Please keep in mind that Scholarship is the skill that reflects your character's knowledge of history, cultures, literature and languages.  It also should reflect your character's mundane education.

Most police detectives and definitely all FBI have a bachelor's degree.  Many have additional degrees related to their specialties.

In reply to Atsa Spotted-Horse (msg # 3):

Actually, I think it's at average right now.   I would suggest bumping it up to at least +2.  Good would also be reasonable.  Scholarship is the skill that you use for forensics, law and academic research.  Scholarship would be used to find out if there outstanding warrants on an NPC.  Which seem like things that would be important for Asta's FBI skill set.

The other thing is Empathy.  I think FBI agents have special training on how to read people.   Keep in mind that Empathy is a social defense roll and helps Asta know when someone is lying to him.

Welcome Branwen.

Dresden Files Your Story, page 129:
Social Defense
Empathy
Use Empathy as a defense in a social conflict (though it isn’t the only skill that can be used this way). In particular, you must use Empathy to defend against Deceit as you try to sort out truth from fiction in what you’re hearing.

I would recommend having Empathy on your skill list somewhere.

Director, thanks for letting me join your game! This is a character I've wanted to play for a while. I did get him into a game here years ago, but it died before the first scene played out.

Or, if you prefer, you could help me deal with some vampires who are taking homeless children. At first, it looks like a small group of Red Court, but it turns out there is a Black Court vampire behind it.

Currently, I have Branwen helping track down where the kids are vanishing and then working with a local church to grant them sanctuary to protect them while the vampires' operation is shut down.

Emmaline - Aria could pay you for the fisticuff help.

Warren - Aria could give you cover in your approach - either veiling or mind shielding.  Alternately she could rustle up some of the black's victims for other forms of help.

How about a mix. A thaumaturgical mind shield before I head in combined with some aid of the vengeful ghost variety.

With both Aria and Branwen providing remote support, Warren would be much more likely to succeed. That works for me.

The big question is, what Aspects do you pick up for your involvement in my story? I picked up Guardian of Innocence.

You get an Aspect for each story you Guest Star in. So one from being in Warren's story and another from your second Guest Star role.

I like Friend of the Friendless, I can see a number of ways to compel and invoke it. And it ties directly into what you want her to be so excellent!

MY STORY: Gifts of the Tengu King
When Musashi finally begin his plans for international expansion he finds himself beset on all fronts. Business competitors seek to buy his company out from under him, foreign monsters lurk in every shadow, and Sōjōbō presents him with a gift and task that will push every skill and asset he has past their threshold. Will the Samurai of the Boardroom manage to keep up with this deadly dance or will he go bankrupt in more ways than one?

Phase Five: Guest Starring in Gifts of the Tengu King
When Musashi's quest brings him to Columbia, South Carolina, he discovers an unlikely ally in Warren Reese. When Musashi is attacked by a number of Renfields, Warren destroys the attackers and reveals that they were sent by Ivanka Polsky, a Black Court Matriarch. Somehow she is involved in the shadowy web that opposes Musashi.
     Aspect: "I am firepower!"

Does that look okay? I'm quite willing to make changes as needed.

Director, do you want us creating NPCs that you can use? Ivanka Polsky, for example, is someone I could see returning. I would like to make her the Black Court vampire that was involved in Burning Knight. And, if you want, I can give you more information about Ivanka.

I'm pretty sure that arcane items and potions are going to be thamaturgy focused and metallurgy is going to be craftsmenship to do the actual making of things and resources for th workspace and materials. If you are going to be making metalurgy type stuff then i would put a focus in earth and fire magic as well depending on what you are trying to make. You will also want to purchase the refinment ability several times to increase the number and strength of your enchanted arsenal. The rules are on 278 specifically for making things.

Make sure you have Craftsmanship and Lore as two of your better skills.

When picking Stunts, obviously take Thaumaturgy. Refinement will be of great use. When taking your Specialization with Thaumaturgy take either Frequency or Strength. If you want, pick up additional Specialization points with Refinement. Alternatively, use Refinement to get additional slots for items or potions.

With one point of Refinement, you could have Thaumaturgy specializations of Strength +1 and Frequency +2. This would make your items a bit stronger and let you use them three times per session instead of once per session as a base.

With both Evocation and Thaumaturgy you get 4 focus item slots for free. Each of these slots could be turned into 2 enchanted item or potion slots.

Emmaline, I was just looking at your current build. Lore is of great importance for an enchanter as your Lore gives the baseline strength of your enchanted items and potions. You really want it higher than Fair (+2). I would recommend Superb (+5) for your Lore.

Discipline isn't used in Crafting. Due to the time required in Crafting, you don't need to control the energy. Other forms of Thaumaturgy will use Discipline for control as well your Evocation spells.

Re: OOC CHAT

Sorry, my guest star slots were taken by Aria O'Baird and Branwen Isaacs.

I'm a guest star in Branwen Isaacs' Angel with Black Wings and Musashi Muramasa's Gifts of the Tengu King.

As the Director said, I believe there is a slot in Musashi's story. I'm pretty sure Branwen still has a slot open as well.

Re: OOC CHAT

you can also have a guest appearance with one of the characters that have all their 'spots filled'.  The character with the spots filled just won't get an aspect from it.

They will, however, get a Fate point for their community effort :)

Also, if you have any particular feed back about things you like or don't like from your introduction--shoot me a PM.  I will be working on the new chapter some time this evening (hopefully).

I am moving to Kansas on Friday.  I will probably have internet access at night, and I will try to keep things moving along.  By the time I arrive on Monday, things are going to start in full swing.

So use the time to introduce yourselves and tie up any loose character ends.

After that, I will introduce you to the group at their earliest convenience.

Commander Morgan is not a patient person. ;-)

By the way, you may want to send Branwen Isaacs a PM or rMail. She hasn't posted in over a month and hasn't even signed into the game in almost two weeks. Unless she sent you a PM regarding an extended absence, this is the point I begin suspecting a silent drop from the game.

It happens. Every game I've run or played in has had players drop. For some reason games that take a while to get characters made seem to get hit worse than others and I just don't get it. You put in the work to get a character made for a FATE game or Ars Magica and then just drop out before even playing? WTF?

Well, I had some trouble getting things going at my new place.  So while I'm itching to get things going, I understand if people got out of the habit of checking.

I'm hoping we can get back up to about a post a day from everyone.

Emmaline and I are working a few things out, but then she can get hauled in with a lively amount of drama. :)

But I'd like people to be there to ask questions, so it's a little bit of a balancing act to make sure people are active vs steam ahead.

I'll give a day or two to give everyone a chance to post.

Well, that could be going better.

So we seem to have lost a number of people.

As you probably know, this is particularly annoying for Dresden Files because character creation is an ordeal.  Do you want me to push forward just with you guys?

Advertise for new people and have them play and finish characters at the same time?

I'm open to suggestions here.

I would go for the latter. Unfortunately, fading is a real problem on Rpol. I had hoped that Dresden players would not be as vulnerable, but it seems that I was wrong.

Bring in some new players and get started while they make their characters. Do you want us to rework our Guest Star Aspects so we can be tied into the new characters' stories?

Oh, I know someone who would like to join and will stick with the game.

By all means, invite them.  I can't guarantee that I'll be able to work them into the story, but I'm predisposed to like people that come recommended.

I will leave reworking your character up to you.  I know some people really like changing their characters around, and others don't.  I'm willing to take them as is.   But if you like that kind of thing you are welcome to adjust your character while we're getting new people set up.

Really it's just:

ASPECTS
 Guest-Story: The Laws Protect Us
 Guest-Story: "I am firepower!"

These might need to change as they're tied to our links to the other players.

I will let her know to send you an RTJ. She will mention me.

Sorry.  I started a new program and it's been going good but the work load is leaving me dazed at the end of the day.  Like shouldn't be driving tired.  And then they added in teaching.

I think I'm getting the hang of my schedule, but I have not been confident in my ability to type in actual english sentences that make any sense. If you still want to play, I will try to get my act together this weekend.   But I understand if you're frustrated with me at this point.

Oh no, I would love to play. I really want to play Warren. And I completely understand getting burned out by a new schedule. It's just a good idea to give your players some notice before going silent for a month.

I've been dealing with work stress myself. I've barely been able to post to the game I'm running and have had to force myself to post to the games I'm playing in.

If you need more time, please take it. Just let us know. Communication is key in games like this.

okay, I was up until 1 am writing reports.  I will move things forward tomorrow.

Miranda:  I noticed that there are no craft, performance or evidence of hobbies.  You don't have to have one, but you are not impressing anyone with your ability to come up with a sick rhyme, cook, or show off any dance moves.  Additionally, some types of magic are performance or craft based (re: Atsa's sand-painting or the sub-rosa painting in the Paul Revere house).

Besides, even batman has a hobby :)

Otherwise, you're good.

Sorry for the delay, all, and I'm going to have to ask for ongoing patience.  We lost our internet, then our water, then our power at home one basically as soon as the other got fixed.  The power is ongoing but there was enough at the moment to run both my computer and the router, ergo: update.
