Omega Cometh (Susan's Story)

The vastness of space, immeasurable and ever expanding.  Even travelling at speeds faster than light, the time to pass from one point to another, can bleed away the commodity of time prematurely.  Such is the price to be paid, that travelling such distances in the blink of an eye.

With such constraints, Suri-Zod, slept away the passage of times in deep cyro sleep.  It was only when her small craft entered the gravitational well of a single yellow star, did she drop out of faster than light travel, to cruise just under the speed of light deeper into the Sol System.

As the small craft traveled, long dormant systems start to wink awake.  Systems come online, and the long process of reviving their sole passenger begins

Suri woke with the normal shock of revival from cyro sleep, or so she had been informed to expect.  That didn't make the experience any more pleasant.  She was cold, deep down, to the core, and the meager heat of the reviving therms felt inadequete to dispel the chill.  Moisture dripped down on her, as the seals to the hatch of her cyro chamber released.

"Status...", she manages to wheeze out from lungs still laboring to catch her breath, and a mouth dry from sleep.

"Entering the Sol system...
Dropping out of Hyper Light Speed to Sub-Light travel...
Estimated time to arrival to 'third' planet ... 337 time units
"

"Acknowledged.  Update travel time for adjusted course plot to arrive from behind their moon by the half way point."

The computer took a heart beat to calculate the requested adjustments.

"Estimated time of arrival for adjusted course plot ... 476 time units."

"Acknowledge.  Update navigations to adjusted course plot.  Display travel progress on navigational holo, Display forward arc visual on main holo."

"Complying."

The main holographic display presented a simple two dimensional winks to life displaying a system with a single yellow sun.  On one of the secondary holo display a three dimensional map appears, mark the Sun, her destination, her ship, and a plotted course through the system to take her there.  It was a little round about, but she was in no rush, and needed some time to recover from cyro sleep.

Over the next few hours, Suri kepts an eye on the progress she made through space.  It was presumed, that she would absorb the energy from the system's sun, but she didnt feel all that different.

She was restless, she had spent enough time sleeping that she felt no urge to do so now.  Small craft's cabin was rather small, much of the free space taken up by the cyro tube she had just vacated.

There was nothing to do but review the last few waking moments of her existence before her exile from Krypton.  Her father's mad grab for power, the bloody violence of civil war, the betrayal of his wife... Suri's mother... that helped turn the tide at the end.  The violent backlash of retribution that ended her life.

Suri closed her eyes, but no tears would be forth coming.  Aside from the temporary drying of tear ducts from cyro sleep, children of the house of Zod did not cry.  It was unforgivable weakness.  To be weak in the house of Zod, was to be prey.  Prey did not survive long.

Suri made an effort to gather intel on the planets native.  How advance were they?  Certain her ability to absorb energy would give her the edge over the natives, but it would be foolishly negligent to rely on such an advantage to survive.

'Ship' had picked up transmissions of some sort from the planet.  As they got closer they grew in strength and complexity.

'Know thy enemy', Suri thought grimly of the lessons she was forced to learn, ' ... but do they have to be my enemy? '

The house of Zod were warriors.  Warriors fought, that's what they knew best.  Her father was one of the greatest strategist ever known.  Most certainly he would have carved out an empire, but ... what was the point.  They were lesser beings, study of the images that were transmitted confirmed that much.  Learning the language was taking longer.

'Do i... have to fight?'

There was no one to impress... no one to prove her worth too... no one to challenge her.  The novelty of an idle existence lasted for only a few minutes.  She was after all, her father's daughter.

"Proximity alert.  Approaching 3rd planet's moon."

The hours seemed to float by, as Ship bought her out of her quiet musings.  Suri debated between staying in orbit and landing.

"Does the moon have an atmosphere?"

"Negative."

Suri gave a sigh, so much for a quiet approach to gather more intel.  Certainly she could linger on the dark side of the moon and do so, but she was restless, and not eager to be alone with her thoughts for longer than necessary.

"Scan planet for population density.  I want to land some place isolated.", Suri wasnt ready to meet the locals just yet.

"Land someplace warm.", Suri took a moment to hug herself, she was still a little cold from cyro sleep.

"If possible... near sources of food, and fresh water."

"Acknowledged."

There was a long pause, as ship waited to see if there were any more landing parameters.

"Proceed."

The small little craft veered out of orbit from the moon, using the gravitation well to sling shot the craft around to hurl it towards the planet.  They were barely moving faster that the speed of sound.

"Plenty of time to suit up.", Suri left the pilot couch to step after to small locker.  She took a few moments to pull on a pair of ankle length boot, and a neck choker.  A holstered gun was belted on to rest reassuringly on her hip.  Two fingers press against the house of zod emblem on the choker system check.

"Life support charged to sustain life for a duration of 24 hours."

"Good.", the choker would provide her with appropriate atmosphere for a period of 24 hours.  It could be recharged if needed, but for now 24 hours seemed ample.  Suri takes a moment to check her gun to be certain it has a full charge.  There was a vague trembling of vibration as her ship made contact with the planet's atmosphere.

'Won't be long now.'
