Beyond Infinity

"If the galaxy around us is, indeed, infinite, we must go beyond it to save humanity!"

                     - UN Secretary Ramos Aibembe, 2032 -

Welcome to Beyond Infinity.
Below, you will find all you need to know to get up and running is this game of action and adventure, to go beyond the stars themselves and see if humanity has a chance to survive itself. Do we really adapt? Or do we perish? How far will humanity go to ensure its survival?
How far will you go to ensure yours?
As passengers and crew of the CS-8 Marco Polo the players will set out into the unknown. They will go to infinity and beyond, to find a new place for humanity, or to die in the process.

The background of Beyond Infinity

In 2024, a german scientist named Karl Hermann Schweitzer discovered a brand new and daring way to tackle propulsion in space. Based on previous research by several reknowned scientists, he perfected a fusion/wave drive based on the same simple principles as a microwave, but harnessing and directing the energy instead to use as a means of propelling space ships. Dubbed the F/W Schweitzer drive, this propulsion system was quickly adapted by european and asian aeronautic companies, each trying to be the first to actually launch a passenger flight into earth's orbit.
In 2026, EuroSPace Engineering were the first to succeed, using the F/W drive to power a small vessel capable of transporting 150 people. Their maiden flight, Berlin to Berlin around the world , set a new speed record for passenger flights, with just 59 minutes.
The race for space was born.

In 2029 Japanese seismologists discovered that the impact by their still leaking Fukushima reactor was much worse than they had assumed so far. Their research showed that the earth's core was slowly but steadily increasing in temperature, a rise caused by radioactive oceans incapable of diluting these temperatures. They calculated the increasing rise, and compared it to the impact it had on the earth's ecosystem, and concluded that within eighty to a hundred years, the core would overheat, and the earth most likely explode.

The race for space just became more important than ever. A global pact was made, with all countries except the United States vowing to work together and find a solution. Where the united states put their efforts into trying to fix the broken planet, the newly created Global Nation Alliance, GNA, set out on a different path.

In 2031 the first of seven colony ships was started. With the W/F drive capaple of reaching near light speed, this ship would be able to quickly traverse known space, looking for any planet capable of supporting humanity. Newly built docks in orbit around earth were constantly supplied with the materials to build these 1.3 kilometer long vessels, and a lottery was issued world-wide to find the first 1000 deep space travellers. Their mission, to find a new place for humanity to live.

CS Hopefull departed on her voyage in 2033, the first one of seven that would be built. On board were scientists, military personell, artisans, artists, civilians. Each one of them said farewell to earth, knowing they would never see it again.

Now, in 2036, we have still to recieve word of any of the colony ships. So far none have sent back any transmissions. None have given signs of life. With the fates of the seven unknown, CS-8 Marco Polo, new in its class and design, embarks on its mission.
Onboard, 5000 people, all held in cryogenic stasis as the ship sets out to its mission coordinates. Fully automated it sets out towards it's goal, only to wake it's passengers when it arrives. It will be five or six years before she reaches Alpha Centauri. From there, her next destination will be decided, depending on the assumed presence of CS-1 and CS-2.
