"Twelve thousand, eight hundred and sixty."  The voice is that of an old man, but comes from the direction of the silver cylindrical can on two legs over in the corner.  The voice is rich and carries with it the wisdom of many years.

"See, just a few hundred", he says with a sheepish grin. "A few times over."

Tump does a double take. "So you do have a voice module. I suppose that's better than mass messaging us all."

The droid's dome swivels back and forth a few times.  "No.  This is not my voice."  This time the voice is distinctly Guri's.

"Thang looks more like a trash can than a droid". Django thumbs his nose and leans back in his seat, and then lets out a deep sigh.

"Vex was purty clear on his "deal", if it can even be called that. Clear out, quick and quiet, and he'll forget we all ever existed. Said if we ever come back to Core, we're all dead. Son of a baravine looked crazy and in control at the same time when he said it. I couldn't get a read on em', but I don't trust his word no further than I could throw em'. Withstandin' we wasn't up in space again".

Django gets a slight smirk on his face. "Which by the way Tump... beatcha' there".

Vyctor stands and paves with excitement. "This is actually great news.  It means that what we're doing means something to Vexember.  We have him worried.  He came out to see to this personally.  That is huge, a victory in itself.  It has literally and figuratively brought him down to our level."

The 'trash can' extends a third leg from under its torso and rolls over to Django.  "If it's garbage then perhaps I am the appropriate receptical.  May I?"  His voice this time is that of a small boy.  It holds out a manipulator claw.

Several cords and manipulators extend from the droid and connect to the device.  One of them suffers a nasty feedback surge, but seems unharmed.  The others connect as well and encounter no problems.

After about ten seconds, the droid shakes a bit and is done swivels back and forth.  While that is happening, the cords and arms retract, the last one pulling the device in with it.

Eventually the shaking stops as does the swiveling.  The droid just sits there quietly after that.

Speaking to Aice, Django asks "So, wutchu find on that piece a' tech? Anythin' useful?".

Aice projects a holographic image of a late-middle-aged man in a black, leather pilot's jacket, short, greying hair, and dark blue pants with a red stripe running down each side.  The holographic image looks around until his gaze comes to rest on Vyctor.  Then he speaks in the same voice that Aice used last.  "What have you done to my ship?"

The Basement

The hologram turns to Tump at the same time Aice's dome does.  The hologram rolls its eyes.  "No.  My name is Aice.  I was just...showing off."  The hologram disappears but Aice still uses Captain Solo's voice.  "Past R-series droids - and many other astromech models - were never fitted with speech modules.  They only spoke in binary or what was called 'Droidspeak'.  However, this was by choice.  Most R-series droids were smart enough, but couldn't be bothered with using their holoprojection technology to synthesize voices to speak to their organic companions.  I have found that communication breakdowns lead to unnecessary inefficiencies.  Therefore I choose to use my holoprojection technology, more precisely the audio side of it, to synthesize conversations from audio files I have stored over the years.  Since both Captain Solo and Guri spent large amounts of time around me, I have extensive enough recordings of them to produce an unbroken communication pathway.  What would seem natural to you instead of a series of individual words projected from different voice files."

The dome swivels toward Django.  "I do not have multiple personality disorder.  If there are any anthropomorphic psychological disorders that could be assigned to me, you might consider significant arrogance and slight narcissistic tendencies with a propensity for pranks, jokes, and riddles.  Blame Captain Solo and Guri for those."

He rotates his dome back to Tump.  "If it it's too complicated for you to keep up, I can use Droidspeak."  It's difficult to tell, but something in the tone makes the statement less arrogant and more joking/teasing.

"My initial analysis of the device discovered a small feedback loop that might have destroyed the Falcon's navigation and flight computer about the time we would have left Corellia's atmosphere.  We would have been dead in the water.  The coding was subtle so it is not Django's fault he did not catch it.  I would be surprised if one of Tump or Inarra's skill would have caught it, and their's is considerable."  The dome swivels back and forth and a very human sigh escaps from the droid's speaker.  "I am not intended to brag here.  I have a different tool set that bypasses the indirect method of interface you would use to access it.  That threat was the only one I detected and it has been neutralized.  What is left is a slightly inaccurate star chart of the galaxy.  It is off enough that we likely would have tried to fly through a star or other large mass the first time we went to hyperspace and been destroyed."

"You gotta be kiddin' me.  Hello?  I'm an astromech droid.  Star charts and hyperspace navigation is my PRIMARY function.  It's a wonder you people have gotten this far."  The tone of the voice translates perfectly into an eyeroll in the mind.  Aice emits another hologram, this time of the galaxy.  It zooms in on a series of lanes through the star systems in rapid succession.
