Damn, no apologies necessary.  Sounds like it's been a little rough as of late.

Good to see you back Travis.  Yes, things have slowed as we lost a majority of the players but still here, keeping that ember flickering.

In reply to Heart of the Mountain (msg # 131):

I think you lost some players because you made it a little too free play, and those that took to free play are taking a lot of story liberties. Sure you gave those liberties but it certainly impacted me back when I took to hiatus.

Re: OOC Chat

In reply to Heart of the Mountain (msg # 133):

I am an explorer type player, I go in looking to see other peoples worlds, I do not have much interest in creating or directly shaping my world so when I saw some players (I mentioned it when I saw it) making the world around them I felt a lot less mystery, less interest, and so was more inclined to stop doing anything the moment life became more demanding.

the problem with such liberties is the more creators you have in place the more conflict there will be... one persons vision will conflict or error on another persons and thus the image will convolute or creators will leave.

these are a few of the factors I can present and eleborate upon.

I think I am still a tad confused.  Are you referring to the individual threads or something entirely different?

Re: OOC Chat

GM -- I think Travis wants you to craft the world for him, rather than making it up himself.  Some people like guided play better than free form.  Sounds like Travis needs to be in a campaign.

Re: OOC Chat

In reply to Maeryn Farrell (msg # 136):

there is free form and then there is a free for all.

I mean some of the play style, ST. the level of liberty given to the players.

things like minor control over npc's to allow better flow for the game is something more akin to free play... very minor... like the shop keeper's general propensity towards you or there acceptance of your pay.

fabricating details like supplies, or that there is a shopkeeper, or entire npc's without coordination with the story teller is a free for all.

suddenly, the farmer player who wants to make mead cant now because you decided that you are the first to introduce honey to the clan... and thus are the sole source.

suddenly, there are no guns because you are the sole blackpower maker and you came because you knew such details... suddenly... we have 5 shop keepers all with contradicting supplies and demands because each pc wants to fabricate a favorable market for themselves.

a free for all easily becomes a mess... there should only be one story forger and the players should make there place in that one story... having multiple story tellers come to a table can be fun but it is rarely anything but convoluted unless everyone is use to it and familiar with each other.

Re: OOC Chat

I understand what you are saying but I have yet to see that in this particular game.  Not to mention, as the one running the game, it is partially my job to keep track of all these various different matters so that things do continue to flow easily without massive hiccups, as you mentioned.

Re: OOC Chat

These things happen, no worries.

Unless either of you wish to drop out or officially pause the game then yes, as far as I'm concerned, we're still going.  Just running at a rather slow pace...sorry, just haven't gotten any responses for new players.

Re: OOC Chat

Hey, guys. I know it's been quite some time since I've posted here, but I've recently run into a bit more free time.

Might start back up here, if HotM doesn't mind. Not sure if I'll keep the same character, or start from scratch, though.

Any suggestions on characters and/or ways to jump into the plot?

Re: OOC Chat

We could always use a few good souls up on this mountain.  Your call whether you'd like to start from scratch or keep going as you were.  We do have one new arrival in camp who may need some company.
