Squad Fury

On the one hand, the lack of voices in his head from terrifying warp monsters has possessed Corvus with a lot of clarity, but also a lot of boredom since he's done far less random things that the voices have told him. Now, going through his weapons locker, carefully selecting his gear for slaying the ork hordes. Flamers, heavy bolters, power swords, these would all be good choices, but super boring. Force guitar, mastercraftedrelicpower stick, kundarian ping-pong rifle, all too exotic, perhaps too much of a challenge to use. Best to go with basics then. His armored hand picked up his bolt pistol, a trusty and useful side arm, a bit more kick then most sidearms, but not so much for an Astartes. Then the standard issue bolt gun, mildly customized aesthetically, the iron sight shaped into a middle finger, the entire gun painted glaringly purple. 6 magazines for each should be sufficient, any more would be too much weight, and less would likely lead to an out of ammo situation, as orks are known for literally shooting anything. Next the chainsword, the standard tool of an Astartes at war, looking over the blade and looking at another of his minor mods, the simple text along the blade "If you can read this, you're fucking dead.", and the purple teeth. With that, the Intoxicator, and his combat knife, melee needs should be taken care of. The last thing a simple brown duffle bag, loaded with grenades, frags, kraks, plasma, incendiary, spike, psyko, confetti, jarate, any kind you might need, but absolutely no organization for it.

With all his gear readied, the Intoxicator in bottle form in a pouch on his waist, chainsword maglocked to his left hip, bolt pistol to the right thigh, and the comabt knife and bolter on his back below his armor's generator, the mags all mag locked inside his massive pauldrons. And with that, he waltzed down to the cargo bay, ready to start the slaughter. He took a spot on the wall next to Fury, and took a drink from the Intoxicator.

" So, what's the passcode for my leash? Go go, Chaos Sorceror? By the power of Chaos, I have the power? It's PSYKING time? C'mon, I might need that, you know, active warzone and all."

"Nah. I've noticed you like those dumbass shows, so I went with 'Releasing Restraint Level One.' Only at the start say 'Specter Code.'" Fury looked at the collar and quick spoke again. "Null. Sorry, but I have a feeling if I don't say that, you'll throw the whole code out and just fry your ability to taste things again."

"Anyhow, glad you showed up. Try not to make too much noise during the briefing."

Three gulps of whisky, first to forget space, second for courage in the field of battle, and third for if she doesn't return. With her little preload out ritual done she gets to work.

Mag-Tay looked through the available weapons, the Chakram launcher was tempting but lacked real versatility. The Phaeston however was a different story, after all only a fool would say that turian's didn't know their weapons.

The clutch pick shotgun would have to stay here with the launcher, in favor of the Venom. Never know when you need a grenade luncher after all, especially with the number of Orcs we're expecting.

Her silent partners A pair of shock knives and corresponding shock blades, found their usual sheaths awaiting them. The blades across the back in an X, and the knives were tucked away in the pauldrons. In each armpit lay a pistol, four Paladins, much like the shock blades more for a personal presence than anything. Leaving the hips for the shot gun and assault rifle.

With the weapons set it was time to upload the missions omni powers. The Tactical Cloak (20%) was rarely ever a poor choice for her line of work, Carnage (30%) however was more of an insurance policy that she hoped she wouldn't need. She pondered for a moment if she should save room for both the Recone Mine (30%) and the grenade but settled for just the mine. To round out her arsenal Incendiary rounds(20%), as by this point she realized she had little for armored foes.

And now with an hour or two before landing, she finishes off her whisky.

Advar: "A black widow? Ay lad we got those. Hell lad we got pretty much every gun from te citadel. There be some in locker 54, let me open it for ya."

Advar activates his omni-tool, and locker 54 opens revealing two widows and two black widows.

At this time Caslius enters followed by 19 others. 12 of them are veterans that have fought under Fury and survived. Six of them, Benard Ruther (Human Male), Margeret Stouse (Human Female), Aizo Toshi (Human Male), Richard Kurth (Human Male), Labia Epocus (Turian Female), and Agrius Varnus (Turian Male), were your typical front line soldiers. Just tell them where to go and what to shoot and they were happy.

Two of them, a large man named Mfundo Dabuka (human) and a small woman, Susan Brice(human), were heavy weapon specialist. Mfundo always carried a Typhoon and a cobra missile launcher while Susan is a pyromaniac who favors the Firestorm. She also always takes the omni-flamer as well as Incendiary rounds for her Hurricane SMG.

Markus Cross (Human), is a demolitions specialist, and Tulllus Paetion (turian male) as well as Vorsin Vaeks (salarian male) are proficient snipers. All three are infiltrators.

The last, Zarina Leoz (Asari), serves as Caslius' second. She is a former Asari commando.

Which leaves the other seven. Fury checks their dossiers. The first six are all human.

Joseph Dredd, former c-sec security, fired for exceptional use of violence.

John Rehart, former c-sec security, quit.

Jenny Perkins, former ganger.

Kale Seets, former ganger.

Tim Thompson, former UCSC soldier, retired.

Rodriguez ElCazorro, former adventure?

The last to show up was a Krogan (Male), Drartak Rug, former blood pack.

All are present and awaiting the briefing.

OOC: When Caslius mentioned that there were 20 able men and women available in an older post he was including himself.

Nobeard goes to the locker and pulls out a Black Widow and places it on his back. Then he goes to his locker and pulls out his Anti-Eldar Force Axe And placed it on his non-Eldar back. Even though it hums with hunger.

Then he stands ready to listen to the briefing.

Drake let no expression show as he began. "Most of you present have already had their trial by fire under my command and lived. The rest of you are not rookies, and have seen battle in other fronts. That's good, because I am regularly deployed to some of the most dangerous zones in the galaxy. My tours have made me the man I am today."

He brought up his omni-tool and showed a basic hologram of an ork. "We are fighting orks on planet Shepherd. They are rather akin to pre-turian krogan in temperament and tactics: favoring horde strategies and brutal frontal assaults, along with high collateral shock-and-awe strategies designed to inflict damage largely for its own sake. They are brutal to their prisoners, when they bother taking them, and don't seem to understand the concept of a noncombatant. Everyone in this unit will be armed: the rules and customs of war do not apply in our operation, of which I am certain Vorsin will be glad to hear."

He brought up images of their weapons, both the choppy and the shoota. "In hand to hand, they are tough as rocks and hit like them too. Their projectile weapons are a high powered solid shell weapon that is powered by some kind of psychic bullshit they have, so we can't even salvage and use the damn things unless orcs are around. Even then, they jam a lot when we try to use them, so don't bother. They are war trophies only, and tools of desperation at best."

He brought up further images of the Big Choppy and Big Shoota, as well as their Rokkit Launcher and Burna. "Their weaponry is primitive in appearance, but don't be fooled: I've seen these things do a lot more damage than comparable weapons should. Their blades are sharp enough to damage Alliance armor, and combined with their prodigious strength are unpleasant to be hit with."

He switched to a hologram of a grot. "They have a smaller, more numerous cousin around them they call grots. These nasty little bastards are more numerous, and are the unit most likely to be encountered off the front lines in support roles the warriors can't be bothered with. Unlike their larger kin, these things are actually good shots, but much weaker in hand to hand. Cowards, one and all, but dangerous and rather resourceful. Kill them fast if possible; they might break and run."

He then switched to a squig. "These are their attack dogs and livestock, their all purpose animal of choice. When they aren't eating them, they are cutting them loose to sniff out enemies and chaos battlefield chaos. Often they are rigged with proximity explosives to rather unpleasant effect, like a living tracking landmine."

He changed to a side by side image of both a Killa Kan and a Deff Dred. "We will be likely seeing all three, and perhaps some extra surprises, like their warmachines, as well as repurposed vehicles. We will not be near the front lines of engagement if I have a say on this, so we should not be engaging their mobile armor. Our job is to rescue a volus scientist from them. Why they took him alive is beyond me, but they did, and last heard he is somehow still alive, with his suit intact. They have holed up in a hospital, and we will receive more on the ground information when we arrive on site."

He casually brought up images of their war bikes and deffcoptas as he continued speaking. "The usual will apply: avoid direct engagement save under necessity, keep your exit open, don't leave our own behind. The difference is their armor is normally inferior...save one circumstance."

He showed a hologram of a Warboss in Mega Armor. "They outfit the biggest of their kind in these warsuits, turning them into techno-organic monstrosities. These things can destroy buildings, are effectively similar to the Ymir, and should be battled similarly. Only they are a bit faster on the front side, so be advised. Kill their support, on and off their armor, and hit their vast blind spots with ordinance. Or just blow their eyes out with sniper fire."

He showed picts of himself and Corvus trashing orks with the weapons he waas about to describe. "That's what you are fighting. Bring high punch assault weapons for the job, and weapons that can shred metal and armor. They rarely use advanced tech unless it is stolen, so for the most part, leave that behind along with MOST of the anti-shield tech. If they bring a shield somehow, just switch to a full auto weapon and saturate it with bullets."

He deactivated his omni-tool, and returned his hands behind his back. He let his eyes flash red for a moment. "You are the finest the galaxy could offer, and I expect you to deliver when we land. The specifics of the planet itself are well known, so study well to avoid any surprises like heightened gravity, terrifying flesh-rending storms, or toxic atmospheres. Any questions, beyond 'where the hell are they so we can kill them already?'"

Corvus looked over the new recruits, analyzing their chances of different deaths, realizing most would die to bullet to neck, or the constant cause of being much to close to a Chaos Sorcerer who thinks the only setting is full power. One or two may be dragged off by a the bondage elves to be tortured then offered to the Dark Prince so she won't eat them. But a few they might make it, the Krogan, Dredd, ElCazorro, the Asari, they struck him as survivors. While he was doing all his mental math, Fury was droning on about actual tactical information, Corvus was noting the important parts that weren't mentioned. After the last bit of information, it was time for the Corvus show, a spectacular combination of useful information and sweet magic special effects.

"Alright kids. While the boss man has told you the basics, it's time for my unique insights I've picked up in my travels. And of course, all vacation stories require slides!"

Corvus raised his arms, focusing the images in his mind.

"Behold the power I bring!"

And nothing.

"ABRACAFUCKINGWORK!"

Nope.

"HOCUSGODSDAMNIT!"

Still nothing chief.

"PRESTOISWEARTHISNEVERHAPPENS!"

And then Corvus remembers the collar, choking his powers off.

"Err, right, forgot that we aren't allowed to summon unlimited cosmic power on the ship. Pretend that there are living images of big green monsters here, ok? So important ork facts that haven't been covered yet. First things first, orks while some will get as big as our scaly friends the Krogan, do not get those neat redundant organs, so standard kill methods apply. And while all evidence is to the contrary, they do use their brains, so headshots do work."

"Fun ork fact #2, the biggest ones are in charge. Also they love fighting, all they live for. So, should you find yourself outnumbered, challenge the biggest one to a one on one. I mean, you'll probably still die, but if you win you might prove to them that you should be in charge."

"Important and useful fact C, A lone ork is superstitious and cowardly, a mob of orks is fearless beyond all reason, willing to charge directly into a volcano even if a smarter creature would know not to. I suspect it's a continuation of their racial psychic ability, it could also just be a pack mentality from their overwhelming stupidity. Also, the stupider looking the weapon they bring, the deadlier that weapon probably is. Oh, remember the one with the vacuum gun that shot the little ones, until it messed up and launched himself directly into a brick wall. Good times."

And with that, Corvus returned to his wall, and looked at his wrist, as if there was a watch there.

" If anyone else has any insights, Advar some additional tech notes, Nobeard any prophetic visons you've had, Spider-man... wait, we are short a few arms here. It would figure one of the better stealth operatives would go missing. Anyway we should make planetfall soon, anyone who suddenly developed an allergy to untimely and painful death can go ahead and get off the ship now."

Mag-Tay quietly hangs from the ceiling, letting her dull buzz give her that cozy piece of mind as Fury and subsequently Corvus spoke about the enemy they'd be killing today. Fury was straight forward and informative as always, and Corvus also as always made her wonder...If one, she should take him seriously and two how much of that was remotely accurate. "Never can tell with him sometimes." Now that the briefing was effectively concluded, she made her way to her quarters for final preparations.

Bloody, Bloody, Bloody, Nobeard's vision blurs, you see a farm of fungus and enemies as green as orks but not orks. Their visage to faded to make out. There is an explosion of metal, plasma, confetti, and waffles? Your mind jumps forward, to a jungle world, a civil war, and a blade of blood. A relic of legend that spells doom for all. Your mind jumps again, to a world of ice. Underground a secret so ancient none alive have confronted it before, and a figure, standing 10ft tall and wearing ancient rune encrusted armor. The figure turns, and its crimson eyes stare straight into yours. BEGONE!

Nobeard comes to, back in the cargo the briefing finished. Only Corvus notices Nobeard's state but says nothing. The intercom chimes and you hear the voice of helmsman Mikhailov.

"Sir, we have landed, opening the cargo door now."

The doors open, lowering a ramp down to the surface of the landing pad. Everyone departs, at the bottom of the ramp stand a krogan. He greets fury.

"Specter Fury I presume. I am Major Veklan Garv, please follow me."

He leads you into Normandy military base. Inside the sound of artillery dampens but the vibrations let you know just how close the battle is. You make it to the command room, and Garv stops.

"Specter Fury, you can bring one other in with you. The rest will have to wait here."

Major Garv stares at Corvus for a few seconds.

"........Ok?........um, follow me."

The command room is large with many tables each containing some electrical device and an attendant managing them. The back of the room is a giant window canvas which gives you full view of the eastern side of the city. At the center is a table that is a giant map grid depicting the surrounding area. A sea of red icons on the eastern side of the map indicates the enemy. Behind the table stands a man (human) in full combat armor. The insignia on his shoulder ranks him as a brigadier-general. He looks at fury.

"Sorry Specter, Urdnot Wrex will be with us soon, just be patient."

10 minutes later. A roar on the side of the room gets your attention. Wrex come barging through a side door, yelling into his comms.

"To hell with your honor Nakmor! If you don't fall back to the gate I will let your entire clan know that it was your idiocy that got most of their warriors killed and we can see where your honor goes from there! Do I make myself clear!...........You're damn right I am."

He hangs up and turns toward you both. He notices Corvus first but seems to not care about the hat.

"A Legionnaire here? I thought all of you were knee deep in ork sh%t on the other side of the planet."

Major Garv holds up a hand.

"Sir, he's with Specter Fury."

"Really, the Legion actively working with the citadel, times must be hard? Anyway back to subject."

He turns to Fury

"Specter, Your mission is recover a scientist by the name of Bofnan Can and get him off the planet by any means. The Citadel probably kept it classified but i'll tell you strait. He's our lead scientist on how the hell the Warp works, so yeah he's kind of important. He was last seen at Vadar hospital located here."

He brings up a map of the location

"Its located 153 miles east of here. Major Garv will supply you with ground vehicles for your mission and an air assertion is out of the question. Those Ork AA guns down anything flying 30 miles in. Any questions?"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nobeard and Mag-Tay are joined by Tulllus as well as Vorsin for some sniping duty. The rest of your forces make their way to the mess hall. It doesn't take long to find the ramparts and get to business. Noticing you don't have an actual sniper rifle, Tulllus offers the use of his. Nobeard takes the first shot and while aiming you spot plenty of targets, but its what is out of range that grabs your attention. At the very back you spot massive artillery cannons, to big and far away for your rifle to do anything. Your precognitive senses kick in making you realize that those guns are aimed directly at the the command room.

He paused at Mag-Tay's transmission, using playback software to make sure he understood. He now had a different question for Wrex. "This building, can it take a sustained bombardment? Because I've got word it's going to."

At this point, Nobeard arrived and delivered his verbal message. "Thank you for that. Wrex, Nobeard. Nobeard, Wrex. He's my precog specialist, and a good field pilot. Now, clarify and be calm - will they simply hit us, or destroy this building?"

In response to Fury's question one of the tenants hits a switch and armored shutters close over the windows. Wrex responds to Fury's question.

"If their artillery can breach here than they can breach anywhere so you might want to brace for impact."

One of the tenants calls out.

"Sir our guns have the enemy artillery targeted and are opening fire."

You hear the sound of multiple artillery cannons firing.

"Sir the enemy artillery has fired! Incoming 5 shells!"

You hear the whistling of approaching warheads and brace, 5 repeated thumps are heard around you but no sound of an explosion. After a few seconds Wrex comments.

"Damage Report?"

Tenant: "Sir they impacted but did not detonate. Wait something is wrong? A shell landed right on top of us but....... Oh shit! Everyone get o..."

The sealing explodes and a giant drill slams down on the poor SOB, crushing him. the drill continues until it is fully submerged in the floor. Above is a massive ram-shackled vehicle with a large hatch. The hatch opens and Orks poor out into the command room. How many total is not clear. A massive Ork decked out from head to toe in heavy armor also appears out of the hatch and the first thing he notices is Corvus. With a great bellow of WAAAAAAHHHHHHHGGGGG!!!! he charges wielding a Big Choppa.

OOC: The Nob is a THREAT and there are about ten boys between him and you guys. So getting a good shot off on him wont happen until he gets in the thick of it with Corvus.

Mag-Tay, on the roof. Two incoming shells impact around you in explosions of dust rather than fire. The other three land somewhere in the distance. When the dust clears you see a large ugly machine on top of the command center with a massive drill drilling into it. Vorsin points out to another roof 30 yards across from you.

"There's another one."

On the neighboring roof below you is indeed another machine and it too is trying to drill inside. One of the side hatches of the machine opens up and Orks start poring out. Cleary impatient to descend the now forming hole. They do not notice you. You can hear similar commotion on top of the command center but you don't have a good view from your position. Tulllus and Vorsin ready their rifles. Tulllus asks.

"So should we take the shots or meet up with the others?"

Drake's reaction to the chaos around him was outward irritation and inward excitement. He drew his Pheaston and turned the cloak online. It wouldn't eliminate him as a target or stop him from being hit with accidental fire, but it would reduce his profile and make him both less desirable and less likely to be hit.

He swept his assault rifle in a broad arc, aiming to cut the orcs between Corvus and this large orc down. He hoped the support personnel around them had the sense to get their heads down during a firefight, because if they didn't he probably just blew their heads off if they were anywhere near the orcs. He moved into a position with a wall to his back, and started to circle the large orc with eyes for Corvus, resolving to move in on the orc's back to help Corvus bring it down.

Bored, so bored, blah blah blah, point out I'm awesome, blah blah, save scientist researching the Warp, blah blah... wait a sec, I'm the number one Warp specialist in the entire Alliance. They can't learn things, then I'm less useful, and more likely to wind up having to go back to the Warp and my vacation would be over! Oh look, here comes Nobeard to talk about nonsense in his ridiculous accent. No one's going to believe him, I mean, he doesn't even sound French. Was he saying something important? Wasn't paying attention. Wait, artillery? Finally something to do!

Corvus unslings his bolter as his train of thought is interrupted by the ceiling exploding and a green wave coming in, with a big one also recognizing Corvus as the hugest in the room, mostly due to being wider the Wrex. He released a burst of fire at the Nob, maybe clipping a boy or two by accident, not caring one way or the other weather they die. And then, with the fluent Orkish he learned on Promethea by eating an Ork or ten, he issued his challenge while drawing his chainsword and revving it.

"Oi, you weedy git, you couldn't krump a grot, much less a spiky boy!"

Now, the trick is weather or not Fury remembered the usual rule of Corvus challenging things to duels. Which is he's just getting them to look the wrong way so it's eaier to make them catch a bullet with their skull.

"Take the shots, I'll see if I can stop that drill." She activates her stealth field and moves down in spider like grace to the drill, Servitors primed to attack if she is noticed before she is done. After a moment of examining the "vehicle" she places several charges on it, in what she believes to be weak points.

(if she is noticed then she starts killing orks with her assault rifle in her upper arms and knives in her lower.)

Squad Fury

On the Roof

Tulllus and Vorsin fire, taking out two orks via head shots which get their attention and a lot of loud return fire. Luckily this means the orks don't notice you as you sneak up on the machine and place the charges. After about two charges placed, a massive ork Nob comes out of the machine and looks directly at you. Instead of a right eye he has crude red optic that gives you the impression he can see you. The fact that he aims a large seven barreled gun directly at you lets you know exactly that he can see your "cloaked" ass. You start to dive behind some heavy industry air conditioning units when he opens fire. Even though his aim is bad, the amount of rounds that come out of this monster cause a couple of hits to land. Depleting your already reduced shields but luckily your armor withstands the rest. You notice Tulllus and Vorsin are pined behind the roofs edge and can only manage a few shots in between burst of fire. The orks are also starting to climb the wall while the Nob continues firing on your position. Your cover is sturdy so he can't get a direct hit on you yet.

The Command Room

The room explodes in a chorus of gunfire and screams as your team and solders on guard duty unload into the mass of green.

Corvus manages to down two orks with precision head shots before the Nob reaches him. The Nob swings his big choppa at Corvus' head but you manage to block it with your chainsword. The grinding teeth cause sparks to fly as you deflect his blow and counter with an attack to his chest. The strike doesn't penetrate his armor but it does enrage the Nob. The Nob then tackles Corvus into a wall.

After downing a couple of orks himself. Fury notices that the Nob is now away from the rest of the Orks. Fury fires into his side. Sadly the nobs armor withstands the shots and most rounds bounce. The rounds that hit his helmet do cause the Nob to stumble giving Corvus the chance to break free from the Nobs grapple.

Nobeard fires the Gar and blows the head off one ork, you fire again and knock another ork on his back. The third ork gets right on top of you. You fire, but the shot is off and you blow off the orks hand holding a slugga. The ork swings its choppa and knocks the Gar out of your hands and then makes another swing toward your head. With your quick reflexes you grab your axe and deflect the blow. You noticed the ork you shot earlier get back up and he too is charging you. You are now stuck in melee.
