Saskan says, "Am I right in assuming you follow the Verdant Lord? As my friends said, we are here to clear the area of the unnatural and foul creatures that have destroyed it of late."

Re: The Kobold Lair - Gardbury Downs

As the word Verdant lord escapes his mouth, the room silences itself and the roots stagnate.
"We are his - the great tree. HE who walks on the soil of the land and rebirths it. We are the followers of the Verdant Lord. Once the vassal of the Verdant lord lay here, in his tomb, to rest for his duty - now, desecrated by the kobolds in mention.
They speak of he, Karalel - whose evil magic, has caused a caping wound on the lands. What do you seek? To remove the taint? Go from here. South, by the roads, seek the burial grounds of the forsaken bones of the dragon. Find the relic he needs to complete the ritual, and keep it from him. Regrow the lands!"

With the information in hand, you can draw a simple map in your mind, keying in locations found so far.

The spirits remain calm for now, certain your aid will provide them with the rest they need.

Malphurious could tell the spirits were not hostile.  As it become obvious they shared the same common enemy, he was happy they provided some assistance and direction to aid them in their quest to disrupt whatever evil was brewing in this land.

"Who is this Karalel?  What does he seek to unleash?"
he asked, hoping to get more information about the man behind the kobold raids and seemly behind more nefarious things.

The spirits howl in anger at the mention of Karelel.
"His ritual harms the lands...wounding it as he walks. Enslaves lifes...and spreads darkness from his foul base. The taint is strong....hailing form the north....must..stop..him...his foul rituals damaging the lands.."

Garion bows his head in thanks to the spirits.  "We thank you for imparting what knowledge you have of this fiend.  I swear, by Bahamut's breath, we will cleanse the land of this Karalel and his taint!"

And with that, and not wishing to potentially enrage the spirits, he said, "Let us depart.  It seems we have work to do."

He trudged up the stairs and out, making sure to collect the sachel of kobold hands for the Lord as proof of services rendered.

"Yeugh!"

Warfryn was not normally squeamish - he was a warlock after all - but the idea of carrying around a bag of kobold hands, possibly for several days, was a little too much for his stomach.

"Come on then" he said, looking askance at Malphurious.  "The soomer we get going, the sooner we'll get back to town."

Re: The Kobold Lair - Gardbury Downs

The trek is not long, as the direction given leads you well on your way.
You are waylaid by a random group of kobolds, strayed from the larger group along the way, but manage them with ease.
Subtract 1 surge unless you make a save - 10 or above equals a success.
One of them carries a note:"Irontooth needs aid - head to the caverns and enforce the guards, our spy warns us of approaching enemies!"

You make haste from here, noticing a correlation between Karelel again and the increasing forces of kobolds roaming.

You notice a steep-sided crater punctures the wilderness.
Near the center of the depression, several humanoid figures cluster around a collection
of bones. Two small, dragonlike creatures near the crater rim stand alert and stare at your approach. On the far side of the crater, a sinister apparition presides over the gathering.
You will not be able to surprise them, but perhaps talking to them is an option?

Warfryn ghosted up near the rim of the crater.  He was hoping that his natural stealth would keep him out of the eyes of the enemy until he could open fire.

He was ready to Curse the nearest enemy - probably one of the dragonlike creatures - and then blast them with Eldritch fire but he first waited to see what the others would do.

Saskan had stayed out of the fray, using his new spear to direct his uncle and Ignatz the Barbarian in their battles.

Seeing the new batch of enemies, Saskan was wary and ready for a conflict should it come to that.

Ignatz hesitates for a few seconds, waiting to see if someone will suggest a plan other than attacking. Those few seconds of holding himself back cost him a tremendous amount of effort, and when he finally unleashes his pent up energy he does so like a cork from a bottle of champagne.

As is usual for Ignatz, he has his eye on whichever target looks most dangerous. He pounces on one of the nobodies, and launches toward the edge of the pit leaving a the poor mook broken in his wake. He flies up the slope on all fours and hits the specter like a hurricane- but none of his blows find purchase, and he strains his shoulder as his frustration feeds his frenzy.

Re: The Kobold Lair - Gardbury Downs

Warfryn took a deep breath.  He had not realised how much danger he was going to get into by following his patron.  The kobolds and Irontooth were bad enough but this lot...

His nerves led him slightly astray and he was very slow in responding to the sudden onset of violence.  He skittered to one side and tried to get cover behind a large rock before starting his attack.

Once set behind his sheltering rock he cast his Warlock's Curse onto the nearest little dragon thing, following that up with a blast of powerful eldritch energy.

"Let's hope that does the trick" he whispered to himself.

Their foe looked like a tough lot.  He wasn't keen to charge in with that many of them still up.  "Form up behind me," he said to everyone not named Ignatz, as he knew the berseker would charge in regardless.

OOC: Started a little to far to move + charge this turn.  At least our ranged guys can start softening them up.

Move: up 5 as per map.
Standard: Total Defense = +2 to all defense until start of next turn.
Minor: N/A
