Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

Another opportunity? You guys are too kind. I'll buy the Opp Tenzing just rolled, Windwalker gains 1 PP and the Doom Pool gains another D6.

Assaulting the immobilized unit isn't too difficult for Tenzing, and with the amount of damage the suit has already recieved, it isn't too hard for him to try and reach areas where essential connections can be severed. Alas, that would be if the suit were inert and not trying to assault everyone present...Tenzing's actions do not go without notice...

Spending a D8 from the Doom Pool to add an additional trait to the Compromised Riot Suit's reaction - Electrostatic Emmitters: D8. Doom Pool is now D12, D10, D8 & D6.

Zigursky Heavy Duty
Solo: D8
Anti-Meta Exo-Armor: D8
Superhuman Durability: D10
Electrostatic Emmitters: D8
Combat Expert: D8
Tenzing's Physical Stress: D8
Mender Phantasm, for the NPC Compromised Riot Suit, rolled 5,3,2,6,2,4 using 5d8,d10.
Total: 11
Effect: D10
Opps: 0

Perhaps it was simply due to the difficulty of trying to short out an active and resisting exosuit that lead Tenzing's actions to be less effective than anticipated...where an essential wire is pulled, a backup is engaged, leading to a damaged but not entirely disabled unit.

Windwalker succeeded in damaging the suit, but since it's effect die was higher than his - Tenzing's effect die steps back one to D6 instead of D8 Physical Stress. Since D6 Physical Stress is greater than the current D4 Physical Stress it's suffering from - the suits Physical Stress is now D6. Speaking of Stress...

A high pitched whine can be heard as the internal mechanisms engage an otherwise seldom used feature, the pungent scent of burnt ozone can be sensed just moments before a cataclysic burst of electrostatic shock can be heard with a ear-popping *SNAP* all across the riot suit's surface. Tenzing feels as if he were holding onto an industrial grade high voltage wire!

Spending another Doom Die (D6) in order to take advantage of the opportunity Tenzing rolled - Windwalker recieves the full brunt of the riot suit's defensive countermeasures in the form of a near lethal shock (D10). Since Tenzing's Physical Stress was already D8, it steps up to D10 Physical Stress. Ouch! Doom Pool is now D12, D10, and D8.

Now...for the riot suit to act - post pending.

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

While one may argue that it was the Crimson Crusader who dealt the most damage to the maniacal mechanical monstrosity...whatever is controlling the compromised riot powersuit clearly thinks otherwise. Perhaps it was annoyed that it's auxiliary gas cannisters got ruined, perhaps it disliked the physical damage directly impeding it's potential, whatever the reasoning...the compromised riot suit raises one of it's forklift sized forearms with the intent of pounding Tenzing through the floor!

Tenzing has been causing the compromised riot powersuit a bit of grief, it's going to  try and repay the favor by attempting to finish off what the defensive electrostatic burst failed to accomplish - it's going to try and flatten Windwalker!

Zigursky Heavy Duty
Solo: D8
Anti-Meta Exo-Armor: D8
Superhuman Strength: D10
Combat Expert: D8
Tenzing's Physical Stress: D10
Mender Phantasm, for the NPC Compromised Riot Suit, rolled 5,9,4,6,6 using 2d10,3d8.
Total: 15
Effect: D10 Physical Stress to Tenzing
Opps: 0

I'm not really trying to take Windwalker out of the scene, but he has been relatively effective against it...so it's trying to take out the one most responsible for trying to take it out. Support actions might be something worth discussing at the current time and moment...

Okay, need a reaction roll from Tenzing, then it's a new round - everyone may still be active, so let me know who would like to go first (after Tenzing's reaction, that is)

Ouch! Well, yes...you can use your SFX - Counterattack against anything which activates the trigger - Physical Stress Attack, all you have to do is narrate how he goes about doing it, just like I embellished how the riot suit counterattacked Tenzing by shocking him. Narration is everything...if there's no story behind the action, how do we know how he did damage? ^_^ I'll post an example...

Landing abruptly from the near conscious consuming shock, Tenzing has no time to rest as he leaps upward, narrowly avoiding the colossal fist of the compromised riot suit as it drives it's armored mitt downward in a vain attempt to crush Tenzing beneath the full weight of it's massive chassis. Not one to leave an opportunity disregarded, Tenzing lands upon the forearm and propels himself forward, delivering a kick that strikes the powersuit full on with a room deafening clash as he nearly caves the entire chest cavity in with a well-practiced and martially honed strike that would leave even most of his peers in sheer awe of the devastating display!

The powersuit now had D10 Physical Stress instead of D6. Next turn, who wants to go first? :D

Yikes! Two more opportunities, I'll go ahead and buy them - Tenzing gains 2 Plot Points, Doom Pool steps up to 2D12, D8 & D6.

After being on the recieving end of a truly devestating blow, the operator of the powersuit seems to have resigned from making the same mistake twice. Allowing for the occaissional strike to make impact here and there, it waited for the ideal moment as the internal mechanisms can suddenly be heard powering up once more...

Spending a Doom Die (D6) in order to inflict it's Effect Die onto Tenzing in the form of another exceedingly potent electrical discharge. Doom Pool is now 2D12, 1D8

Tenzing's blows did not seem to have any particular effect this time as he strove to weaken and cripple the riot suit run amok. Alas, a resounding *SNAP* can be heard once more as Tenzing reels and staggers from another high voltage shock...that nearly drives him unconscious!

Tenzing experiences another D10 Physical Stress delivered by the Compromised Riot Suit's counterattack in the form of it's Electrostatic Emmitters electrifying it's chassis at the precise moment Tenzing strikes it. Tenzing's Physical Stress is D10, so it now steps up to D12. Tenzing is only marginally holding onto consciousness at this point! CF, I think it's your go.

Well, you got nine over, so that bumps up your effect die up one step to D12 Physical Stress!

The Compromised Riot Powersuit slumps over, smoking and sparking...though (miraculously) still showing signs of functionality. It's the Pilot that alerts the group of the subtle beeping that can be heard chiming from within - "IT'S GOING TO BLOW!!!"...and so it does.

Going to go ahead and spend 2D12 to end the Action Scene - the Compromised Riot Powersuit self-destructs! First of all, Tenzing and Crimson Fury gain 2 XP for the D12 expenditure. Now, questions...How does the exploding powersuit affect the scene? The Warden may survive, what about the Pilot? How do Tenzing and Crimson Fury fare from the detonation? What is left of the Infirmary? This will start the Transition Scene - Aftermath In The Infirmary! Dun-Dun-DUUUN! ^_^

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

Transition Scene: Aftermath In The Infirmary

Alright, for starters being the beginning of a Transition Scene, everyone steps back their existing Stress and/or Trauma by one step. This includes multiple types - whether it be Physical, Emotional or Mental. Since the heroes were getting the upper hand, the sudden ending to the Action Scene won't cause too much trouble. All existing Assets are also eliminated, as well as Complications, unless there's some narrative reason for the condition to remain. Think of Transition Scenes as a means to reset the conditions afflicting the character, except for Stress/Trauma and, in some instances, Complications. This also means the Warden is only experiencing D6 Physical Trauma, and can actually take some form of action other than crawling around and looking like an accessory than a person whose ran the Penitentiary.

"Johnson!" the Warden can be hear as he hacks and coughs amid the debris of the blasted Infirmary, surviving no doubt by the energy barrier Crimson Fury had erected around him prior to the Compromised Riot Powersuit's overload. Where he's managed to draw upon the muster to actually stand up and start looking for the Powersuit's Pilot can most likely be attested to his determination to ensure those on his watch are watched out for.

Pilot Johnson was a Combat Resource, and unless a Plot Point is spent during a Transition Scene, he won't be present...he may actually not have survived the blast. I leave that up to you two to decide whether or not he made it. Consequently, as this is a Transition Scene, players are able to spend Plot Points in order to create Resources related to their Specialties. This is also a good time to try and recover...and Tenzing looks like he could use a bit of looking after. This is also a good time to discuss the character's next move.

Roaming through the smoke and fume ridden-wreckage, albeit painfully and slowly, the Warden tries to discover signs of the others...or anything remotely useful. Throwing down a partially destroyed first aid kit, the Warden growls, "Damn you, Positron! I -WARNED- you this might happen! JOHNSON!" Doubling over from gas and fumes, his coughs slowly convert to barely contained sobs of bitter remorse as tears of frustration line his face.

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

You really like that Pilot. ^_^ No, I'm not intentionally trying to kill him...honest.

Blinking incredulously at his survival, the Pilot gapes in awe as the crimson energy field slowly fades from around him. With a sincere nod of appreciation, the Pilot says earnestly to Crimson Fury, "I OWE you one...THANK you." He calls out to the Warden who, shaken from his litany of self-loathing, beams a look of sincere respect to Crimson Fury before suggesting a search for Tenzing. As attempts are made to discover Tenzing's whereabouts, the Warden intones in a rather ominous fashion, "I doubt we're gonna have much time for rest, so I'll go ahead and bring you guys up to speed...."

"It's called the Cerebreaum, at least that's what Positron called it. It's a sentient program from another dimension where the Clockwork King reigned supreme. It was discovered trying to gain control of the dimensional gateways at Portal Corps, most likely where it first gained entry into this reality. It was stopped before it could open a stable portal between Paragon City and the Clockwork King's dimension, but every time they tried to shunt it back through...it found a way to come back. Finally, the Freedom Phalanx thought it would be a good idea to contain it...and the most likely source of containment which would prevent it from accessing any existing infrastructure for it to manipulate and control...," the Warden explains before spitting with a look of disdain, "...was to contain it here, in Zigursky Penitentiary, at the lowest levels contained by a field sustained by our independent power generators."

Looking about the devastated Infirmary, he mentions offhandedly, "Clearly the containment field has been breached...and if that thing finds a way to breach the Veil..." he drops a piece of ruined medical supplies by way of silent explanation what would occur.

Sure, you can spend XP, let me know what you have in mind. :)

Mark nodded at the pilot and the warden. It was tough to really acknowledge thier thanks. After all, he could not use positive emotions to strengthen himself. Only the destructive ones fueled his power. Granted, he might never have known that at all if he had not been in the war. Now he was a self licking ice cream cone of dysfuction.

"No problem." He said, trying to put all that out of his mind to focus on the problem at hand. He listens to the warden, and flexes his fingers. "So I suppose if the containment field wont stop it, is there a backup plan other than nuking the city?" Of course he thought the military would try that first.

Windwalker also jumps in to help Crimson Fury keep the Pilot alive.
Using his medical skills to make sure the is man alive.

Then he sits down and rests himself.
Letting Crimson Fury do the talking.
In what turns out to again be a large slice of irony of his life.  In all this chaos, pain, anger, fear, hurt and death.  Feeding of Crimson Fury nature Windwalker find the Serenity (Monk Trained) he learned as a young monk years ago that had been stripped from him when his mind had been taken over and the chip placed in his back.
This was one major step forward for the old monk, back to the man and the path he once traveled.
The balance of the universe, justice, love and kindness still prevailed despite what come creature or being tried to do.

OOC: Also use 1 PP help Pilot.  Gain 3 exp.
Spend 10 exp to gain Serenity (Monk Trained) in main power set.

Question:- As I have healing skills and with something left of Infirmary what can I do help myself and others.  What would cost if anything.

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

"Fail safes?...yeah, there were fail safes," the Warden answers with a bitter tone. "The entire facility was specifically designed to prevent unwarranted entry or exit. Every sublevel is designed to be it's own independently functioning sector, that way...in case of a breakout event, it would be that much more difficult to accomplish said task. That damn virus wasn't supposed to be able to takeover the Zig all at once because each level was essentially independent of each other...which makes what happened even more troublesome. Someone would have to enabled a hardline connection between each sublevel...someone who could go about the Zig without their actions being noticed - someone already on the inside."

With a sigh of resignation he concludes, "...so, with that damn virus causing all the automated defenses running amok, and all the inmates now on early parole...there also seems to be a traitor among us."

"First thing we should do is make sure the inmates don't arm themselves, a technovirus is bad, an army of armed felons itching for some payback is an entirely different story altogether. Perhaps in the Armory there might also be a means of containing that freaking virus. It's also the rally point for the Zig in case of a breakout event...other than that, I'm up for suggestions."

If Tenzing wants to engage in a recovery action - I have a few suggestions. First of all, it would help if you had something to boost your dice pool. If you spend 1 Plot Point, you can create a D6 Medical Resource (you're in the Infirmary, you're bound to find something useful). You could add that with 'Ways of the Monk' (D8) and Medical Expert (D8) to give you a dice pool of 2D8 & D6. It'd be a stretch, but you could also throw in your Serenity trait (D6) giving you 2D8 & 2D6. You'll be rolling against the Doom Pool and your current existing stress or whoever's stress you're aiming to treat. If you were to treat yourself, you would roll against a D8 plus your existing stress which would be D10. Scene distinctions would also still apply so 'Spacious & Cluttered' would play against you, not being the most ideal location for trying to remedy injuries, so that would be a total of 2D8 & D10 that you would be rolling against. If you try to help the Warden recover, the opposition dice pool would be 2D8 & D6.

Windwalker looks over at the warden.
In my many years I have learned one thing.  Traitors are expendable pawns in power games people play.  It is not the traitor we must worry about but the owner of the traitor.  Who or what has the power and resources to mount such a powerful and successful attack.  More importantly why have they done this and want do they wish to achieve.  If we can answer this question then the traitor would be place in context.  We can work out if we need to worry about traitor or not.  It is this the power behind the throne that one must worry about first.  What do they want.  What is the point of all of this.  You do not put such effort and time into doing something like this with out gaining something powerful in return.  We need to understand what we are up against and what other resource could be brought to bear on us and why.
I am new to the social and political dimension of this city so maybe you can help?

Wincing slightly as Tenzing tends his wounds, the Warden seems to become more relaxed and at ease as the painful scorch marks from the blast he received across his back are treated and properly dressed in a manner befitting the ancient styles of mending all too familiar to the Windwalker - knowledge long since forgotten in the era he finds himself living in.

The Warden mulls over Tenzing's words as his examines the functionality of his firearm while Tenzing puts the final touches on his dressings, "If there was something to gain from all this, I'd love to know what. It's pointless to try and execute a breakout attempt, the Veil is this facility's crowning achievement...even if control were totally lost, the Veil is potent enough to ensure containment until reinforcements arrive."

"This facility has experienced beakout attempts before, and there's plenty of organizations that would love to see their 'brothers-in-arms' liberated...like Arachnos, but so far - no one's stepped up and claimed responsibility. Where's the follow up? I can't believe all this was done just to set some homicidal rogue AI loose...unless the whole entire purpose behind all this was to lay ruin to this place, which makes reclaiming this facility an even more pertinent priority."

The Warden merely glowers at the Crimson Crusader, "If the inmates takeover the Armory, if some of those lunatics reacquire the tools of their so-called 'trade'...it won't." Holstering his firearm, he stands while trying his best to look officious, "We best get moving..."

Elsewhere, surrounded by monitiors depicting news casts from around the world, stands a elderly caucasian man in wealthy business attire, stroking his chin as he examines one of the more active monitors. An exterior view of Zigursky Penitentiary can be seen as a Longbow Slingshot heads on an approach vector.

"R-K Alpha One, give me a sitrep...what's your status."

A figure comes into view of one of the monitor he's observing. By the attire and gear alone, he appears to be a member of Zigursky Penitentiary's Parameter Guard. "This is R-K Alpha One, sitrep is nominal to profile, Director. The Zig is on lockdown."

"What about the Asset?"

"The Veil's been dropped, Sir. All communication with the interior of the facilty has be severed." The figure shuffles nervously and adds, "The status of the Asset is unknown."

"There's a phenominal amount of money riding on this contract, Soldier. Half of which has already been paid up front - enough to replace you ten times over. If your serious about having a future with this organization - I need you to do better than 'I don't know'", the elderly man sneers.

"Y-yes Sir. The Parameter Guard is about to send another contigent within now that Longbow's arrived to provide parameter support. I'll have an update regarding the Asset's status within the hour."

"You have twenty minutes, I expect a full report by then..." the man replies acidicly as he switches his attention to another monitor that flickers to life, "Senator Langstrom, to what do I owe the pleasure of this communique?"

"I wish I were calling on behalf of better circumstances, Mr. Jurgenson. Look, I'll cut to the chase...we have a situation in Brickstown..."

***

...and in the lowest depths of Zigursky Penitentiary where no living thing stirs...stirs the forms of automated devices and machinery as they go about the task of building...a portal.

Guess the architects felt that if anything went critical, this facility would be the buffer between a possible cataclysmic explosion and the people who lived in and around Brickstown. Not the most comforting thought to cross one's mind on a daily basis on the way to work...but at least, when they designed this place, they kept the local citizenry in mind. That means we got about three levels of automated defenses and escaped inmates to contend with. If we're lucky, maybe the inmates and defenses took each other out...but I wouldn't really call that luck..."

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

Fury looks around, as if he noticed something. His eyes narrow and he stares at a wall, and then the floor. "UV is hurt. In both ways." He frowns, and growls. "We have to secure the armory first. I might be able to track her after that..."

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

The Warden inquires where, and when CF provides him with a vague approximation, his brows furrow as he strikes his chin. "That's where a section of access hallways lie. It'd be a circuitous route, but it would certainly help us avoid the majority of current existing defenses and wandering inmates. That'll save more time then we'd lose, think you can lead the way?"

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

"Let's go..." He gestures, and puts both men in a protective Orb. He has it follow along after him, trusting Windwalker to be able to keep up on his own.

(OOC-Spending 1 PP to create a d8 resource-based on my combat mastery, protective transport bubble. This will allow our two NPCs to have some level of protection and way to move them about.)

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

Alright, away the trio go! I went ahead and set up the next Transition Scene - In The Wake Of Sadness. CF and WW now have access to the scene UV was part of.
