Game Details/Background

*Please note: As this game develops, more details will be added into the game so please check back whenever you see any updates*

In this thread you'll find information on how the clans work, day to day life, beliefs, etc.  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Basic Clan Structure:
A clan is composed of any number of members, ranging anywhere from over 100 to as little as 20.  Most have formed bonds between one another to the point where it is quite common to find the names Shay and Farrell in virtually every clan.  There are, however, unincorporated clans as well as rogue and 'lost' clans.  Each clan is run by a bren'in who is the final word in all clan matters and affairs.  Both men and women can be the bren'in, with successors either being named or inherited (spouses next, followed by children).  Each clan also possesses a group of elders that act as counsel and who retain all clan knowledge.

Raids:
While the mountain provides virtually everything to live, some items are simply impossible to obtain in the wild.  Bullets, fuel and ATV parts are fairly high on the list.  To that end, a bren'in can call for a raid, wherein clan members charge into the local town, either in full daylight or under the cover of night, and simply take what they want.  In times past, the towns people and law enforcement simply ignored it as the raids were few and far between.  However, the air around the town has changed and they are no longer accepting nor understanding of clan ways.

Crime & Punishment:

Much like the modern world, the mountain too has its rules.  Whenever a clan member commits a serious transgression, i.e. theft, murder, they are tried by the circle of elders and the bren'in, with the bren'in once again having ultimate say.

"Lostys":
The term "Losty" is used to refer to anyone not born and raised among the clans.  It is also a rather derogatory term, inferring that those below have lost their true way.  To that end, most every losty or towny is shunned and not welcome upon the mountain (the reverse has begun to apply in the town itself).  While exceptions do exist, by and large those not born of the clans are not welcomed for any reason.  They are considered tainted, corrupt and a danger to the clan way of life.  Similarly, those that leave the clan to live among the lostys, even for a short time, are hard pressed to be re-accepted by the clan if they attempt to return.

Farrell Wine:
While tobacco is almost unheard of, Farrell wine is legendary.  Technically, it is not a wine but is in fact moonshine.  A fairly simple recipe but one that is guarded and powerful.  It is reported to have powers beyond that of intoxication, made that much more potent by the different botanical blends formulated generation after generation.  The same can not be said when consumed by lostys; it is rather common for brief but violent psychotic breaks to occur.

Firearms:
Simply referred to as 'fire', guns have an odd relationship with the clans.  A common expression goes, "Fire makes a man weak".  Some clans keep small caches of them, primarily for the annual Fall hunt to ensure enough meat for the Winter.  Many of these would be considered antique (black powder) but the occasional shotgun or modern hunting rifle pops up in a trade.  Some clans even go so far as to outright ban their use entirely.

Skills:
As your characters and the story begin to develop, I plan on bringing in skill sets so you can further specialize.  I'm currently building the skill library and it will still run on the same percentile system currently in place.

Spirituality:

The clans practice a pre-christian form of paganism culled from their shared Celtic background.  Many of the deities found in the Celtic pantheon are honored and revered among the clans.  From this a great source of power can be tapped.  The mountain too is honored in much the same manner and also provides the clans with untold abilities.
*More to come concerning religion, powers, gifts, etc.*
