In reply to Doc (msg # 37):

You have floats on, you need in order of preference,  Water, a foot or more of snow, or ice on snow.

Re: The Speak Easy:  OOC Talk, Questions and Answers

Doc and Driver would definitely know, there has been almost no snow in the area since December.

The rest of the characters would know from what they saw flying there is not much snow and most all the water bodies are free of ice.

Re: The Speak Easy:  OOC Talk, Questions and Answers

It may help that it is over a state line, but would they be able to watch us land and contact Vermont authorities to come after us?  :o

Re: The Speak Easy:  OOC Talk, Questions and Answers

Mickey and I were holed up in Graphite, NY, which is just south of Ticonderoga at the southern tip of the lake. If we turned east over Vermont and then headed north, they'd probably lose sight of us before we touched down, especially at night.

The only lake I know of in that region (other than like, Champlain and George) is Schroon Lake because I have family there (IRL me not my character

Is Schroon Lake within 30-45 air miles ?

Re: The Speak Easy:  OOC Talk, Questions and Answers

It’s like a 20 mile drive from Ticonderoga, at the southern tip of Lake Champlain, and about a 60 mile drive from the geographic center of the lake. So, it depends on where exactly on Lake Champlain we took off from, but probably

That said, I’ve no idea if there would’ve been anywhere to refuel a plane there in the 30s. Now there’s just a Walmart, a McDonald’s, and a bunch of trees.

In reply to Doc (msg # 45):

LOL
You guys need a convienence store on the water.

Actually at this time, float planes were fairly new, most were fueled by drums rolled out on docks and pumped into planes.

You guys are just south of modern day Plattsburgh.  I'm guess a little too for Schorn lake, too bad, I will allow Doc having knowledge of the lake and know it's a bit too far.

Re: The Speak Easy:  OOC Talk, Questions and Answers

Doc:
The Vermont side of Lake Champlain might work. It would take them at least a few hours to get around the lake by car, and Burlington would have fuel and we could sell the booze there

This option seems the most promising to me, given the map we have.  We can fly south until we are out of sight, and keep over water in case something goes wrong.  For all we know, we could have some type of damage that would bring us down sooner than expected...  :o

But only 30 miles from Burlington, so that's still an option

Assuming the guys that came after us were Dutch Shultz’s, does his influence extend to Vermont?

NOTICE:
Hey Team, Great Kick Off.

I'm Loving it, we did a hundred posts in 24 hrs.  Don't expect that pace to continue, but it was fantastic for me.  I haven't GM'd for a few years.  It was great to engage with a good bunch of roleplayers.

I am really loving the creativity and attention to detail.  It really makes the period and the scene come alive...  :)

Game player activity Update

Party A
PCs
Doc
Flyboy
Sparks
Scout
Driver*

NPCs
Cowboy
Numbers

Party B
PCs
Spaniard*
Farmboy*

*PC's have not made an in character post

I would also note that Driver was pretty active in helping me get through some technical difficulties accepting characters before we kind of lost him.

I've considering what a fair wait time is for all the active folks in a game to wait for other players.  I am considering 1 week of unannounced absence to be the cut off.  However, I loved to get player input.

Re: The Speak Easy:  OOC Talk, Questions and Answers

depending on players, and this is a new game starting out.... I'll tell you what I use in  my Space game  and semi-D&D game.

too many folks   will sign up, then  walk away. so I don't  give Rookies  much leeway .. a week?  at beast.. a couple days  if they don't have a sheet and backround.. ( my spac e game sheets   are simple as heck, for a reason)

as the GAme goes  on ( here) or  in  established  game.. active players  wil get more of a break.. maybe  a month

IF... there is  a 'heads up post" either In a PM to me, or OOC to let  thier fellow players know

Lets face it..this place is for games, fun ect…. but its no fun for a GM  if  we don't know if the player is playing?..its no fun for the other players who want to  play with thier person...RL always coems first, it has to?..but… if RL  is   so heavy that you can't give a heads up post?..its best to move along...

Re: The Speak Easy:  OOC Talk, Questions and Answers

OK by me.

Turnover is an inevitable part of an RPoL game's life cycle.

However, this game has two advantages:

(*) The cast of characters is predefined and well-defined
(*) The GM is quite creative and detail-oriented, and is good at bringing NPCs to life

Of course, it puts more strain on the GM to have to play more characters.  However, I have not felt the game quality suffering too much thus far from PC absences, since the GM has taken up the slack so well...  :)

I'll be posting newspaper links in threads, for instance Feb 2nd, 1932, as I just did in the game thread.
