Chapter 9: The Northern Trail
At Lazaret's bidding, the entire room is engulfed in a green light, including several of the heroes' enemies. Only the bugbear zombie and one of the others is spared the green glow of faerie fire.

A moment later, Therarak's vial of alchemical fire explodes on the floor, catching both Malik and one of the decaying zombies in its blast.

Thorfire strikes hard at the zombie bugbear, but the beast still stands. The ever evasive halfling ducks behind one of the other zombies for cover, and all but Malik are at a loss to spot him.

Two zombies close in on Celador. One gains a glancing blow (damage 4 or 0, depending on whether or not Celador is glowing), but the other catches Celador hard across the back, nearly knocking the elf to his knees.

The bugbear zombie, confused but who or what stabbed him, looks about for a moment before settling on the tabaxi as a target. He strikes with his morning star, tearing Lazaret open across his side.
Another zombie attacks the wounded tabaxi, but his luck is different. He strikes Lazaret with his right arm, but when he does, his arm comes disattached at the shoulder, oozing a gruesome mix of pus and maggots when it does.
23:22, Today: DM rolled 19 using 1d20+4. Zombie Bugbear vs. Lazaret. Lazaret takes 11 damage.
23:23, Today: DM rolled 4 using 1d20+3. Zombie 6 attack vs. Lazaret. Critical miss... zombie 4 is now missing an arm, will have disadvantage on remaining attacks.
Finally Malik, still at the back of the room with a sneer on his face, strikes. "I've been waiting for you, halfling. Let me make sure you are the first to die!" As he speaks, the circlet around his head begins to glow. Then, with flash, three rays of light flash across the room toward Thorfire. The first hits the ground at his feet, but the second and third both strike the halfling, staggering him greatly.
Malik laughs out loud, then mutters a few more words while flashing a tiny silver mirror in the glowing green light.
Malik has cast sanctuary on himself, meaning that anyone attempting an attack against him must make a successful DC 13 WIS save or else turn that attack on another target.
23:15, Today: DM rolled 17 using 1d20+5. Malik scorching ray vs. Thorfire.
23:08, Today: DM rolled 25 using 1d20+5. Malik scorching ray vs. Thorfire. Critical hit... Thorfire takes 12 damage.
23:08, Today: DM rolled 12 using 1d20+5. Malik scorching ray vs. Thorfire.
23:16, Today: DM rolled 6 using 2d6. scorching ray damage.
And all the while, the drumbeats continue.
Tough round against: Thorfire takes 18 damage, Lazaret 11, and Celador 12 (if he missed his DEX save) or 4 (if he made it).

Zombies 3, 5, 6, and Malik are aglow in faerie fire (you get advantage).
Malik has cast sanctuary upon himself, so DC13 WIS save required to attack him.
Zombie 4, 5, the bugbear zombie, and Malik have all taken damage.
Zombie 6 is missing an arm.
Zombie 3 is undamaged.
