Re: The Kobold Lair - Gardbury Downs

With the shouts of encouragement, he felt the vigor of his youth returned to his aged muscles and brought his flail down finishing the beleaguered kobold warrior.  "You were right, the wretched spawn of tiamat breathes no longer," he roared in reply.

OOC: That's a total of 40 damage this turn between me and Kbenjar, so I'm pretty sure it's dead.  Red X on him.

13:41, Today: Malphurious rolled 9 using 1d8+7.  damage .
13:41, Today: Malphurious rolled 30 using 1d20+11.  commander's strike attack +8, +1 circle+2CA vs AC18.

Re: The Kobold Lair - Gardbury Downs

The last slink, barely stood, shivering and raised it's hand while in broken common pleaded for his life.
"No no...Please...me help! Yes! Irontooth kill me otherwise...I aid you yes, tell you of danger, you let me go yes?"
It tried it's best but pleaded in a poor situation. It had few options and it knew it.
It covered most of it's face following the battle, it was all alone as the silence spread around the waterfall.
The circle, which covered the dragonshield in blue light remained buzzing with energy, but what it did was somewhat uncertain.

Re: The Kobold Lair - Gardbury Downs

The surviving kobold was very fortunate that Ignatz had not sunk fully into the hysteria of battle. The moment it stops fighting the wide-eyed half-orc has its neck pinned to the ground with the haft of his polearm, one boot pressing down the end not held in his hand, one clawed hand raised in the air ready to tear the things throat out.

The few moments the others take to approach the tableau are not long enough for Ignatz's high to fade enough for him to easily form sentences. "HAAAA.... HAAAA...," Ignatz pants, "TALK..!"

Malphurious clapped Saskan on the back in a celebratory nature. "We sent many of those spawns of Tiamat back to oblivion.  It was a good fight."

Malphurious walked towards Ignatz, who had secured a prisoner who was looking to squeal.

"Indeed uncle, we are becoming quite a team. Let's go see what this spawn has to say for himself and can offer us to spare his life." Saskan matched his uncle's stride excited to hear what this kobold had to say.

Re: The Kobold Lair - Gardbury Downs

The kobold shivered, between it's blood slowly pouring out. It would not last long but it's word rung true.
"Many inside, sleeping in room behind waterfall. In nests yes - Irontooth and the rest longer back. Proud wearer of withered arm. Claims he big leader - have to obey. They sleep longer back - Not know you coming, or they be here.. Yes..He confident and will laugh at you. Be quiet, maybe he not hear you?"
The Kobold knows he isn't in good shape, but had worded what it knew. It seemed terrified of the socalled Irontooth.

Malphurious looked around.  They must have knocked out the parameter guards, but there would still be many kobolds inside their nest.  "Should we lure them out of their lair?  If we engaged them on land and from above while they were coming out, under the waterfall and stuck in the water, we would have a tactical advantage.  What do you think Saskan?  All of your study of tactics should have something for us to leverage here."

He nods.
"Speak of big man, in dark rope. Live in castle nearby yes....also pointy eared fellow..yes...come skulking about. Hard to see. Yes...Me not know otherwise...Can go now yes?"

The description fits, somehow to someone you have heard of before you departed....
From where Malph stands he can see a faint red light behind the waterfall, but it is sparse and hard to make out what is causing it.

"Two more questions before we let you scamper off.  One, how many more of your pack are in there?  And when is your next patrol or raiding party set to leave?"  Malphurious asked, but was beginning to be distracted by a faint red light beyond the waterfall.  He pointed it out to the others as they awaited a response.

It becomes obvious to Malph that the kobold can't count.
In an attempt it merely holds up it's hands, both and states: "..maybe this many?"
He shrugs at the other question.
"Only Irontooth know. He tells us nothing..no"

Saskan wanted to backhand the little kobold, but he knew that wouldn't bring honor to his family, so he restrained himself.

"We should move on. See to this Irontooth."

After a little scouting, Malphurious realized there were a few other entrances to the caverns below the waterfall.  "Nevermind on trying to set up an ambush.  They could bypass the chokepoint.  Let's just get on with it then.  This Irontooth must be stopped."

Ignatz grabs the kobold and pulls its face close to his own. His eyes glitter merrily and his broad grin shows off a dismaying number of pointed teeth. "Run," he rumbles.

Re: The Kobold Lair - Gardbury Downs

The Kobold runs as fast as it's small and injured legs can stand.
Which right now isn't much - Ignatz notices a curious smell as it departs but think no more of it for now.
There is silence around, and for now, you feel like you could indeed have the upperhand.
You expect at least two kobold handful of opposition inside, if your source however is reliable.

Malph notices that there is a small pathway behind the waterfall as well and can see the faint red light emerge from crystals inside. Curious. He hears faint steps, but sees nothing.

Warfryn moved up closer to the waterfall.

"I might be able to get in almost unseen" he said.  "I can mould the shadows around me to try to stay concealed from sight.  So maybe I could do some scouting.  And if I do get spotted I will get out as quick as I can and you can smash anyone that follows me."

"What do you think?"

Although perhaps not as stealthy as some of his race, WArfryn is pretty light on his feet.  With a quiet grace he slunk forwards and in behind the waterfall, keeping as far as possible within the concealing shadows.

Move: as per map
Shadow Walk; move 3+ spaces and gain concealment

18:18, Today: Warfryn rolled 20 using 1d20+2.  Stealth.

The rough, moisture-slicked walls of the cavern behind the waterfall give way to walls of ancient, worked stone. Here and there can be seen what appear to have once been bas relief statues -- but years of moisture have worn them away to unrecognizable lumps.
Through the archway to the east can be seen another large chamber, in the center of which stands a great throne of stone. Set into the back of the throne is a giant fire glowgem, casting an eery red light thorughout the chambers.
Warfryn is met by quite a sight.

Wandering around they see more small kobolds and overseeing them, three bow wielding kobolds keeping watch. They seem oblivious to Warfryn for now, as the dark near the waterfall shields him well, as long as he remains there.
Warfryn sees movement and hears snorring further inside the chambers hinting of something further back aswell.

WArfryn had seen enough.  QUietly and slowly he eased his way through the shadows and back out into the open.

"There are lots of kobolds" he said quickly as he described the scene inside "and there are probably more creatures further back.  I couldn't see what was in the deeper parts of the cave but there was light and so I imagine there are more enemies there."

He slowed down and took a deep breath.

"I think we are going to need some large area effects to reduce the opposition or we are going to be outnumbered several to one.  What powers do people have ready?  Unfortunately, all my powers are against one target only."

Warfryn sidled back through the waterfall and up along the cavern wall.  Still partly hidden in the shadows he prepared to lay the curse of his mentor upon the nearest kobold before letting fly an Eldritch Blast.
