Barracks section

The military section of the ship, situated right below the bridge and Captain's quarters, is restricted to military staff only. It contains several sleeping dorms, appartments for officers, a training course and gun range, and an operations center with full computer access to the ship. Security clearance 'Restricted' and upwards is required to enter these areas.

Chief morale officer Jan VanderBeek exited the turbolift, going into the hallway and heading straight for the reinforced barrack doors. They remained firmly shut despite him swinging his wrist along the scanner.

"Marco, open the barracks."

It took but a fraction of a second for marco to reply.
"I am sorry, you do not have access."

Vanderbeek sighed, rubbing his eyes.
"Marco, open the barracks. Override authorisation code Echo-Hawk-Monolith-Vanderbeek. Confirm."

The double doors slid open, allowing Jan access into a larger central hall. Doors lead to at least eight other areas, the front desk was unmanned. Lockers adorned the wall everywhere, nicely worked into the wall surfaces so as to seem completely normal. He flipped his wrist at the nearest one.
A panel slid open, allowing access to four SA-80X bullpup assault rifles. Slinging one over his shoulder he grabbed a couple clips before he closed the panel again and left the barracks.

Troy goes looking for his bunk. Being just a commisioned soldier he has a bed in one of the larger rooms, sharing it normally with 4 others. Since he is the first one, he selects the bed furthest from the wall and starts to put his gear into one of the lockers.
Then he decides to lay down, give his body some rest.

From:  Cryo

Maxwell accessed the Barracks, then used her chip to open the Security Office.  She opened her locker and withdrew her duty belt.  Jen checked to see that the black nylon belt with it's holster and pouches had survived the trip to date.  Jen filled the pouches with a pair of handcuffs, a rechargeable flashlight, a taser, three seventeen round mags of 9mm ammunition, and a now loaded Gen 4 Glock 17 from the Security Office arms locker.

Now officially dressed for work, Jen logged into the system to write an investigative summary of what she had discovered to date.  She logged it under her personal password to keep the results of the open case from prying eyes.

Jen logged the note of the pod locations into the evidence locker.  She kept the .22, spending a minute to give it a bit of gun oil to help it function better for when it was needed.  She found an ankle holster small enough to hold the back up piece in the undercover gear carton and wrapped it securely in place to hold her new backup weapon.  Jenni now felt ready to face the world, or in this case, her new world.

Making her way from the Cryo facility Lee shuffled along the passage leading to the barracks. Leaning an arm against the bulkhead for support as she tapped away on the ID interface to get access. She didn't much care for vocal recognition prefering to tap away as the activity assisted in post cryo-recovery. As the door slid open a display showed directions to her billet; glancing at the image Lee wove her way to the assignrd billet stowed her gear changed into Standard Opp 2 Uniform, downed a 600ml of rehydration fluid while She was in need of replenishing her depleted reserves with several high yield food packs. Slipping the packs into the food processing device which reconstituted and heated them she watched as they filled out and become more appealing. After finishing the meals she tidied up and headed to the opeations area to report for duty.

To her surprise Lee found she didn't just have a bunk assigned to her, but actually a small appartment. All ranking officers had one. It was small, and contained only the basic bed, chair and table, a small kitchen and shower, but it was a place to call home. Also, it had closets, so she could stow her gear.

"You! Why you at Yuri's pod?"
Tech sergeant Kong-We comes pacing at him, long strides intent on intercepting him before he reaches the barracks.
"I do not know why or how you wake up first, but Yuri number 1. When he wake, you will shut big mouth! I remember you! Wargames, india 2040. You good pilot. Hotshot. Yuri calm, calculated. You lucky you win. Yuri had off day. You leave him be!"

Its a damn good thing i got out here?.. the bloody 3rd  engine is all bent like... so.. we've been getting pushed to the  bloody port, the whole time the engine was  fired up....

Now..the bleedin' yelling? Well.. on the Adelaile.. we  treated   our ground  folks  the ebst we bloody knew how... cause we know they have a hard  job..me?.. i can fix most stuff in my cockpit... but  not the engines... never  studied that deep....

His  jaws  work a bit  as he looks  down the  hall, then back,..so?.. when i get disrepected, by a non-com...when part of the reason i'm going out there, is  ta make sure we all don't die..well ... I ain't letting no bloody Drongo treat me like an bloody alf!

reaching inside his jacket it  and pulls out his notepad  and pen and  Writes Hanschel's name down,This  Bloke?.. He got me out the doors  so I could  do the Bloody Job I wanted to do....

...didn't bloody help that  Maxwell thinks  i'm a bleedin'  drongo meslef now.. after wanting to check  to see if the guy in yuri's Pod...is...Yuir?

"I know her pretty well. I helped develop her. That is, I advised on the civilian parts of it. Come, walk with me," he turns and leads Shadow through the hallway a couple doors down, entering a larger appartment. There he drops on a chair and offers Shadow one. Its a nice appartment, easily fitting a family in size.

"I advised on CS-6 and CS-7 too, but wasn't interested back when they left in joining them." He opens the cabinet above the table he is sitting at, removing two glasses and a bottle of scotch. The aroma as he opens it betrays its strength. Not too strange, as its nearly 140 years old.

"When my wife died in 2033 I decided I had no reason to stay on earth, so I opted to join the Polo. They made me morale officer just to get me a rank."
As he fills the two glasses he sighs. After a pause and a sip he continues.

"Now, I'm no soldier, and I don't claim to know everything, but I think when Timochev wakes up, you and him, you need to have a sit down. I'll let you in on a little secret. Kong-We, the techie... She's about as brilliant as they come. She's probably the one on this ship that knows her best of all, and she didn't even help build her. The girl is just a miracle when it comes to technical stuff... but... she is also very much damaged goods. 115 years of cryo still don't fix heartache you know..."
He stands up, walking around his appartment a bit.

"That number 19 you are flying... It wasn't meant for you when the squadron was put together. It was Steffan Pirrinen's jet. Or at least it was supposed to be. He has 18 now. The original pilot for 18 died four weeks before departure. You might have heard of him. Thomas Yuen. Chinese fighter pilot."
The name did indeed ring a bell. Even in australia the pilots talked about the guy. He was supposed to be a real prodigy. Untill he crashed into the pacific and was declared dead. Heck, Shadow had even been part of a search party looking for the wreckage.

"Yuen was Kong-We's fiancé. You are here in his place."

Jan emptied his glass, waiting for Shadow to soak up his words.

"What hangar 4? We have a hangar 4?" Vanderbeek looks genuinly baffled. "Nah, no way. There's no hangar 4. Not to my knowledge. But like I said, I was a part of the design for the civilian sections. You should ask the captain, or maybe Timochev once he wakes up. Once you find out, let me know. "
He fills his glass again.
"Or ask Kong-we. I'm sure she'll know."

"Anyway, as I was saying. You took the place of her fiancé. Or at least thats how most will see it. I'm sure thats how she sees it. I remember her being fully against haviing Yuen replaced. Those pilots had been training together for four months. She was afraid having a new pilot in the team would screw with the status quo. Timochev pulled Lu through the darkness. When Lee returns she finds the diagnostics still running. Despite knowing that there is a hacker active, M4RC0 seems unable to pinpoint the location of the hack. Whoever is inside his sytems is good. Very good.
Diagnostics do tell her that said hacker is not changing or deleting programs though. Rather, the person inside M4RC0's coding is trying to find lost data. Recover it.

"Weren't you Roo boys in Singapore, 2029. For Red Flag? Probably not yourself, you'd have been too young, but I met a Captain Jones there, great pilot. Great tolerance for beer too. Last I heared they gave him a squadron. How's he doing these days?"
Then, realising that was a stupid question after 115 years of cryo, he sighed.
"Never mind that... I guess its in the past now. We left all that behind eh?"

"Yeah... checking the mail..." Ascott sighs aloud again. "Just did that meself. Was terrible."
He absently turns around his spork in his meal, drifting his gaze out into the adjoining hallway for a second.
"Seems we lost contact with earth in 2061. At least thats when the mails stop. We are indeed the lost Marco Polo as you said. My daughter kept mailing me every week at first, then every month... Said she had the feeling I was still with her when she did. Earth saw us pass by Alpha Centauri, tried waking the crew remotely. It failed. We were written off and declared dead in 2052, ten years after we got lost.
But hey, she graduated that year. Became a children's doctor."

There's an infinite sadness in the Major's voice.

Noticing Colt Jordan coming in he stands up to greet him personally.
"Good afternoon young man. It's nice to see they are waking civilians too. Welcome to the mess hall. It's nothing fancy, and will not beat the restaurants on the recreations deck, but untill those will be opened up, there is not much else we can do."
He quickly taps away at a personal notepad. Then he swipes it past Colt's wrist.
"Ah yes, Colt Jordan. It is good I we speak now. It saves either of us from finding the other later. The appartment assigned to you is at deck 22, appartment 36. You will find it has all the essentials for a single man to live comfortably. If you require anything you can always come and see me, as Chief Morale officer I'm assigned to the Polo to make all civilians as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately not enough are awake to justify depressurising Recreational yet. But no worries, we are but a day awake. It will all change soon, I assume."

After Colt filled up his plate with all of the essentials, he sat down at an empty table and began to try out the different foods. His stomach had been waiting for this meal for a long time. "Good job on the repair crew Lieutenant. I hear the job went smoothly."
Tossing all the different foods together he creates a sort of mash and starts to work it down quickly. Between bites he continues, "The reason I wanted to speak to you is this. I understand you want those fighters checked out and active, and I'm glad you are passionate about that, but at the moment they are not considered a priority. As such, I cannot spare any more engineers than I already have, and I would much prefer not having to worry about my sole pilot and my chief engineer to pull each other's hairs out. I've talked to Lu, and as far as she's concerned there is no problem between you two as long as you stay out of her way."
He shrugs as he chews a particular tough piece of meat.
"So do me a favor will you... Tie down that Ozzy temperament and cut her some slack. She'll come around once she's worked through some personal stuff. 115 years of sleep don't suddenly erase a personal loss that feels like just 4 weeks ago. Hanschel informed me your number 19 is good to go and in top shape. He's now working on the four spare jets. Take those out as soon as he is done, let Lu do her thing on the rest. She'll let you know once you can test those."
With the meat finally gone he gulps down some tea.
"Now, since you are the flyboy here, and I know little about those things... I'd like your personal opinion on the Hellcat."

"Yes, I heard about that. It was actually one of the reasons Timochev wanted you on board. Personally I thought it a stupid move. Stuff like that ruins careers..." Ascott grins. "I've seen your file. You could have been a captain already, if not for stupid jokes like that. I don't like those jokes on my watch." His face turns stern. He pauses a moment to get his point across.

"We do not know if anything is out here. As big as the galaxy is, one should assume we are not alone. Who knows, we might be way out of our league here. Thats why they upgraded the Hellcats and made sure we had them. Like you said, its the best we have. Now, as for the void missiles... You have tried them in an atmosphere. You had the same judgement all the other pilots had... Worthless pieces of crap. Untill they actually used them for what they were designed for. Out here, in space. Tell you what, soon as Hanschel is done on the #20, i'll have him load up four missiles and send out some drones. Try em in space, see if you still think they suck. The other pilots all had to agree they were far better than they expected."

Ascott stood up and placed his tray on the cleaning cart. Straightening his jacket he looked Shadow in the eyes a long moment, leaning in on the table to emphasise his words.
"For the record Lieutenant, i'll let you in on a little secret. Lets not bullshit each other. I think you're a good guy. I do. But I advised command not to take you along. I consider you a liability because of your inquisitive nature. Curiosity kills cats and all that. Also I think you are reckless. Command told me to adjust, they trusted Timochev's judgement. He wanted you in, so you were in. The captain seems a fan of you too. He doesn't see any need to wake the other pilots yet, and he considers you suitable for the current tasks. And I'm sure out there, you are good. Your files show that much. Better than most if I am to believe it all. Still I think he's taking a gamble on you. I much prefer discipline. Don't prove to them I'm right, okay? Sometimes I prefer being wrong."

He makes his way to the door. In the door opening he turns around and looks at Kray again. His smile has returned now, along with a twinkle in his eyes.

"Don't just sit there Lieutenant, lets go. You want to be inquisitive? Lets go see hangar 4."

Barracks section

<< From: Ship Security

Entering the mess hall in the barracks section of the ship was like stepping into another world. Perhaps that's why Lou insisted on it; trying to put the woman off balance. But if that was her goal... well, she wasn't entirely unsuccessful. As she gathered up her food Micaela wondered if the effect would have been more pronounced if it wasn't all half empty. Personnel moving all around her might have been even more intimidating, but without the distraction the operator was forced to see the space for what it was... a war machine.

Micaela was sufficiently unnerved that she didn't try to join any of the other small groups that had formed in the clinical space. And once she was seated she started speaking to the ship.

"Marco, what can you tell me about the crew that's currently awake? Verbal response only needs to be high level. The specifics you can transmit to my rig. In particular, I would like to better understand what information is available and unavailable to me given my clearance level."

After a direct response in her earpiece, the woman finished her meal and headed to her quarters to partake in her military ordered R&R.

Major Tom dropped in his chair with a sigh, cursing the hunk of steel that was CS-8. The former SAS operative felt at home at most places, from the cold waters of the artic to the hot damp jungles of southern america, but he would never get used to being locked up in a hunk of steel. Not even one as huge as the Marco Polo.
Ales, a job was a job, and there was no way he would have turned down orders. Not 120 years ago, not today. So with another sigh he started up his desk console, pulling up personel files. He had just opened one when the buzzer on his door went off.

"Come in!"

The door slid open with a soft hiss, allowing Lee Jay Musashi to enter.
"Major, can I have a word with you?"

"Sure, have a seat," Ascott gestured at the chair in front of him. "What can I do for you?"

"You can get me reassigned," she stated bluntly. "My place is not in medical. I should be doing molecular research, not looking at foreign cells that for all I know could be a side effect of cryosleep."

The major looked at her, puzzled.
"I have no idea what you are talking about miss." he stated blankly.

"Genassi has me studying some cells he found in blood samples of some radiation victim..."

"His name is Patterson."

"Of Patterson then. Doc thinks its alien, and I'm inclined to agree, but medical research is not my thing. I have no idea what to do with living cells."

"You are a molecular engineers you say?"

"Yes!" she snapped at him, "Living multi-cell organisms are not my thing. Medical is not my place."

"So then kill those cells and study their molecules. Sheesh, how hard can that be to figure out." Ascott snarled. "Look, I don't want to be on this tub, you don't want to be in medical, tough luck. We have to do what we have to do. So get back to medical and assist Genassi where needed."

"But... I..." Musashi began a stammered reply.

"Now!" Ascott stood up and slammed his fist down on his desk. "Get out of my office!"

Jen entered the mess hall.  The line was a bit long, what with everyone looking to have breakfast after the session at the gym.  The security officer waited her turn with the rest of the people.  She was rewarded for her patience with something resembling eggs, hash browns, sausage patties, and toast.  She helped herself to coffee and orange juice before sitting down at an empty table to begin eating.

Edit:

Jenni had thought that someone might sit with her, but the black security jumpsuit had once again held people at a distance.  She finished her meal quickly, took the tray back to the collection area, and headed off to work.

From: Medical facilities

Danny arrived in the Mess Hall around 7:20 or so, and saw lots of people moving about, for him this was good, because maybe he could meet some nice people here.

Danny was very good at starting conversations with people, in fact the way he started them was the best way there was, in fact it was so straight forward most people either avoided it, or hadn't used it since they were kids.

Danny however, was always able to pull it off.

Danny walks up to the serving area, and greets the people serving with the way he always does; "Hi, I'm Danny. It would be great to see you again, if your ever upset or want to be with a good friend, you can come see me" He adds a genuine smile at the end.

Like most people, the server thinks he's weird and gives him some food and lets him on his way

Danny is used to this, most people protect themselves from these things because it's not normal for humans, for some odd reason, to be able to walk up to eachother share kind words, and be friends for the rest of their lives, who every day make eachother want to live even if they were both limbless cripples who were allergic to oxygen.

Danny was the kind of person who could take more emotional pain than anyone else, and the way he normally recieved it? Rejection. It's not their faults, Danny was more evolved in the sense of caring and empathy.

He kept saying the same things but most people shot him down, or walked away eerily.

"There 's got to be somebody who will accept me" he said quietly, mostly for anyone who might be listening, not realy upset yet at all.

After a while Danny sat down at an empty table, all the other ones were full with a group of friends, some of the tables looked like they'd kick him if he looked funny at them.

"High school all over again..." he added for himself.

Danny started eating his food, all the while smiling at everyone he saw, waiting for someone who would sit down with him.

"Young master Chambers I believe?"

The voice was soft, soothing, belonging to a distinguished looking gentleman that carried himself with regal posture. As he sat down he gave a friendly nod to some others in the mess hall before introducing himself.

"Jan VanderBeek. Morale officer, cook, vagebond. Ship designer, makeshift soldier, comedian. That about sums up my qualifications I think. At the moment I run this place, that is untill I get the captain to get the rec-deck fully up and operational. When that happens we will return this messy mess to the soldiers. Us civilians have our own decks. Unfortunately he won't as of yet, too many people still asleep."

He took a small nip of a cup of brew he had carried with him, savouring the taste.
"So, master Chambers, I take it Marco woke you up on a fluke like he did the other civilians. How would you like to make yourself usefull anyway even when there are only soldiers awake?"

Drago followed the directions to the mess hall that Miss Connolly had given him, he had passed no one on his walk here and had began to wonder if there was anyone else in the barracks section. But as he got closer to the mess hall he could here the sounds of various conversations drifting down the hallway, turning and entering the mess hall he was glad to see several people in the room. He quickly acquired himself a drink and small try of food and looked for a place to sit and eat. Stopping at a table where a rather distiguished aristocratic looking gentleman and blonde gentleman were talking, "Good day gentlemen, would you mind if I joined you? I have never been much for eating alone. Conversation always makes a meal more palatable."

"Absolutely, oh yeah great job jumping into action on the injured dude, did you manage to get his name? I wanted to check on him, maybe I'll do that after breakfast..." Danny said.

in response to Drago msg #92:

"Woah! Cool, Drago is a way cooler name than Danny"

he said with much emphasis on both names.

"Whenever I think of my name, I think of a little fat kid standing there crying to his mommy cause he dropped his puddinh", Danny said. After he realised how weird he was sounding, "um..." desperately trying to save his failed attempt, he said "When I think of Drago, I'm all like WOAH that guy's gotta sla dragons and ride a griffin amirite?", Danny then continued in a deep commanding voice: "GET BACK TO WEEDING, PEAZANT!!", Danny continues to mutter stupid stuff for a while, and the says "Im probably just hungry, I love talking with friends" said Danny.

That's just like Danny, assume the person you just met is your best friend, until they brutally attack you a few times then they are probs not liking you.

Danny eventually pulled the conversation from the crap pit, and actually had a good talk with the people sitting with him.

In a way, Danny was less mature then the fat kid he thinks of often, because he is very trusting.

Danny thought a few time these people were thinking he was more of a highschool outcast then a 28 year old man with 2 master degrees.

At around 9 the captain's voice comes over the comms, warning people the Polo will be casting off. Sure enough, a moment later a slight shiver runs through the vessel, indicating the engines going at full power. Just a ripple on coffee is all Drago notices of the starting motion. Sure enough the Hawking field does its job, keeping gravity up and running and the forward motion of the ship indiscernable.

Its 9 am, and the Marco Polo is en route to the unknown, almost all its crew busy and hard at work.
That, Drago does notice, as he is almost the only person around. Two more men a couple tables over, and a young woman at the far end of the mess, her eyes red from crying. The kitchen staff works hard cleaning up the mess while Morale Officer Jan VanderBeek supervises their work.

It is calm, quiet. Almost too quiet, giving Drago a sense of foreboding of dangers to come he cannot quite shake off. There are no grounds for it, and yet the feeling is there. Where are they going to end up?

Seeing Shadow enter the pilots immediately move over to allow him a seat at the table. For them it seems only normal that a member of their squadron, even one they hardly know yet, sits with them. The Frenchman waves him over, indicating for Shadow to come sit next to him.

"Bonjour Shadow,"
he begins with a grin, the pirate hat resting crooked on his head. "I am Quatorze, Henri Quatorze. Fourteen I believe it is in English. But you can call me HQ like the others do. I lead flight two. I hear Timochev has given you the three flight. Who will be your wingmen? Or has that not been discussed yet? Stay away from our Belgian and Dutch friends here, they are mine."

He points at the two pilots opposite him. A rather young belgian man and a decidedly butch dutch female both greet him with a half smile.
"Not that we had any say in it," lieutenant Van Abdijen, the dutch pilot, immediately replies.

"Oh come now mon cheri," Quatorze laughs, "You know you love me."

From across the table Lieutenant Hagen nearly chokes in his sandwich.
"You see what we have to put up with leutnant? Earth's finest, what a bunch we are right?"
All of them laugh, exchanging casuals and jokes.
If they feel any resentment or reserve towards Shadow, they clearly don't show.

"I see your point, though to play the devils advocate I can also see their reasons. I am guessing that the captain believes by awakening the military personnel that he will have less trouble and will hopefully find a habitable planet to start a colony. If finding a habitable world takes longer than expected waking up a few as necessary to keep the ship functioning as existing crew die off or become infirm. Of course that is just conjecture and could be the farthest thing from the actual reasons." Drago sighed and smiled slightly, "Well enough of the gloomy talk, surely there is something on such a large ship we can find to occupy our time and brighten our days."

"That was him?" HQ looked up in disbelief. "You pulled that inverted loop on him? I'm sure the RAN reprimanded you for that, no? That was not daring, that was plain reckless."

"Coming from Frenchie here thats actually a compliment," Mfikelele laughed.

Meanwhile Timochev had joined the crew at the long table, listening in on the conversation. He didn't reply, he just observed, content his men and women were bonding as they should.

"That was no compliment Shaka," the pirate lookalike replied, leaning in to emphasise his words, "I know I am reckless at times, but that move had been way too aggressive. However," He looks up at Vanderbeek with a serious expression, not the kind to suggest anger, more so worry then anything. She stopped to ask two passersby where Vanderbeek was, resting the weight on her shoulders on a nearby table. They pointed her to a table situated a few rows away. "It is hard to get good staff these days sir," a man in fancy garb grinned as Aoppigan shouted out.
"Jan VanderBeek," he stated as he extended a hand in greeting. "Chief morale officer, and currently the chef in this here food joint. You will find most marines occupied at the moment, but feel free to grab a seat and have some chow."
He gestured for one of the benches lining the long tables of the mess hall. All around people were having dinner, almost all of them in military garb. Some civilians sat at a table in the back, looking a bit confused at their predicament.
"If there is anything I can help you with don't hesitate to ask."

"Sounds like you will need all the energy you can get soon enough."
Chief Morale Officer Jan VanderBeek grins as he gently leads Apple to the nearest table. Sitting down opposite the combat medic he fumbles for his datapad, reading a message.

"Yes, untill we wake up the civilians we use the barracks mess hall as a cafeteria. People do need to eat." He shrugs in a what-can-we-do gesture.
"We have a full military staff awake, most if not all cryosleepers left are civilians, and untill we figure out what the hell is going on, the Captain thinks it is better to keep them in cryo. Less of a hassle. Personally, I'd like to see everyone woken up, but thats just me. I'm sure the quartermaster will assign you some equipment when needed, all your personal belongings you can find in your assigned quarters. Appartment 47, barracks level 3 according to my data. As a medic I can be called on for sudden emergencies at any time of day or night, for military or civilian situations. War wounds, broken legs, radiation burns are like child birth happening whenever they choose. Simple enough to pull a kit of bandages but consider that the pharmaceuticals have to taken out of different preservation chambers.

You are right on getting food energy so let me grab portable things. Got any apples?"

He chuckles.

Geoffry laughs.

"Well so long as they aren't old."

He takes a trio of apples then makes off for the armory at a fast walk.

Even with preloaded lists, automation and fetcher carts it will take him a good while to collect a working set of gear. Weapons are never just assumed to work needing partial disassembly and test shots at the range.

His hard armor was adjusted for personal fit. As he had said he also needed to access various medications to bring his medic's satchel up to proper inventory. Standard marine pouches for survival and ammunition carry.

His rifle, the bullpup SA-80X, was standard for the troops. Around the sights he offset mounts a x2 reflex sight to one side. There wasn't a lot of time to dial this in properly but he could get it close at the range. When he had more time improving it was definitely on the to do list.

He drew a Kukri curved knife though it wasn't his preference. He had his own styles among his personal belongings. Still it did a lot of good work. Drawing a knife bayonet for the rifle made him feel better. He looked at his boots and laughed. Maybe later he'd have a knife in one too.

With talk of mutiny and radiation poisoning he clips on a pair of emergency suits. The kind that badly fit just about everybody. A gieger counter, dosimeter and a vial of radiation pills are packed in.

For a pistol it was to ye olde reliable 9mm automatic. With its multiple safety features it was safe to carry or drop.

"Marco, what is the current marine policy on explosive and smoke ordnance?"

"He'll tell you we carry them on missions only," a voice came from the next line of weapon racks. A man clad in the same type of hard armour came over to Geoffry. "Ascott don't want people walking about with stuff that can ruin this vessel in no time. I'm Will. Corporal Willem Schepenaers fully. Shuttle Dorsal gunner."

"Canadian huh?" the man concludes, seeing the flag on Apple's left shoulder. He himself has a red white and blue flag, either luxembourgh or Netherlands.
"Medic? Or evac flyer?" He grabs a few ammunition clips from the crates next to Appigan, then tosses a few others to several more marines trickling in to arm themselves.
"Who would have thought we'd find CS-3... That thing was considered lost forever."
He then shrugs. "Then again, so are we probably."

Appigan nods to the man barely pausing in his equipment checks.

"Yeah, figured. That's why I thought to ask. Was hoping to carry smokers though. Still, a general policy on per mission explosives of any type is understandable. No risk of someone slipping out the wrong thing."

He listens to the man finish.

"Medevac and cargo flights. 5,000 colonists is small city. Once started colonizing they wouldn't just be in one spot either. There would surely be outlaying farms, mining, drilling and exploration stations. Incidents might happen anywhere across our new globe. Plus the white coats figure that if there isn't an emergency the shuttle can fly out homesteading gear and bring back the whatever those outposts are producing."

He checks over the magazine issued with his rifle. Each one has a bullet slid out then pushed back in confirming the strength of the spring.

"CS-3 yeah. I guess if you've got someone with you then at least your not both lost and lonely."

He laughs.

"My call sign's Apple. Chances are you'll be paired with me. Ready to head to the hanger and check on our bird?"

The mess hall was unusually quiet for the time of evening, most marines readied for an eventual boarding of CS-3. Still, most tables held at least some people, both military and civilian, with VanderBeek trying to talk to everyone at least for a few moments.

As Eric Whitechapel fell in line for some food behind Mike, Mikoto Mishada, diva extraordinaire, started making a fuss over at the counter. it seemed the food was not to her liking today.

Lisa continued waiting for the line to move. Mikoto Mishada was throwing some temper tantrum or something and holding things up. Well, she did have a reputation for being a diva. Even her time as an actress had clued her into that fact. She vaguely wondered if the woman would remember her. Probably not. She didn't really expect most people to know who she was though. It wasn't important here.

She glanced over at Mike, the guy who had fallen in line behind there. "Hi there. I'm Lisa, and we'll apparently be weathering this latest drama together," she commented with a slight grin at him. Really, some people made mountains out of the stupidest molehills. "Good to meet you." She could tell he was a civilian too, based on his appearance. Well, either that or he literally was a military guy who was just thawed out she supposed.

Played She-Hulk in the movies. Though I dare say that around here that's not the profession I'll end up taking on, at least not for awhile. Resettlement doesn't require new movies to be made." Which was, perhaps, something that some people on the ship didn't realize. The old fame didn't really matter all that much here.

As they all got closer to the food counters they noticed that even though they were eating in a barracks mess hall, there was a wide variety of food. One might even call it a small buffet, with several meats, vegetables, potatoes and pastas. "Can you believe that," Whitechapel mentioned, more to himself than anyone in particular. "All these choices, and she's still not satisfied?" He looks at Danny, a slight worried look on his face. "Man, are we supposed to beat this for food?"

Meanwhile VanderBeek's socialising had found his way over to the line. The immaculately dressed, somewhat dandy morale officer stopped as he notices Lisa Sky, looking her up appreciatively.
"Now there is a young woman I have not met yet." He steps over, extending his hand in greeting, then pressing a gentleman's kiss on the top of Lisa's hand.
"Jan VanderBeek, CMO. I seem to be running day to day civilian affairs. Not a hard task with so little civilians awake I must add." He smiles warmly.

In the back of the hall once again Mikoto Mishida is throwing a tantrum. A young ensign holding a tray stares sheepishly at the ground as she rages, a bowl of soup all over the table she was sitting at.

"You must be Lisa Sky, She-hulk. I must say your social media pictures did not do your beauty justice. Although I had expected you taller."

VanderBeek shrugs as he too notices the ruckuss. He then nods at the others in line.
"Gentlemen. I trust you can show this young lady around for a bit. I will drop by your table later for a chat. I must attend to Miss Mishida's needs first it seems."

Lisa overheard Whitechapel's comments about the food and nodded in agreement, even if she wasn't in that particular conversation right now. Some people were pretty fussy eaters. Lisa had her requirements, but she wasn't fussy about exactly what food it was she ate. She'd traveled a lot and that meant learning how to not have a delicate tongue when it came to food.

Her thoughts were interrupted by Jan's approach, however. It was a little hard to tell if Jan was flirting with her or not, but Lisa certainly couldn't find fault with the guy's confidence. "A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Vanderbeek, and thank you," Lisa replied to his compliment about her looks. "Perhaps I'll have some time to work on my photography skills since I did bring my equipment along." She didn't comment on the height remark. She was six feet and eight inches tall; she figured he had to be joking a little bit. Heck, even the She-Hulk character was an inch shorter in the comics, from what she remembered of her character research.

"Good luck," she said to the CMO as he left to go deal with Mishida. Lisa didn't envy him one little bit. Still, she supposed that if the diva didn't calm down she'd walk over and calm her down.
