...And then there's my noble family, another potential employment tie-in. Just a thought! Not everyone has to know somebody I'm sure.

I could have been hired by you or your family as a little extra protection. Unless someone else is looking for some.

Thomas Gwendellow:
My understanding of the archetype is to focus on Two Weapon Fighting via Finesse weapons with Charisma/Constitution as good secondary scores.  The basic idea seems to be to walk through an enemy line to whoever really wants to avoid melee and force him to deal with me.  But I'll happily to listen some advice or other ideas :)

You've got the gist of it ;) I'd recommend allocating expertise to Persuasion prior to level 9 to get the most out of Panache. Otherwise its pretty much fool proof :)

quote:
I have an idea for connecting Bran to myself and Enryn.  What if Bran initially encounters us while we're practicing for our little endeavor to recover the people's gold from the tax collector somewhere out in the woods, and assumes that we're actually bandits practicing our raiding techniques?  Then say you decide to "offer your help" in order to catch us and any of our fellows (because surely only two people aren't crazy enough to attack a tax collector's caravan by themselves).  At some point either during the preparation or maybe during the actual operation, Bran realizes that it really is only the two of us and what we're intending to do and why.  At that point, Bran could either actually help or maybe just step aside and let us do our thing without his help.

Afterward when Enryn and I have to skip town, perhaps you would be willing to guide us out of there?  And then we end up doing some guard work somewhere for some busy-body caravan (hint-hint) for a while until we end up back in Nightstone hopefully when our exploits are a bit farther away from being the choicest gossip running around town.

I've been mulling this one over, trying to find the best way to intersect our story arcs. Bran is a direct sort of person and I don't think he's clever enough to try to bait you. I also think he would struggle to turn a blind eye to robbery aforethought, even that which is committed with an altruistic motive.

Here's what I think: Bran arrives just after the tax collector has been robbed and sets out to find you. He does so but upon learning the circumstances he makes the judgement that the two of you are more misguided youths in need of good mentoring than hardened bandits beyond redemption, especially since no one has been hurt (I think?). Consequently, he makes the uncharacteristic decision to let you go and goes so far as to cover your tracks. After the immediate furor dies down a few days later he agrees to help you quietly skip town by signing on aboard his caravan.

It works well with one of his traits: 'Anything can be learned if you have the right teacher. Most folks just need a chance.'

@Nor Zver: Its an easy tie in for Bran if you like. I'm sure he's always looking for reliable muscle.

That's work, too, Bram. Actually, if we're wanting to all link together, I could have at one time been employed by River or her family, finished the job and released, and now working with you.

*Ahem*

Despite the hair, the name, the flair for singing randomly, and the zest for poetry...

Despite that, your idea that you could have worked for both my family and Bran is good with me. Maybe you worked for my family first, long ago. That's how you met Bran. You decided you preferred to be on the road than guarding some nobles, and signed up with Bran? It may have been some time, and perhaps we were really little more than acquaintances. Can't associate myself with the help too much after after all. Lol.

It's cool. No offense taken, I was mostly joking. River is indeed male though.

It brings up a good point, actually. Are there any women in this group?

Zekia. And here's a suggestion -- don't tell her that you didn't know that she was female. :D

Haha... you right, brother. My bad. Wasn't thinking.

Yeah, I should certainly know she's a female. I'm the one who recommended her lol.

Still, rather disparate ratio of men-to-women here. Something I've actually found to often lean the opposite way on RPOL

Re: "Session Zero"
I'm done with my sheet I believe. I stuck Bardic Inspiration in a weird place (no not my bum), down with my spell slots. That way I have one place where I can edit everything is as when we're playing.

I got my description, and portrait up. Bio Lines, sheet... I think I'm pretty much good.

Re: "Session Zero"
Alright I'm going to put up a short summary. Let me know if this sounds right.

A motley troupe has been assembled to travel to Nightstone and mediate between the nobles and elves of the Ardeep forest.
The group consists of:
Bran - Scout and guide
River - Waterdhavian noble and silver tongued negotiator
Tegan - River's half-brother, kind hearted half elf who's nice to have in a scrap
Thomas - Halfling native of Nightstone with a reputation for sticking up for the little guy
Eryn - Childhood friend of Thomas and fellow Nightsone native
Zekia'Daleia - Member of the Night's Embrace, she along to handle any clandestine aspects of the job
Nor Zver - The muscle, Nor is along to crack a few heads of things go sideways

I assume everyone knows each other to varying degrees. Again this isn't the start of game I just want to make sure we're all on the same page before I unleash you =)

Re: "Session Zero"
Better a traveling troupe than a standard D&D trope, methinks:

"It is a dark and stormy night, but all is bright and cheery in the tavern where you all meet for the first time . . ." :)

Actually, Tegan is River's half-brother. :)

I'll put up the initial post in a moment. It'll give you all an opportunity to do some warm up RP.

Re: "Session Zero"
Haven't been here for a while.

So guys, I wanted some suggestions on what I should do with expertise, since I'm getting it with this level up. I'm definitely going with persuasion, since I find it a fun skill and I like to use it.

For the second one though, I was originally thinking perception, because I like the idea of having eagle-eyes that are better at seeing things (though my wisdom isn't great)

However, since we seem to have (possibly? not sure where we stand actually) lost Thomas, our Rogue, I'm wondering if maybe I should choose stealth so I can pick up some of the slack sneakiness-wise. I know we still have Bran and he's good at stealth, and I won't be bad at it regardless, but expertise will go towards making me twice as good.

So, what do you think I should choose? Perception, or stealth? Be better at catching anyone or anything trying to sneak, or better at sneaking up on others?

I know eventually I'll get to pick up the other one regardless, but level 10 is a long way away lol.

Re: "Session Zero"
Lets start with what choice you made for college :)

Are you Lore, Valor? Or one of the others?

That will influence the style of play more than expertise, and we can go from there.

Re: "Session Zero"
In reply to Zekia'Daleia (msg # 75):

Lol it's not quite that great. Not yet at least; my wisdom score isn't that high. It'll get more impressive at later levels when our proficiency scores go up.

I *do* have a wizard as you know who has 19 passive perception thanks to the observant feat, and a barbarian who has the Aspect of the Eagle which gives her literal eagle eyes. I've always thought it would be interesting to combine that Eagle feature, the observant trait, expertise in perception, and a high (max) wisdom score.

That would be a ridiculous build and I'm not sure how it would work, but... damn, you would see the matrix. Lol
