In reply to Mender Phantasm (msg # 8):

Fury nearly roars as one man is hit. He holds back the anger, as lashing out blindly would be more harmful than useful in this situation. He focuses on the fear of others, the pain of their wounds, and his own rage building in response. Bathing in those emotions and using them for his power.

He attempts to create a floating Orb of burning red. A plasma creation to both shield him and others from attack, and to be used as a weapon if need be.

"GET BACK AND STAY BEHIND ME!" He roars at the security personal, and moves in front of the wounded man.

Unlike in 'The Underground', the amount of emotional energy Crimson Fury has available on hand is nothing short of astounding. Rage and fear so palpable...he finds little difficulty in shaping. Stepping before the injured, he manifests a seething crimson orb pulsing with phenomenal power capable of withstanding incredible force, providing others near him with the means of avoiding the horrendous fate that has befallen so many...

OOC: With the Doom Pool being '0', there's not much that can prevent CF from creating the asset...and since he's not directly attacking anyone, there's nothing to resist (again, except for the Doom Pool, which is empty). So CF now has an Asset - Crimson Orb D12, which can be used for one reaction (for defense) or action (if used in an attack). With a Plot Point, CF can make it persistent for the scene (or until narratively unfeasible).

While certainly the Zig had seen it's fair share of heat and flame related inmates...unto which UV, formerly knonwn as Corona, was no exception - her time spent on the inside wasn't entirely wasted. Flaring with such intensity and speed, the networked targetting array should fry...or at the very least, be experiencing the worst case of sun-spotted vision that could be technically afflicted.

OOC: Not a whole lot I can pull from. I'll go ahead and buy those two opps, UV gains two PP's. Doom Pool steps up from 2D6 to 2D8. Don't think the Zig's going to beat UV's total so I'm going to try for a high effect die in order to step down the initial complication representing the system being effected...but already working to overcome the complication afflicted.

Zigursky Penitentiary: 3D8 (while still only afflicting a complication, the amount she has to affect is quite large)
Cybernated Senses: D8 (if flare compensation fails, will echolocation and barometric sensors suffice?)
SFX) Multivector Approach: 2D8 convert to 1D10
Mender Phantasm, for the NPC Zigursky Penitentiary, rolled 3,2,9 using d8,d8,d10.  Shielded sensors and backup arrays.

OOC: Oops...okay, that backfired. Not only did the Zig fail, it failed phenomenally - not only was UV successful, her effect die steps up to D10 which effectively complicates out of scene one of the Zig's affiliation die. Zigursky Penitentiary is now a 2D8 Large Scale threat. UV, if you wish, you can spend a PP to rejoin the others.

All over the Detainment Center, circuits fry and resistors blow as UV radiates a profound blast of infrared light...with optics seered, UV has a moment's respite.

OOC: Aegis, Zig and Da Mob are next. Unless UV wants the Zig and/or Mob to go? ^_^

Too intent on his attempt, he didn't notice at first as the systems began to encircle him.  Couldn't really have that.  With a whispered word, he let the darkness of the flickering light grow and envelop him.  Stepping out of the shadows several feet away, he turned away from the cables trying to wrap around the illusion of him.

He had to get to the center, find and stop the dimensional disturbance.  Everything else was just an obstacle in the way; obstacles he needed to overcome and quickly.  Preferably without being attacked, hindered or restrained on the way.  That'd be nice.

He paused, concentrating and summoning some defenses for himself.  He figured it was a reasonable precaution.  He didn't bother looking for weapons or armor.  He could simply make what he needed.

Preventative measure in place, he needed to get a move on.  Unfortunately, he couldn't just go directly there.  He needed a a way past the majority of the obstacles; a way to bypass as many as possible.  A little mystic divination, looking for ways to do short teleportation gateways...  But he needed to hurry the hell up one way or another.

Nice way to explain how he got out of the cables, creative and still didn't ruin the narrative. Nice work! :) Consequently, go ahead and gain a Plot Point for the '1' you rolled. The Doom Pool steps up and is now D10 and D8.

While stepping out of the shadows, never once actually being threatened by the murderous cables seemingly determined to strangle the life out of...the air they currently coil fiercely around, Aegis musters arcane energies to imbue himself with a degree of mystical protection from the nonsensical free-for-all happening all around the Detainment Center...he certainly didn't have time for this, and if he didn't hurry - neither would anyone else.

OOC: The calamitous environment makes for poor concentration and gesticulation, the full blown riot threatens to intervene with Aegis' efforts even if not attacked directly.

Doom Pool: D10, D8
Full Blown Riot!: D8
Mender Phantasm, for the NPC the calamitous scene, rolled 10,4,5 using d10,d8,d8.  the full blown riot may intervene with spellcasting.
Total: 15
Effect: D8
Opps: 0

OOC: Just as a head's up, only one action is allowed per player during their turn (unless you're rolling for a reaction and an action) so we'll go ahead and use this result against Aegis attempt to conjure some sort of mystical protection. In order to perform more than one action (or get more than one result), a Plot Point must be spent in order to acquire another effect die. In this particular instance - you could spend a Plot Point and use another die from your Dice Pool as a means to armor up and teleport out...but you also only had four dice in your Dice Pool, one of which was an Opportunity and can't be used in either Total or Effect. That only left you with three die...and if you used your two highest (9+7=16), you only have a D8 left for effect (which you succeed, by the way)...just no dice left over for a secondary effect.

The air crackles and shimmers around Aegis as his weaves a pattern conjuring a translucent barrier between himself and would-be assailants, various bits of debris are deflected without giving them a second thought. Secure in the knowing he has some means of protection, Aegis proceeds to attempt to establish a means to pass through the madness but finds himself tapped at the current time and moment...unable to muster the mystical forces to his beck and call. If he wanted to do more...he was going to have to tap more. Risky, certainly, but no more or less risky than where he was at right now.

OOC: Aegis now has an Asset "Mage Armor D8" and like Crimson Fury, you can spend a Plot Point to make it persistent throughout this scene - otherwise, it's a one shot asset...and now, it's time for the Zig and the Mob to go. :D

Amid the turmoil, one of the inmates has the wherewithal to look up and shout, "Corona! Alright! Light it up and let's blow this joint!" "She's a SNITCH!" "Zig don't think so...c'mon, Corona, lend a hand!" As much as UV would care to admit, she sees some familiar faces...many of which shouldn't see the light of day, but...this isn't incarceration, it's execution.

OOC: The desperate inmates try to convince UV to help them escape, playing on her criminal background. While certainly everyone in the Zig is there for a reason...these inmates are getting murdered. Does she take their advice and try to help them break free? How far could any of them really get?

Mob of Inmates: 2D6
Desperate: D8
Mender Phantasm, for the NPC mob of inmates, rolled 4,3,3 using d6,d6,d8.  inflict emotional complication - devil's advocate.
Total: 7
Effect: D8
Opps: 0

OOC: Essentially, this complication will only come into play if UV attempts to do anything against the inmates. If she's effected, this complication will intervene with attempts to subdue the riot. If it builds beyond D12+, she may very well decide to help the inmates escape! :O

"I...thought I told ya...*cough*...ta git ta th' Armory!" winces the Warden through clenched teeth as Windwalker arrives in the attempt to render aid. He digs into his vest with trembling hand and pulls out a card and says, "Yer…*cough*...gonna need this...hero." He presses the card into Tensing's hand before his eyes roll up and goes limp...

OOC: The Warden provides Tensing with a one-shot D8 Asset - Warden's Security Card before succumbing to 'Old Wounds'. The Warden loses consciousness...and is now at D6 Physical Trauma. A D6 is added to the Doom Pool, it is now D10, D8 & D6.

The Zig pauses for a moment to assess the situation, seeing it's potential diminished somewhat...it resorts to initializing backups and restores formerly disabled systems. All about the Detainment Center, the sound of grinding and scraping metal can be heard as various newer implements are brought to bear...along one particular monitor, a message flashes...

**BACKUPS INITIALIZED...RESTORE PROTOCOLS INITIATED**

The Zig recovers it's lost affiliation die by spending a Doom Die. The Zig was designed to contain...which includes means to recover from possible breakout attempts, this one notwithstanding. The Zig is now back up to 3D8. I would be a prat, since it's the end of the turn, to have the Zig and Mob act first next turn...but I'm not feeling very pratty. Okay, need a reaction roll from UV...and it's action time for the heroes again. :D

UV looked at the inmates and thought about what she might do if she had been behind the bars when the riot had started. But she wasn't. She was supposed to be responsible now and keep the inmates behind bars. What were you supposed to do when the bars started attacking those they were meant to protect and keep safe, at least from themselves and society? She decided that wholesale slaughter was not the order of the day. Turning to those that look like the leaders of the group, she turned on her best supervillain tone. Crimson beams streak across the scene, striking prevalent adversaries left and right...oft at near indescribable angles as the radiant beams unerringly blast their respective targets. While still not a sufficient enough number to quell the riot, there certainly seem to be a significant fewer inmates willing to organize and orchestrate activities. Without direction, the riot will most assuredly play out...but the riot wasn't the only problem.

Crimson, you get a plot point for the opportunity you rolled - the Doom Pool steps up to D12 and D8. You exceeded their defense roll by 5 so you could step up either one of your effect die, but D10's are all that's needed...so the instigators of the mob are out. This does mean that while there is still a riot going on, it's not going to build anymore.

As various defenses fire off from around him and the riot degrades into an all out free-for-all...Tensing manages, almost beyond comprehension, to steal away the Warden to momentary safety and render aid to his injuries before his condition declined any worse than he was. Under more appropriate settings, his injuries would've been relatively easy to deal with...alas, this was all but the most ideal setting. Still, despite the noise and ever looming possibility of severe injury...using ancient techniques and nerve suppression, Tensing actually manages to get the Warden stable, but only just.

Well, you did succeed and even though my effect die was higher...D6 is still enough to stabilize him. The Warden should be able to make a full recovery if he can attain a full Transition Scene without incident...and now it's the opposition's go, I'm blowing 2D12 to end the scene. I know, I'm heartless...

At the start, spending 2D12 to end the scene - UV, CF and WW, all three of you gain 2 XP for my D12 expenditure.

A subtle hiss, just beyond normal hearing range suddenly ramps up to a muffled roar as gas pours in through almost every conceivable vent like a malfunctioning vacuum cleaner. UV and Crimson Fury notice it first...and it's clear by the reactions of the inmates that it's been pumping in gradually for sometime. The yellowish haze begins to obscure practically everyone and everything...Aegis being one them as he disappears under the wave of noxious fog. Nerve gas, perhaps...non-lethal in moderate doses - this, however, was not a moderate dose.

Remaining doesn't seem like a viable option...the Warden, for starters, would not survive. UV notes that this isn't 'the worst' thing that could possibly happen...the system, and whoever's enabling it, have access to means and measures that could nullify almost any existing power...so the fact that it hasn't happened to UV, CF and Tensing yet only means one thing: they're being studied to find out their breaking point.

Crimson Fury seems to be the only one no worse for wear in the fetid fog, but while the vapor holds no immediate threat to him...he steadily loses sight of the others as everything slowly fades from view...

Okie-dokie, feel free to post conclusions as far as your character's involvement in this particular section of 'The Zig' and get ready for a scene change. A few questions need answered such as...since almost everyone was operating solo (except for Tensing), how do you manage to stay together and get out? As explained in the book regarding closing a scene with 2D12, and not that I'm playing favorites, but it didn't seem like the heroes were 'winning'. Certainly, the main instigators of the riot were brought down...but there was a still a full blown riot going on. UV did cause the system some damage, but it recovered via backups. The Warden was stabilized, but it appears that Aegis was lost. In a situation such as this, is generally encouraged to have the players input how they feel they managed to escape the situation...and what it cost them. Dun-dun-dun! :D

Scene: Detainment Center, Zigursky Penitentiary

Fury's aura had handled space before. He had flown up out of the atmosphere and to the bottom of the ocean once, and he had been fine both times. The energy aura his anger created protected from more than just physical force. It sustained him beyond any physical need...he literally fed on anger.

Despite that, he knew many of his allies could not do the same. As a result he created an energy corridor to keep out most of the gas-or as much of it that he could. Then the others could travel the tunnel and move to the outside like an airlock on a sub. He would remain floating over the structure and keep and eye out for possible assaults on his energy construct.

(OOC-Spending a PP to activate my SFX. Already included in my bio line.

Edit-what do I roll for making the gas proof tunnel? Standard asset roll? Its for others...)

UV looked around in panic. The gas was starting to affecting her. Her nerves were burning with every breath. Determined not to let the prison get the better of her, UV concentrated on getting out of the situation. Turning on a burst of speed, she streaked through the facility, desperately looking for someone, anyone, that could help her escape. She had tried and failed and linking up with the others was the only chance she had.

The insistent (nearly assaulting) images from her otherworldly senses all but drove her to the penitentiary.  Iah, she called to the Lord of the Moon, slow down!  A rapid-fire barrage threatened to overwhelm her.

She made her way into the prison and conjured the arcane symbols in the air.  The sigils illuminated the passageway with moonlight only she could see.

The chemical smell of the gas used tickled her nose.  She spied an unconscious guard and removed her mask, donning it herself.  While the lenses narrowed her field of vision, she had ancient magicks to guide her.

OOC: Spend a PP to secure a gas mask.

Sister Moon rolled 3,3,4,3 using d10,d8,d8,d8.  Use Senses to locate UV.

Solo D10, Chosen One of Iah D8, Enhanced Senses D8, Mystic Expert D8
Total: 7, Effect D10

This is my MHR game, so hopefully I've done this correctly!

Seeing the gass Tensing know he must get out with the warden.
So walks out with warden in his arms.
He uses all of his Monk training and medical and taco skills to create a bubble around himself to keep the gas out (Thus saving the warden and himself).
(Movement-Based Power: Airwalking (monk Trained).
D8 Reflexes. (Techno chip).
D8 Strength. (Techno chip).

However because gas is everywhere this not so easy to do.
As a result he takes physical stress (nerve gassed - D6).

When he gets outside he hands warden over and then has to rest.

Scene: Detainment Center, Zigursky Penitentiary

OOC: Crimson Fury can create constructs with his Anger Projection...it would be a standard asset creation roll including a D6 and stepping up the effect die because Crimson Fury's good at doing things like that. Since the scene is essentially closed, any effort can be consider successful by default along as it's within your character's scope and capacity.(Doom Pool: D6)

As the vapors roll in, the marginally conscious Warden has the will to mutter, "Being shot in the back ain't good enough, eh?..." before breaking off into a rather harsh and rasping cough. With Tensing's assistance, he manages to his feet and is not long joined with Crimson Fury as he creates crimson corridor that keeps those inside safe and the fumes at bay. Timely assistance, but getting to the Armory wasn't happening anytime soon as Tensing begins to feel the initial effects of toxic fog.

How she got turned around, she wasn't sure but UV was certain she had lost track of Tensing, CF, Aegis, the Warden...even the riot spiraling out of control beneath her as the noxious fumes came crashing in. She had to get out of here, she could burn so fierce as to make herself bulletproof...but she still needed to breath. Frantically she flew about, striving to recollect her former path. Certainly, she was supposed to head to the Armory...but right now she'd just settle for a breath of fresh air!

Unperturbed by the gas expulsion, Sister Moon picks up a gasmask in stride as she penetrates deeper past the exterior of The Zig into the Detainment Center. She's late to the party, the breakout attempt seems to have been quashed...albeit, in ways that only Iah would seem to relish. Moreover, the automated defense systems still seem active but all she finds are the silent lain - inmate and guard alike. Something was wrong, but her musing are perturbed by narrowly avoiding collision with UV who seems to be suffering from the vile vapors.

OOC: Okay, so it appears that Windwalker and Crimson Fury are together with the Warden in tow. The closest place that might be considered 'refuge' would be his Office ("Gotta first aid kit in my desk"). Alternatively, you could head to the Infirmary...though further in distance. The Warden just insists that WW and CF leave him and head straight to the rally point - the Armory, "Can't let the Armory be taken, some of these perps would have a field day if they got their toys back in their mitts". He claims he can make it his Office on his own...it's doubtful.

Iah can only express disappointment at the ones who avoided judgement by Sister Moon's hands, but continues goading onward...until she nearly collides with UV - a 'reformed' villain, and Iah doesn't believe in reformation...only judgement. Still, though no saint...UV was far from deserving judgement for the calamity caused this day. Hero Corps apparently decided to vouch for UV's services regarding this...time will tell the wisdom of such action. For now, UV appears to becoming mildly afflicted by the gas while Iah continues to goad Sister Moon into delving deeper.

So, I'm thinking of two Transition Scenes...WW & CF in the Warden's Office and UV & SM heading deeper? The Infirmary is along the route to the Armory and a quick pit stop wouldn't hurt (if anything, so UV can acquire some remedy to overcome the effects of the gas). Still, I'm open to suggestions as to where the characters head from here...plus, it's a nice moment's respite so characters can compare notes as to what's going on.

OOC: Just add d6 to doom pool in order to let me make the energy tunnel.

"We head for the infirmary first. We have no idea what that gas does, or what the long term effects are. My energy tunnel can limit the exposure, but both of you have already had it introduced to your systems." Fury states, gesturing to the Warden and WindWalker. "Its on the way to the armory, which we have to hold no matter what." He looks out to the rest of the prison, but is more focused on the various emotions of rage, terror, and despair that flows from the people still trapped within.

Once Sister Moon located UV, she announced, "I am here to help you." Her voice was slightly muffled by the gas mask.  "Come, let's get you one of these," and she tapped the gas mask to indicate what she was talking about.

OOC: I'm unclear, other than getting UV a mask, what our aim is here.

Scene: Detainment Center, Zigursky Penitentiary

OOC: Good question, for the most part it's presumed that a breakout scenario was occurring. UV, CF, WW and Aegis were all on scene when the alarms went off after delivering a mob of Freaks who were in the middle of one of their 'parties' causing significant damage that caused the blackout in the Abyss Towers district. However, it's fairly certain by the amount of damage and needless body count that the automated defenses are not performing in accordance to their specifications. UV could fill Sister Moon in with those details, along with informing Sister Moon of the 'rally position' as the Warden had mentioned - the Armory, but as to why the Zig's defenses are going homicidal or who's behind it still remains relatively unclear.

Crimson Fury has no problem accomplishing the things he desires, so progress to the Infirmary is where CF, Tensing and the Warden will start next. Sister Moon and UV find themselves taking a more indirect route in order to escape the Detainment Center in route to the Armory. Two scenes are being prepped for posting soon! :D
