Out of Character thread III

I will npc this round as it is stalling to a point where the game is barely alive.

I am sorry, but this is not enjoyable to me.

I will require here and now, to know where every player stand and I require it to be within the next 24 hours.

If there is no answer, I will resort to tall and replace if needed. Enough is enough, we are wasting eachothers time here.

I do not require an IC post(it would be nice though) but rather a short message that states, if you are in and willing to post more frequently or I will, with honor and good graces, thank anyone for participating, and wish you all the best.

Please, have a look, and address this.

Out of Character thread III

Still here and still interested and still willing to strife for more frequent posting.
I'd hate not to complete this episode/campaign/adventure/whatever.

I am also not opposed to the idea to continue beyond that point, i.e. Thunderspire Labyrinth and Pyramid of Shadows.

That being said, however, if we cannot manage a 48h limit to post (weekends, vacation, RL, ... excluded) it probably does not make much sense to kick a dying horse.

Out of Character thread III

In reply to Storyteller (msg # 1):

I'm still in. I'd continue on with the next modules, but my vote would be for something else. I think those modules can work just fine as written, but I think something built up from player input would keep player interest better.

For my part, I think I don't do well when it's not specifically indicated who is expected to go next in initiative order, and that's generally a common place where players appear to drop off. So, if that could be better indicated, I think that would help. It's not a perfect solution, but it might help.

Also, I (ironically) have more time to post during the workday than during evenings and weekends, and during the summer I will be away from my computer more often. However, I will make every effort to mention that when it comes up. It came up unexpectedly yesterday.

(I see that I am up, thanks for emphasizing that. I will act later today.)

I dunno.
This fight has run since Tue 22 May 2018.
The map clearly shows everyone's initiative.
How much better can it can ? I mean... truly.
Maybe it's just because I always restrict myself to about a handful of games and not play in a dozen or even more.
I cannot understand the seeming inability to know when it's my turn in a combat.
Maybe I'm looking too often at RPoL, though ^^

Re: Out of Character thread III

I am very keen to continue.  And I do mean I would like to continue this series not just this module.

As to initiative, I know the initiatives are on the map but I think it would help if Dungeonmaster posted them with his post as well.  Also are we to post strictly in order or as Vynth once suggested (I think it was Vynth) that we post in groups before and after the monsters.

I have been away much of the last fortnight so my posting might have been a bit erratic for which I apologise.  And the next 6 or 7 weeks or so I have a lot of commitments but I should be able to keep up.

I never look at the map except when I'm taking my turn and I rarely look at the table, except when I think it's my turn.

Much.

I don't think so, because I only play in a few games.

Understanding that seems key to tackling it. I'm trying to help people understand.

I think part of the issue is thinking of it as "inability." Putting it that way makes it seem as though people who aren't keeping up are almost comically dysfunctional, to the point that it must be that it's even plausible that they're doing it deliberately.

It's not that people are unable to know when it's their turn. While I will blithely waste time during the day on this site (and others), I try not to, and so my scanning on the site usually goes like this:
Is there a new message alert? No? Back to work.
Does the new message indicate directly that it's my turn? No? Back to work (or, more likely, a long-winded reply to whatever the post was about).
Could it still be my turn? Ooh, roll dice and write a post!
Wait, is it really my turn? Oops, nope. Apologize and back off.

In my case (and I doubt I'm special) I'm inattentive in part because I'm worried about being too attentive because (in part) I'm worried I won't be attentive enough. I'm well-meaning and perfectly able, but hindered by self-doubt and recollection of past mistakes. So, "inability" seems uncharitable to me.

Let's find what will help people and come to some compromise. I don't need my name in lights, but a little more specificity would not go amiss.

All of that seems to work for me also.  Thank you STahl.
