[IC] In the Beginning, Gods created...
JC could not tell if he was harming the creature or not.  Perhaps he was too close to the action, or perhaps he was far too focused on attack and defence, the thrill of battle, to notice anything more than that which he had to do.  That he now had an ally in the woman who called herself Jacynth, if he recalled, was a boon, and it only spurred him on to inflict as much mortal damage to this creature as was possible.

Andrew move forward closing on the battle. Making sure to avoid the flashing blade from the other combatants he shoves the pistol against the creatures head and pulls the trigger.

Somewhat stymied by the creatures resilience Thierry paced around to keep it in sight. Like Dylan he was...'strategically' placed, far away, but he still maintained decent line of sight. He cast a quick glance around, just to take stock before he refocused on the hellspawn.

"Dis thing just ain't dying" His lips twitched and the silver claw on his right index finger pricked the small fetish. As it did essence began to leak from his body. It bubbled and rolled before being grasped and drawn to that finger.

Although JC continues to decimate the corporeal body of the creature, it becomes evident that physical damage alone would not be enough to take the creature out, yet... as Andrew draws the trigger of the gun, a powerful shot blasts a hole where the creature's head once was, and at that moment, all movement ceases.  There's not even the twitching that might be characteristic of a suddenly lifeless corpse, it just simply quits moving.  In an instant.... the battle is over, yet based on the sounds from outside, perhaps only begun.  Yet another blast of jets flying past shakes the establishment, and the thawing corpses continue to strive in an effort to reach each of you.  Even in the freezer, Dylan can feel the hands of a creature reach out in an effort to grab him, though still too frozen, and thus still too slow, to succeed.

Still holding a knife in either hand, she glances at the dead body, thinking perhaps it had been simply inhabited by something from the beginning.  In the meantime, the other bodies were beginning to rise as well.  "We should likely deal with the rest of these, then be prepared to move."

Thierry blinked once, twice, three times as the pistol seemingly ended the hellspawns relentless struggles. He couldn't admire the shot for long before his focus shifted to Jacynth and then to the various corpses before reorienting on the downed creature.

"Well.." His words cut off when the building shook and a flicker of unease danced through his eyes.

"I know I might a missed something," He began slowly and carefully. Each word enunciated to avoid any confusion. "But why is the ground shaking?"

With the creature finished Andrew holsters his pistol and picks up a couple of the automatic rifles, slinging one over his shoulder as he quickly inspects the other. "My guess friend is that those jets are either getting ready to flatten the area or they are withdrawing from the area and we are about to be overrun. Either way it should prove to be a interesting day."

Andrew quickly looks around the room for more ammo.

Having been frantically focused on the creature from the abyss, concentrating on dodging its strikes and countering whenever he could, JC was surprised when the beast suddenly went limp, then crashed to the ground.  He stared at it for a few moments, then looked up and around, noticing the man with the pistol for the first time.  He looked down at the creature, saw the hole in its head, then looked back at the man and gave a simple nod of recognition, both to him and his handy work.  Perhaps there was something to be said for ranged weapons after all! he thought to himself as he took in what the others were saying, noticing another new face, again for the first time.

"Agreed.  They have been getting closer for a while now, but you can see the difficulty we have had in evacuating this place," and indicated the creature with a small incline of his head.  "I have had enough interesting things happen for today, so I suggest we leave as of right now.  The animated dead will most likely be dealt with by the fallout from whatever is happening in this area, so the sooner we leave, the further we will be from being embroiled in this activity," he said, wiping his shortsword off and placing it back in his backpack.

Dylan kicks the octopus face, just to be sure... before grabbing up one of the guns scattered across the floor, and checking for ammo.  "Not to sound all nervous guys, but I'm kinda nervous... Either the Mexican border is closer than I calculated, or the fighting is happening on our side of the border...", he comments though the latter part was possibly lost in the flyover of the jets overhead.

Best way to test if the gun is loaded is target practice, so he points the gun at the closest dead thing and pulls the trigger before the clawing hands can get to him.

With the sound of the battle outside getting closer, the sudden bang of a gun, as Dylan fires into the skull of one of the undead, is even more disturbing than usual.  The creature however, does not fall limp as expected, but rather quickly reaches out and grabs Dylan by the arm, pulling him closer.

Again the ground shakes, but this time it's not from the passing of jets, but from an equally overwhelming explosion outside.  It feels as if a mortar has just been dropped somewhere within the nearby vicinity, and as you steady your footing, you see that several more of the undead have become more animated and are rising from their positions on the ground.

Moving quickly over to the wall near the grills Andrew shoves the grill aside and begins kicks at the gas line trying to knock it loose. "May want to start a tactical retreat ladies and gentlemen."

JC, who had already said as much, was already moving towards the exit and listening out for any advancing troops or further sounds of jets and bombs in their immediate vicinity.  He did not look back at the sound of gunfire, nor at the sound of the pipes being kicked in.  His eyes were firmly fixed on where he was going, what was in his way, and what he had to potentially get out of his way in order to proceed.

"I think, with these only fire is the answer, and from the sound of things, a tactical retreat might not be a bad idea."  She glanced toward Victoria, who seemed rather out of it, and moving to her cousin began to follow whichever way JC had chosen to go.

"Tactical retreat den" Thierry murmurs before moving towards Andrew. To all those who would notice he would be literally rippling with essence by now. "You intend ta blow dis place? I get you far from here when ya do" He offers a wry grin before tapping the ground with his heel. A quick sharp motion that leaves a ripple of essence at his feet.

With the number of undead thawing reaching a critical point, it becomes obvious that the best way to handle this, is an explosion that destroys not only the thawing, but the hundreds of frozen ones in the freezers.  After all, each of these undead is but a weapon against the living, and the destruction of such weapons is paramount.

JC heads back the way they came, eyes focused for potential threats as they exit the kitchen area.  He pushes through, with Jacynth and Dylan in tow, as Andrew and Thierry stay behind long enough to bust open the gas hose, however as the pipe goes bust, the entire area is blanketed in darkness.  In the distance, another vibratory explosion shakes the establishment as the electricity goes out, and in the darkness, the only thing you really see is the front door through which the glare of the outside enters.

This hissing of the gas is quickly drowned out by the jets that again fly overhead at sonic speeds, and another explosion is heard from nearby as again, the ground buckles beneath you making it almost impossible to maintain your footing.

Dylan stayed in the comforting shadow of JC, watching from the rear as the jets zoomed past overhead.  "I follow you boss", he said to JC, though figured he was unheard over the ruckus outside.  When the latest quake happened, Dylan was flat on his ass, groping for anything in the dark to use for getting back up on his feet.

So focused on getting out of this place was JC, that the essence he was feeling was more like background noise than full front and centre.  It was only when Thierry tapped his foot on the floor did the man's essence truly penetrate JC's focused haze.  JC turned, held out a hand to help Dylan up, and spoke to Thierry in the darkness.

"Am I to assume you can teleport us out of here?" he asked.  "If that is true, then let us, indeed, blow this place, literally, in both senses of the word, for I fear the next jet to fly over will blow this place, and us, with it.  First, of course, there is the matter of making sure these undead, stay dead," he finished, noticing the gas smell for the first time.

"Da more I take the more it cost." He whispers absently. Almost the entirety of his focus is on the essence that is nearly palpable around him. Drops of sweat bead his forehead and his index finger seems to be scratching a symbol into his palm. "I got da power, but it takes time. Leave now, one destroys this place I get us far away."

Jacynth nods, "I got this..." she states as she nods for everyone to head out, "Get your gate ready, and I'll light this up", she finishes, looking at Thierry, observing the essence collecting around him.

Helping Dylan to his feet, JC sees that the doorway is a moment away and as he watches Jacynth raise her hand, as if expecting a flame to suddenly appear in it, sees that there is no time to waste as Andrew grins, and steps in his direction.

JC nodded back in turn, something akin to concern in his look, but understanding that these were people like him, and if the other man said he could get himself and the woman to safety, then JC would believe he could do that.  Wanting to lift the two with him and start running for the exit (he was pretty fast for a big guy), JC resisted and instead shepherded them out.  Once outside, he looked for some type of cover which would both shield them from the impending blast, and from the eyes of any out here who were fighting.  If he could spy a way to get them out of there without being spotted, he would do that as well.

Dylan rushed out the front door, perhaps a bit too fast, not considering the importance of observing surroundings, but came to a quick stop once he was outside.  It was still daylight, and Dylan was never eager to run out into the sunlight where his powers waned.  His eyes went to the skies in search of cloud cover.

Following the others out the front door Andrew slowed only long enough to get his bearings and for his eyes to adjust to the light. He then continued on looking for somewhere strong a sturdy to take cover.

Thierry steps next to Jaycinth and places one arm around her shoulder. The other pushes at the ground, now rolling with pent up essence being swiftly constructed into a Greater Invocation. "When ya ready squeeze tight ya?" He murmurs absently. His attention is far off, centering on the nearest location he remembers coming through town. With as much essence as he's built he should be able to get them a mile out at least.

He was ready, at her notice to whisk them to what one could hope would be safety, but at the very least wouldn't be ground zero for an inferno.

Victoria, JC, Dylan and Andrew step outside, but the view is very different from when they went in.  Across the street, what was once a fast-food restaurant, is now a crater in the ground.  Weapons fire is visible less than a click away, and approaching fast.  A quick assessment indicates that the AoR has the USArmy in retreat, and are chasing down those fleeing.  Above you the sound of a plane draws your attention.  Looking up, you see a winged human, impaled on the nose of a military jet as the jet spirals down from the skies directly towards you.

Jacynth summons forth the Element Fire, and ignites the gas in the kitchen just as Thierry pulls her through the kitchen doorway in which he has created a Gateway that leads as far as possible, only barely hearing JC's voice as he shouts, "WAIT!", as he and the others dive back into the building, seeking cover from the spiralling jet.

Whether it was divinity, a mixture of essence from the various spells and the death of an angel, or something other, you'll never know... what you do know is that as Jacynth and Thierry step through the gateway from one side, the rest are blown through the other side of the expanding gateway....

You find yourselves emerging in a jungle, next to a river.  There is only the peaceful sound of songbirds, the humming of insects, and the lapping of water against rock and sand.  The sound of battle is long past, replaced by the sounds of paradise.  Afterlife?  Or someplace other?
