equipping Your Character
Selection of starting equipment will operate under an accelerated procedure rather than rolling random gold and picking items from the PHB.  To equip your PC, go through the following process:

1. Select a primary melee weapon.

2. Select a secondary melee weapon.

3. Select a missile weapon (if allowed by class) and ammo.

4. Select an armor type usable by your PC no better than chain mail (i.e., you can also pick leather armor, but not splint mail).

5. Select a shield and/or helmet if you would like.

6. Your PC has 100 gp in savings.

7. Your PC has any items required for its class (i.e., holy symbol for clerics, thieves' tools for rogues, etc.).  Let me know if you want to play an assassin and we will work out starting poisons.

8. Select one of the following equipment packages:

The "Classic" Pack:

Backpack
2 flasks of oil
Flint & steel
4 torches
50' rope
1 week's standard rations
Bandages (2 wounds)
Waterskin (1 gallon)
Small sack
Either (pick one):
  • Grappling hook; or
  • Pitons/spikes (10)

The "Smart" Pack:

Backpack
1 flask of oil
Bottle of ink
Quill
10 pages of paper
Sealing Wax
Scroll case (10 sheets)
1 week's standard rations
Stick of incense
5 candles
Tinder box
Canteen of water

The "Mischief" Pack:

Backpack
2 flasks of oil
Bag of marbles (25)
Crock of grease
String (50')
Metal file
1 week's standard rations
Hooded lantern
Canteen of water
2 small sacks
Bag of dust

9. You can purchase any other standard gear you would like using your 100 gp starting money (assuming you want anything outside the starting equipment detailed above).  Please note you may not purchase expert weapons and armor as part of your starting gear.
