James Rassendyll, Max Ransome, and their companions reached the dock and embarked on a ship for Genoa. As they boarded, another passenger also embarked, a short,swarthy man with a thick dark beard carrying what appeared to be an unusually heavy suitcase. (All Player characters roll on Clever to see whether they notice this passenger. If they do, they may ask a steward about him.)

A few days out, one of the party (roll on Clever to see which one), sees the bearded man going down towards the hold where no passengers should be. He is again carrying a heavy suitcase.
