Chapter 2.2 Becoming Scrap-worthy

The group recognises Scrapwall from far in the distance. It looks at first like a great, flat hill; but upon approaching further, the slopes are revealed to be not grass or mud but heaps of trash, mountains of discarded objects many of which are made of metal. Nameless who has visited before can tell the others that the town is actually situated inside of this trash, it is built like a wall around the whole place, also separating different 'districts' or areas inside the town from one another. The town is roughly divided in gang turfs, but their geographical outline is unknown to the group, and gangless scrappers live both within and outside of these turfs. What Nameless knew from before is that the Steel Hawks controlled the gate and thus held a lot of power, but that they have since lost their scrap-worth, and above them are now Redtooth's Raiders, the Smilers, and the Lords of Rust. The Lords of Rust are rumored to have some sort of arena, but that is really the extent of Nameless' knowledge about the gangs' whereabouts.

The road leads to a ramshackle pair of buildings. The walls and roofs are made of strips of leather and fur, timbers, metal plates and other junk lashed and bolted together, and they sit in a gap in the surrounding mounds of refuse. Between the two buildings run a metal gate, closed to block passage into the open area beyond. The group can see from a distance a woman in leather and metal armor walking out from one of the buildings and, standing safely behind the gate, yelling:

"Who are you four? What are you doing here?"
She has a longbow held by her side, no arrow nocked, and a sword in a holster or belt behind her right shoulder.

The group has 0 scrap-worth.

Chapter 2.2 Becoming Scrap-worthy

They know you're worthless

You should run, there is nothing for you here

She is insolent, cut her head off and toss it to her friends

Ren's face was set in stone but in her head she was screaming at the voices to just shut up. She looked up and stared at the sentry. They had a plan and it involved her look badass and letting Daken do the talking so all she had to do was not wince and argue with herself...

Chapter 2.2 Becoming Scrap-worthy

Daken stepped forward, moving around Ren like a dutiful minion to call out to the sentry.

"Hey boss, you'd better open up. Ren here doesn't have a lot of patience. She also isn't in the habit of explaining herself to door guards. We're here to talk to the Smilers about some of there...well ex-members now. Unless you'd like to be added to the list I suggest opening up."

OOC: Oof this could be a bad idea...

FUCK ME... 14 intimidation...

The guard is somewhat unnerved. "You've got to talk to the boss. Sorry, I'm sure none of us hawks want to get in your way, if you're here for the smilers." She walks over to the building opposite to where she came from, and bangs on the wall to alert whoever is inside. "This is how we always do it, sorry, Lords of Rust demand it. Gotta talk to the boss, gotta ask the questions. You crusaders? Gotta ask!"

"Sorry, had to ask... Orders..." she mumbles, and then another woman in leather and steel armor steps out behind the gate. They exchange a few quick words, the first one then backing off considerably while the second, relaxed, stays to face the group.

"Alright, Jina tells me you're here to meet the Smilers. That it? No crusading here, no big attack on all of scrapwall, right? I'll open for you, but you will have to follow me first." She gestures into the house she came from, but waits for the group's response rather than opening the gate.

Chapter 2.2 Becoming Scrap-worthy

Once inside the meeting room, the woman sends away the three guards sitting and standing around in there, and then closes the door behind you. "Welcome to Scrapwall. I'm Sevroth Slaid, of the Steel Hawks. I understand you're not here to raze our town, and so I will let you in. Should you wish to live your lives away from all the strictures of society, this might even be a place you could call home in a little while. Regardless, I hear you have trouble with the Smilers. This leads me to think they've done something to you outside of our town, am I right? Sevroth gives Ren a piercing stare. "Well I know us Steel Hawks have not done any such thing, so I should not be on your shit-list. Given that, I want to offer an opportunity that will benefit us all. You see, when the Lords of Rust took control over Scrapwall, they installed an ex-smiler, Birdfood" Sevroth spits on the ground "as the leader of us Steel Hawks. If you head over to the Hawk Palace and kill him, I'll in return give you any and all information you need regarding Scrapwall. You're new here, right? I'll make you a map, point out the Smiler's base and any dangerous areas on the way there, heck - I'll mark out anything you'd be interested in. And then the Steel Hawks will be left to my leadership." Sevroth watches the four members of the group, waiting for a response.

Ren's lip curled up into a sneer.

"We're not assassins. We don't kill for money. If you need him gone and can help us we'll drive him out of the city no problem but I'll need a better reason to take his head than that."

Ren was trying her best to sound like a grizzled outlander and not a do-gooder hero but she just couldn't bring herself to kill someone who hadn't done anything wrong just because they were in her way.

Chapter 2.2 Becoming Scrap-worthy

"Good enough for me." Sevroth nods and smiles. "He'll have no scrap-worth left, there's no way he can walk back into town if you drive him out of the Hawk Palace."

Sevroth brings out a simple map showing open areas surrounded by thick, rounded walls, an points out a few areas on it. "We're here, Hawk Palace is there, and this area in between belongs to us Steel Hawks - but for someone new in town, like you, I'd expect there's a great chance even here that you'll find thugs going after you. Most people try to keep their head down, keep out of trouble. I expect you can handle it though. Might even turn out in your favor, if people get the impression that you're a tough bunch, and if you can back it up, you'll have an easier time here. If you don't, and just head for the smilers to cause trouble, you might very well find people getting in your way because they want to prove themselves. Of course, become truly scrap-worthy and you'll get the attention of the Lords of Rust." Sevroth  looks the group up and down before continuing. "But if you don't have a problem with them, that shouldn't be a problem."

Outside the entrance buildings, an area wide like town square back in Torch opens up before the group. Vagrants can be seen making their way into small nooks and other hidden areas along the town walls, while a few orcs have gathered in the middle, talking to each other, laughing and pointing in your direction.

The group has 1 scrap-worth, the initial point having been gained for being admitted into town.

Chapter 2.2 Becoming Scrap-worthy

Ren considers her companions. She arches an eyebrow in an unspoken signal about whether they wanted to handle this little task of theirs tonight or after some rest.

OOC: Have they been able to heal up and rest up for spells in between the crusader camp and here or is it still the same day?

Chapter 2.2 Becoming Scrap-worthy

As the group stands outside the entrance house, a few of the orcs in the wide-open area ahead draw large orcish swords, or throwing spears. One of them yells. "EY NEW ONES, COME HERE, WE WANT TO SHOW YOU AROUND TOWN!" His friends laugh and stare at the group menacingly.

Sure, you've healed up!

Chapter 2.2 Becoming Scrap-worthy

Ren looked at the others and gave them a grim nod. They had talked about how if this place was as wild as it had sounded from the Crusaders they might have to bash a few skulls in order to be left alone on their mission and it seemed like those skulls were now presenting themselves.

Ren hefted her morningstar and pointed it at the lead orc and nodded and Daken spoke up from behind her.

"Thank the gods. I was worried we would have to find someone to kill. What hospitality, victims just tripping over themselves to step up and get their skulls bashed in."

Meanwhile Ren hit them with another glare hoping she could get them to stand down like she had kinda sort of done with the gate guard.

OOC: 16:04, Today: Daken rolled 30 using 1d20+11.  intimidate.
16:04, Today: Ren Ulyms rolled 15 using 1d20+5.  intimidate, aid another (dakken).

If the fight is going to happen then perhaps they start demoralized? Otherwise RUN YOU COWARDS!!!

Chapter 2.2 Becoming Scrap-worthy

The orcs look unnerved suddenly. The group make their advance without mercy, and like dogs the orcs cower, backing away. "Okay, didn't know you were here to do business is all... Uh, sorry for bothering ya..." With an awkward apology, the leader-type man in the group makes the defeat official, and they all back away to at safe distance turn and walk hurriedly towards other areas of town.

Ahead lies Hawk Palace, a building trying to match its name while being built out of large pieces of metal and wood that hardly could've looked like they fit together before - and sure don't seem to now either. Either way, the building looks surprisingly sturdy. Three orcs stand on and patrol a sort of balcony or catwalk, stairs to which function as the entrance to the building. Beyond are four semi-separate rooms, like miniature houses on a platform. The middle one is the largest and could be assumed to be a hall for audiences, a throne room or some such ceremonial function. The three other ones could be living quarters for guards, this Birdfood or other Steel Hawks, or have any other such practical function. The closest room on the right hand side for the group has a barred window resembling that to a cell in a dungeon, it runs from ceiling to floor and reveals a large part of the room inside which seems vacant.

To the east, the wide passage into the rest of this town opens and beyond rises a metallic, high-technologic construction humongous in size - a concave disc seemingly "pointed" at the horizon to the south-west.

For sights and options in town, refer to the map thread!
The group now has 2 scrap-worth, awarded for expertly staring down the group of small-time bullies in front of a rather anonymous and quiet but surely rumor-mongering crowd. Word spreads fast, new guys have come to town and they're not "noone"...

Chapter 2.2 Becoming Scrap-worthy

Ren leads them straight for Hawk Palace. No use beating around the bush. So far intimidation had gotten them pretty far and she hoped they could continue that trend. So far it seemed most of these scrappers were cowards, loud barks that quickly shied away from a real fight.

OOC: She's going to head towards throne room.
