Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
The Moon Radish patch that Perlivash, your new Faerie Dragon friend, mentioned isn't all that far away, and is thankfully directly between you and Oleg's Trading Post to the northeast. Travel is slower now that you're mapping things out but with your capacity to forage and the redeemed bandits now assisting it's a much less difficult endeavour.

The situation with Kressle proves to be immediately problematic, as after less than an hour after being reintroduced into the group she's already broken someone's arm. Things rather swiftly calm down after that however and she seems to have established herself as the de facto leader again.

Perlivash darts off ahead and then returns, floating in the air before all of you, "Lots of kobolds ahead picking radishes, putting them in a big basket, they have spears and little bows.

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
The travel there is going to be an interesting one, Carslan isn't going to let the bandits rest but he is also working, in fact he's the first to start on something then has them drawn in to assist him, scavenging, hunting, gathering herbs, roots, bits of valuable wood as they travel, turning the bandits into a drag net around the cart.

When Kressle inevitably breaks someones arm, he'll fix it up and find out what happened to cause it after all either he provoked her and needs a whipping for it, or she went for him and the reverse, fair, even handed punishments are doled out on the move to avoid festering resentment over the issue, unless anyone else has other ideas? (Most likely a fine unless, I don't know, he tried to rape her or something)

All in all though he fully exploits the chance to use the travel over to weld the bandits together under command and lead by example, which'll with any luck remove any latent resentment as they see him working as hard as any of them rather than kicking back and commanding from on high.

By the time they arrive, he's most likely aching, his robes are probably filthy and he probably has more than a few scrapes and cuts, question is, does the plan work?

"What can you tell us about the local Kobolds Perlivash?"

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
After some rather unenjoyable travel through some very distasteful terrain, Tatyana is pleased when Perlivash announces they have arrived. She dismounts and pulls free a few small twigs from her long braided hair with a sigh and approaches the rest of the group.

"Well, it seems rather unsporting to just jump out and start stabbing the little lizards, but I'm not sure we can just walk up and talk to them."

Tatyana speaks quietly to the other members of the group, and rests a hand on the hilt of her blade.

"So do we just surround them and take the radishes by force?"

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
Perlivash lands on a nearby branch, settling down a little and speaking in hushed tone. "These Kobolds are the red ones, they turned up not long ago from somewhere else. I heard that they found a real dragon nearby and they are doing things for it. I don't believe it, I'd know if there was a big dragon around here."

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
Valentina doesn't try to involve herself with everything going on in the camp, mostly limiting herself to herb gathering, helping the wounded and bothering Kressle, her new best friend. She would also try to help the man whose arm was broken by Kressle - if Carslan isn't faster about it. Of course, she would try to find out the reason behind the accident, talk to Kressle in her own cryptic way and try to be reasonable - as much as she can - about it.

During their trip to the radish field, Valentina tries to stay away from Perlivash, as far as possible without leaving the group.

"We have given a chance for peaceful  to murderers and thieves. I see no reason why not treat hunters and gatherers the same way."

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
"It'd probably be for the best to approach as a group, not go into the radishes, see if we can call one or two of them over from behind protection of the cart."

Carslan'll organize that, getting a bit of a shield wall set up and once they're on the edge of the radish patch he'll call over it "Are these your radishes?" to the Kobolds, taking the chance to count the number of heads that pop up out of the patch while presenting a strong, unified front to make it clear attacking would be a foolish choice.

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
The bandits form up in the background and look imposing, not difficult to do when you look like bandits and there's so many of you. Along with everyone else present there's near a dozen bodies, enough to actually outnumber the red scaled lizard people.

The clearing is very large, and within you can see a great number of radishes still in the ground. The kobolds have collected a basket for of them, the radishes a pale white colour that seems almost radiant in appearance, despite the soil covering them. As soon as you appear they instantly go on the defensive, reaching for spears and slings, yapping to each other in their own language.

Once you say something however, they look confused at one another, more yipping back and forth before one finally steps forwards, spear raised and looking defiant. "Yes, our radishes, go away!"

"In that case; can we buy some from you?" that should throw them off, lets see if they react reasonably or not. After all, he doesn't doubt for a second they're expecting a fight, or bullying, borrowing, bartering, banditry or even a browbeating.

But buying might put them in the right sort of mood for a conversation as he adds "How much would you say we need Valentina?" once he has the answer he'll get a price off of them.

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
Valentina thinks, but only for a brief moment. The life on the rocky shores of Acumen Isle was a harsh one and most of the ration was made out of fish. Still, she reasons, how hard could it be to cook a radish stew compared to brewing a herbal remedy.

"A dozen would be fine, I think," - she only speaks into Carslan's mind, but turns to him nevertheless to show the rest of the party that she is indeed answering.

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
The kobolds look between each other, yipping back and forth before seemingly coming to something like a consensus. "We want... coins, shiny coins!" The others yip in agreement, nodding vehemently, "Lots of coins... this many coins for each radish!" The kobold holds up his hand, gesturing with four clawed fingers.

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
Carslan gives a nod "Of course, I'll need to see the product first.", he kneels and inspects one of the Radishes, asking various questions about it, holding it contemplatively and weighting it in one hand, asking a few questions about what they feed them and so on.
Admittedly Carslans haggling experience comes more from horses, but he suppresses his urge to ask about the teeth while taking the Kobolds entirely seriously and more importantly makes them wait on his questions, to the point where they're more eager about pocketing the money than counting it out.
Finally he nods thoughtfully and asks "Mind helping us load them?" before handing a handful of coins to the Kobold closest without even looking at them, there's certainly something more of well shined copper than gold though for the brief second they're in the open.
The lead Kobold pockets them instantly, just happy to finally have the money in hand after so ruminating on the root vegetable in depth. Carslan doesn't give himself away by smiling, but he does get them to help uproot and load the Radishes before offering the Kobold his hand to shake "A pleasure to trade, is there any chance you'd be interested in being hired on as guides, for another coin or two?"

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
The kobolds seem more than satisfied with the bunch of shiny coins, it was definitely more than the radishes were worth judging by how shiny they were and how unsure the human was. They must have been intimidated by their strength at arms.

"No, no guides. Too busy. We're taking the money and going now, no following!" The kobold jabs his spear vaguely in the direction of the party before they all gather up and scamper off with their ill gotten gains, leaving you with a sack full of radishes and 48 copper pieces lighter.

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
Gawain stands silent throughout the proceedings ... and then continues to do so for a good few moments after the kobolds leave. He looks around his companions for a moment, seemingly speechless, a look of utter bemusement on his face. After about a minute of nobody really doing anything he steps forward into the now unclaimed radish patch;

... and begins to pick radishes.

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
Valentina stays still - since being silent is a given with this white-haired witch - for the duration of the exchange, eyeing the small creatures with curiosity. Only when they leave does she speaks to Carslan.

"Do you see now? For those of higher spheres we are just like these kobolds. Just pawns to be ruled, to be played with, to be cheated."

She starts helping Gawain to load the radishes, taking only one radish at a time.

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
Looks to the pair, then kneels amongst the Radishes and instead of picking them mutters something over them quietly as Jack stands at his side, the Radishes under his palm blossom to life, petals spreading and unfurling into tiny, delicate flowers. He then sets about picking the seed pods that develop under the flowers, as well as the flowers themselves, popping one or two in his mouth as he goes.

"I gave them exactly what they asked for in fair trade, if you decide to take more? That is your choice, not mine. Don't take too many, we might have to deal with the Kobolds again. This might be their staple food source, they might not have anything else. Besides, we can grow our own easily enough and the flowers are edible."

Not that he isn't willing to cheat them, but in this case, he doesn't need to, if we have a spare barrel or crate, line the inside with soil and plant the seeds.

"That's what they do as well," - Valentina didn't even hide that the target of her glares was Perliwash, - "They offer us the fair trade. But when we expect gold, all we get are shiny coppers. It makes me feel grateful that I have no voice, for my voice would only sound like kobold's yipping to those beyond."

Chapter 1: Stolen Lands - Moon Radishes
Between them, the party picks a few more radishes in relative silence, the mood having gotten decidedly uncomfortable rather suddenly. With a basket full of radishes in hand, the party set out once again on their adventure back to Oleg's Trading Post.
