Cryo Chambers

Slowly, rubbing the long sleep and the weariness from his eyes, Jan VanderBeek sat up in his cryo pod. Flexing his muscles to make sure the cryo fluids hadn't damaged him, he tried to climb out of his pod. As number 3088 he was up on the third layer, so he had to be carefull not immediately dropping from the walkway to the floor five meters below him.

Looking around, he noticed another opened pod. Also third layer. They were waking up civilians now? Good, that meant there was a colony to be established.

A bit surprised he hadn't been amongst the first to be woken up, he made his way down the walkway to the decontamination showers, not even bothering to take the grey jumpsuit with him. There would be another one for him once he had showered.

"Marco, been a while, could you give me an update on the goings on of the ship?"

He flicked his wrist past the shower door sensors.
Nothing.
And why was it this dark in here anyway?

"Marco?"

Cursing he made his way back up to put some clothes on.

"About bloody time godverdomme... Marco, what's going on?"
Jan moves towards the showers, getting the cryo washed from him. AFter he refreshes himself he moves back to the cryo chamber, pacing the first few rows. At pod CP-0001 he stops.

"Marco, I'm looking at Captain Dorn here. Why is he still asleep? Why is most of the crew still in pods? Who's in charge?"

Good morning Jan VanderBeek. I suffered a malfunction, hence the correct order of waking failed. Currently in charge is acting captain Jennifer Maxwell. You will find her on the bridge. Sequences have been started to wake up captain and crew, they will be up in a few hours. Have a pleasant day.

"Jennifer who?" VanderBeek scours his memory. After the cryo he must still be somewhat dazed, as the name doesn't ring any bells. Ofcourse he had not been a part of selecting the military part of the crew, so that wasn't too surprising.

"Marco, any civilians awake? What malfunction did you suffer anyways?"

He had to figure stuff out fast. He quickly decided where to go first.

From:  Bridge

Acting Captain Maxwell exited the turbolift from the Bridge.  She made her way to the closest of the unassigned cryo pods, number CP-125.  The perps may have gotten away, but there was still the question on what made this pod and the other three pods worth killing for.  The detective began to examine the cryo pod.

Jennifer finds the pod quickly enough. As the number indicates its in the front few rows, amongst the 500 to officially be awoken first. The military staff and the ship crew. Its a pod like all others, but its opened, and empty. The compartment below it still holds the grey jumper and the slippers, indicating whoever had been in here once, had not used those. A quick check revealed little else.

A thorough investigation reveals a single hair besides the headpiece of the pod. Most likely the occupant's. Jennifer also finds that her own pod is just nine places over. She had completely missed this open pod before. Unless you stood directly in front of a pod you didn't even notice its open.

Jen left the hair where it was.  She didn't have any way of preserving the evidence.  She smiled to herself.  One down... Three to go.  The next closest cryo pod was another military assigned unit, CP-477.  Jen headed that way and gave the unit a quick once over before going into it in more detail.

Maxwell stopped after the second unit.  She spent a moment gathering her thoughts.  "We have four supposedly unassigned cryo pods which held people.  We have three people gone and one corpse.  One of the perps must have wiped the computer records to hide their identities before they left."  Jen decided that she had done enough investigating for the moment.

Jen headed to the decontamination showers to wash the accumulated hundred years of whatever off of her body and draw her initial uniform from the supply point.

Blake draws a uniform, and steps into the shower unit. They have full body hot air dryers, it's heavenly. Eventually, he steps out and heads up to the barracks.

Jen used her chip to get her initial uniform from the automated issue point.  It made sense, no one would be awake to issue the newly awakened their initial attire.  She took the vacuum sealed package with her into the chamber.

Minutes later, still glowing from the hot water and the whole body air drier, Jen emerged in her black security jumpsuit, dressed as she should be for duty.  The paper and the pistol were both tucked into her pockets.  The gray jumpsuit was in the recycle bin, probably to be used as prison wear in its next life.  Now, it was time to finish getting dressed.

Shaking the dizzyness from his burly frame former submariner Blake Dorn makes his way to the decontamination showers. While washing the century of sleep away he listens to M4RC0-P010 giving him an update on the current situation. Much to his surprise he hears they passed by Alpha Centauri 115 years earlier, and are currently in the middle of nowhere.
Waiting for Major Ascott, who had gone to the hold already, to show up with his gear Dorn pondered his next move.

As he put on his khaki uniform and closed his belt he came to a simple conclusion. The mission would go on, even though they were nowhere close to their original destination. He had Marco put his voice up on all the speakers.

This is captain Blake Dorn speaking. All awakened personell, meet me in the conference room below the bridge in ten minutes. No exceptions.

Followed closely by the Major he made his way to the bridge.

Sounds of movement about the area were the first things she heard when she woke. Lee was stiff, sore and hungrier that a crock in a Chinese restaurant. Spending time with flexing and relaxing as she'd been drilled all the while staring at the top of the Cryo tube Lee listened to the Captains announcement. Slipping from the tube she slipped on allocated garments then headed to the Barracks.

Colt awoke with a peculiar look on his face. It felt like he'd woken up from a dream with absolutely no idea where he was. A few seconds of thinking and acclimating reminded him of where he was and why he was here. Spaceship. Colony. New planet. Being the first person to drive a ground vehicle on the surface of a planet not in the Solar System. A smile grew on his face as he recalled the offer that they had made him. That was when he realized how sore he was. It felt like his entire body had just had the most intense workout of his life, yet it was stiff as if he had not moved in years. Well, that part had some justification.

Colt exited the Cryo pod and looked down at himself. While he wasn't ashamed of himself, au natural was probably frowned upon in this particular establishment. He struggled with the jumpsuit, trying to put it on without causing his aching muscles too much pain. When he finally got it on, he started walking forward, his balance a little bit off. As he really got his footing, the excitement of it all caught up with him. The adrenaline starting pumping through him. He was making history and being a part of this dangerous mission. A smile lit up his face as he marched into the showers. He peeled off the jumpsuit, his soreness now taking a backseat to his excitement. The hot shower eased the pain out of his muscles, though he heeded the sign and made the shower quick. After using the drier to purge every last drop of water from his body, he put on the jumpsuit and headed out, deciding medical was likely his best bet to start.

He moved through the ship quickly, this was  as much   to sooth his own unease, as it was to  help the ship., At worse, he made  Maxwell take a short hike..at best.....well...he'd have to see about that.

Looking for the Number.. he finally stopped   in front of Pod 86...He looked at the face, to see if it was who he thought it was supposed to be.

He  shakes his head,...look.. i went outside... found that the  ship has a wee bit of damage to the engine..they  are gonna have to  fix it for us to fly right, or go without  that 3 engine..

According to Marco... this  fellow here is supposed to be Yuri Timochev... He is supposed to be the Commander of the fighter..i ..guess..anyway?.. me and him have had run-ins of sorts since   I started to climb the  rankings  in the international war games  and such.... Now?  Me Mates say, i'm a bit paranoid..jealous even?  but I don't think he  beat  me on points, 'cause of skill...

Now?..it could be dumb luck, that i was awake  before this dingo...'cause he ain't never did a bloody thing, that didn't help himself...now? there is no bloody way in the 9 hells..he wasn't get awaken  before me...what i want ta know... is there a way, we can test  the body? If its him..fine.... but if its not him..a Bleedin eastern bloc hero would be a good choice  to fly folks out...

Being more then a little aware of how  he sounds, and the way he had snapped at Wung-we...he new he  had to   get some sleep soon.. but he had to know if this was Yuri..or not.

Lt. Maxwell took a deep breath, then let it out slowly before answering.  "One.  If this Yuri guy is both as selfish and as highly respected as you claim, don't you think he would have done his absolute best to get off of a dying planet?  Two.  The conspirators left over a hundred years ago.  Don't you think they would have taken their pilot with them when they left?  Three.  What evidence do you have, other than not liking this Timochev, to accuse him?"

Jen looked at the man who had helped save the Marco Polo.  He looked and sounded like a madman.  "Listen very carefully.  If you break open this or any other cryo pod to get a tissue sample in order to test someones DNA, you will kill that person.  I will come after you.  I will find you.  I will arrest you.  And, if you resist, I might have to kill you.  Do you understand me, Lieutenant Shadow?  Do you really understand what I am saying?"

..bloody 'ells...it just don't seem like  I'd be popped out before him...even if ya don't include the rank and such?

Throwing up his hands he says,Marco said..this is him in this pod...but?...I  mean...

Shaking his head, he walks towards the doors,..never mind.... it was...just a hunch.... oh?  yah..Engine  has  a broken part too... he waves  as he  heads   to the doors, and   to go to his quarters...maybe he just needed  sleep...

Maxwell ventured, "Do you think I would have been anyone's first choice to command a colony ship in an emergency?"  She wasn't sure that Kray had heard her, though.  Jen wasn't sure if Kray was listening to anyone but himself.

The Detective moved to the first pod on her list.  She recalled crudely poking around in the two pods earlier.  She realized that she must have been suffering from some kind of freezer burn to not have worn gloves or used a collection kit.  This time, she used the magnifying glass to check the interior surface for hairs.  She used the mini-vac with a clean filter trap to vacuum the interior surface for dead skin cells.  She went over the cryo pod with a fine toothed comb, marking all the samples with a number one.

Jen gave the second pod the same treatment, a slow and very thorough going over.  She marked these collected samples with the number two.  Then, Jen realized that she had to be going.  Jen headed back to the office to greet her three new security people.
