Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

Armed with his mace and holding his shield, Elwood moves closer to the Orc party, but carefully stays abreast of Khaaven and Cole, not wanting to get in the way of their ranged attacks.

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

Len is thankful that he went to the right of the group of adventurers. It is easier now to advance upon the orcs without being hit by the ranged weapons. His battle axe is out and ready.

"Stupid orcs" he mutters under his breath.

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

Hugh regains his composure after his failed attack and redoubles his effort to put the wounded orc down, for good. He punches hard and fast...

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

With Hugh engaged in melee combat with the blind orc, missile fire is a risky proposition.  Fortunately, no one needs to decide whether to gamble with Hugh's life since Hugh easily sweeps Orc #1 off its feet and crushes its head with a heel kick.  The party has extended its tradition of bitch-slapping all opposition in its path (living opposition, anyway).

Snarg looks around in confusion.  He's clearly groggy from the beating he has taken.  He looks over at Dreya and shakes his head like he is trying to clear it.  He squints at her, then says [Language unknown: Ersll?].

The other two orcs are snoring peacefully in the clearing.  Vecivious appears to have joined them and has nodded off in the crook of a somewhat comfortable-looking tree.

What do you do?

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

Quickly put the two sleeping orcs into a permanent sleep by cutting their throats. After which I will loot the bodies and also see if any of these orcs have the same medallions we took from the others. Even though the orcs are now dead will also bind them by their feet and hands just in case they decide to come back as undead.

Returning his bow to its holster, Cole pulls Vera from her sheath as he makes his way to where Dreya and Snarg are standing. Upon reaching them, Cole will stand guard and keep his eyes alert for anyone who may try to surprise them.

Hugh crouches beside the orc he just put down and scans the surrounding area for any signs, audible or visible, of more orcs en route.

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

"I'll check the perimeter" Len announces to the group. He walks to the treeline and peeks in. The fighter goes to his left, examining what may be within the flora. After some minutes of going back and forth, he seems satisfied that no more orcs wait within the trees.

"It looks clear" he states when he returns to the others.

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

Elwood quietly circles around the hunting lodge until he is facing the east wall, keeping his distance (~25 feet, hopefully still behind the treeline).  He then chants "In nomine Flyspamon, cogito ergo sum ferrum hominis" {casts 'Detect Undead' while facing the cabin}.

Once the spell is complete, Elwood will quietly return to the group and tell them of his findings.  He'll also mention that he can cast the spell "Sound Burst" inside the cabin in case there are any creatures (living or undead) inside.

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

In reply to Elwood (msg # 26):

The clearing extends to about a 50 foot radius centered on the lodge.  The range of detect undead is more than adequate to check out the lodge from tree cover.  You're not sure if the wood in the walls of the lodge will ultimately block the spell, but the spell should definitely penetrate into the lodge at least part way.

Do you still want to cast the spell?

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

In reply to Castle Keeper (msg # 27):

With an understanding that the wooden walls may interfere with the spell,  Elwood still casts Detect Undead to determine if there may be undead present. I'd he detects nothing,  he'll still warn his comrades that there is the possibility that undead may still lurk within,  not to mention live enemies.

OOC:  Hey, you'll never know if you don't try.

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

Snarg hears [Language unknown: etsiti] and his beady orcish eyes light up.  Dr. Feelgood is back!  Snarg hurries toward Dreya, saying, [Language unknown: Overeaany maomek earoneset!].  He gobbles down the goodberries and immediately begins to look better.  The bruises covering his face begin to fade and some of his teeth "straighten".  [Language unknown: A, arunee kor eiatfi!]

Elwood peers intently at the lodge while muttering a prayer to Flyspamon.  His eyes begin to glow blue as his inner sight extends into the lodge.  He does not, however, sense any undead within.  Whether undead are crawling around below the lodge remains to be seen.  Too much dirt hides the dungeon from Elwood's perception.

Khaaven mercilessly terminates the sleeping orcs.  Silence descends on the clearing (other than Snarg's slurps of joy).

What do you do?

Khaaven will search the dead orcs and bind their hands and feet just in case they rise like the others did. In the search he is starting with medallions do they have the same ones that the others did and continuing to look for any type of valuables or items of interest.

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

In reply to Khaaven (msg # 30):

Whoops!  I forgot you asked about medallions.  Yes, the 3 dead (and as yet unanimated) orcs are wearing medallions like the ones you took from the orcs inside the lodge on your first foray.  They aren't carrying anything else of interest (unless you are a big fan of collecting miscellaneous copper pieces).

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

Will set aside for later never throw good coin aside, but priorities and all that. Tie them up so that if they do animate will be secured and of little threat to us. Will explain my findings to everyone about medallions etc.

"Guys these now dead Orcs have the same medallions as the others who raised up earlier. Securing them now to make sure no threat to us if they do rise up once again."

Looks to the rest of the party briefly, "We need to get some information on what is happening or who might still be inside the lodge. I will go and scout it out give me a few minutes to get into a position to find some answers for us."

Khaaven will go scout out the lodge remembering the layout from when they were inside earlier. He will attempt to climb into an upstairs window and scout from the broken staircase area not wanting to go inside on the ground floor alone. From the upstairs can spy and even use his crossbow from relative safety covering his friends as they breach the first floor if needed.

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

Khaaven easily scales the sides of the lodge and slips into the ruin of the upper floor.  The attic is a disaster of smashed timber, rotting wood, and cobwebs.  The roof is partially intact, but there are wide gaps in places.  As a result, some of the attic is brightly lit while other portions are shrouded in darkness.  Khaaven makes his way to the hole in the floor where the stairs used to be.  Peering down, he can see into the fireplace room.  All is silent down below.  The fireplace is in the "down" position.  As Khaaven watches Cole enter the lodge from below, he has a very strong sense that something else is up in the attic with him.

Cole walks inside the lodge to find everything empty and quiet.  The fireplace is in the "down" position.  The light situation is poor due to the front window being boarded up, but enough light is coming through the open doorway for him to see.

Snarg pursues Dreya and begins pawing at her belt pouch.  [Language unknown: Acai, lela.  As p at the buttinwhi.  Rita itheaucon!  Est e prei riases!]

Aside from Snarg's aggressive behavior toward Dreya's belt pouch, all is calm outside.  The only other sound is Vecivious's snoring.

Turning to Elwood, Dreya says "So Snarg says there are lots of orcs below.  I...uh...assume he means the tunnel."  Turning, she smacks at another groping orc mitt.  "Snarg!  I said wait!  I don't have anymore healing berries...you just ate all the ones I just made!"

Chapter 2: Back to the Hunting Lodge

[Not until now. :)]

Len carefully walks up to the group.

"Hey" he begins, keeping an eye on the trees. "I hear something. Something from that way."

Len points his free hand to the southwest.

"I'm going to go hide behind a tree. See if I can get a drop on whatever that is."

Len keeps his careful stride and makes his way to a tree where he can hide and keep a watchful view.
