Episode One Interlude: Life in Carp on the Wall

A short intermission for the characters to play around: one week in Carp on the Wall. Instead of simply making a short "this is what you did", with some quick highlights, I thought it might be better (given that we are stil lwaiting on the new players) to give you a chance to just look around.

The village has a smith, a general trader, and an Adept (closest-thing-we-have-to-a-priest, as your friendly innkeeper would call her).

Choose one each, based on your preference. It's not an exclusive thing, you may opt go along with somebody else.

You can also go see the miller, or some of the farmers, including Maron's family. It-s really up to you. We'll wrap this up as soon as everybody is ready.

Episode One Interlude: Life in Carp on the Wall

Dakash has a whole list of things to do in the next week, but feels it is important for him to visit the family of the slain farmer, Maron. As the spiritual guide for his friends and colleagues, it is, of course, his duty. But as a man born of a race that feels the pain of death without the loss...in most cases...he is always interested in helping others find closure, or at least listen to their questions about death.

He makes his way to the home that is his destination, though he does so slowly, having left a message for Leonia and Aran in case they wanted to join him.

The farmhouse is a simple but sturdy building made of wood and stones. When Dakash arrives, the kids are already out in the fields.

Esta, Maron's widow, is on the porch, apparently working on embroidering something. As per Lia's description, she's a stocky brunette, and Lia made a point to mention that she's the no-nonsense type.

The big blue man pauses intentionally on his walk to the house, admiring the scenery, and whatever care is (or is not) intentional in the appearance of the house and grounds. 'No-nonsense' doesn't necessarily mean unable to be flattered, or without personal charm, and Dakash wants to make as good a first impression as he can, even if he isn't expecting to ever meet or speak with this woman again.

As he nears the house he raises a hand and calls out cheerfully. "Good day! Well, as good as can be had, given the day it is, and what news yesterday brought us. My name is Dakash. May I sit and talk a moment?"

Esta looks up from her work: "You are one of Master Zhorr's guests, aren't you? I suppose I should thank you for getting rid of those things, before they could take my children, too. What can I do for you?"

Dakash smiles knowingly. She was right; the mindless nature of the wasps lent itself well to the malicious leanings of the mites. There would have been no person, no matter how young or innocent, that would have been spared the pain and likely death of the swarm.

"We were just in the right place at the right time, is all. Korada put my feet on the path, and I followed where it led me." He made a fist with his right hand and nodded to it.

"I was wondering if perhaps Maron had been working a new part of the field, or maybe unearthed something recently in his working the land. Something silver, like a coin? Do you recall seeing anything like that?"

Esta looks at Dakash with mild disapproval: "One should be careful speaking divine names out loud in Cheliash. It brings bad luck."

She sets her embroidery work to the side and thinks for a moment: "A silver coin? Out in the fields? If he found one, he didn't tell me. I will ask the kids when they come back from the fields. If it looked valuable, he might have asked Mandala, too."

Sleeping in was a a luxury for Aran. A luxury he indulged in to a fault, perhaps, during his visit to the Carp on the wall. This particular day, he woke up and leaped into action, as he hoped to spend more time with who would be his traveling companions.

With no one seemingly in sight,  he decided to go to pay a visit to Maron's family as well and was pleased to find Dakash had the same thought.

"Good morning Dakash. Ma'aam."

"And to you, Master Kalisar. I trust your slight injury in yesterday's encounter has repaired itself and did not cause you to lose precious sleep last night?" He waits for a response if one comes, then returns his attention to the widow.

"It's entirely possible that the discovery of such a coin or object would have escaped his notice. Perhaps he seemed distracted or forgetful in the last few days? Misplaced something but couldn't recall what it was he was looking for? Or The kids may have thought there was something interesting they wanted to show you but then forgot where or what it was? I know these are odd questions and I apologize for the inconvenience of my bothering you with them."

He really was feeling sorry for the woman. Perhaps Maron had lived a good enough life that she and his soul could both find some peace.

Slight? Well, sure, I guess. I mean, he had 1 hit point left, but technically he was well within the healing ability of a "cure light wounds".
Esta hakes her head: "We have all been distracted, I'm afraid... Lia has been helping as much as she can with the drought, but after she makes the water we still have to water the fields ourselves, and it takes plenty of time and effort. Maron has been talking about a proper irrigation system for years, but there was never the time, and now..."
