Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

"Schrodinger's Penitentiary"

The Infirmary (Detainment Center) - Doom Pool: D8
Obscuring Noxious Haze
Spacious & Cluttered

State of the art medical, technical and scientific equipment adorn the area throughout the Infirmary...essential in order to treat the vast variety of inmates incarcerated herein Zigursky Penitentiary. Alas, what would have been an ideal location for recovery and treatment...has now been turned into set piece for a Clive Barker film. It's difficult to tell where wrecked machinery ends and wrecked bodies begin. Operating tables have been converted into dissecting tables, medical implements have been employed to inflict mortal wounds...what's worse, anything that might have been useful has either been destroyed or scattered about so thoroughly that it's questionable if anything of significant use will be located in a timely fashion. "Should've went to my Office...", glowers the Warden between fits of coughs as he glares at a ceiling mounted camera slowly panning their way.

A 'heavy', one of Zigursky Penitentiary's riot suits, seems to lie dormant...tangled in a mass of machinery in what looks to have been a brutal skirmish with the Zig's automated defenses. A muffled voice echoes from within, "I...is there anybody there?" "Johnson?" inquires the Warden incredulously. The heavy shudders, lurches forward and begins to stand as the voice inside begins to wail, "Oh my God! Get out of here!" "Shit..." the Warden coughs, "Hit the eject charges, Johnson!" "I -CAN'T-!" replies a desperate voice muffled from within, "The entire system's compromised! I'm not controlling -ANYTHING-!" His words are drowned out by a synthesized drone, "I AM SORRY. ALL DOCTORS ARE CURRENTLY SEEING OTHER SUBJECTS. PLEASE TAKE A NUMBER AND WAIT TO BE...*BZZZT*...CULLED". Weapon systems can be heard powering up as panicked voice screams from within, "Get me -OUT- of this thing!".

Zigursky Heavy Duty - (D6 Physical Complication: Energy Bonds, D12 Physical Stress, Self-Destructed)
Solo: D8, Duo: D6, Team: D4
Anti-Meta Exo-Armor
Compromised Operating System
Prisoner Pilot <Distinction no longer narratively relevant>

RIOT POWERSUIT
Superhuman Strength D10
Superhuman Durability D10
Superhuman Senses D10
Electrostatic Emitters D8
Auxiliary Gas Dispensers D6 <Shutdown>
Growth D6
SFX - Tangleweb Cables: When using Superhuman Strength in order to inflict an 'Entangled' Physical Complication, add a D6 and step up the effect die by +1.
SFX - Saturation Effect: When using Auxiliary Gas Dispeners against multiple targets, add a D6 and keep an additional effect die for every additional target.
SFX - Overcharge: Step up or double a RIOT POWERSUIT Superhuman Strength or Electric Blast for one action, then step back to 2D at -1. Recover power by activating an opportunity or during a Transition Scene.
LIM - Fried Connection: Shutdown a RIOT POWERSUIT power vs. an ELECTRIC attack and add a D6 to the Doom Pool. Recover power by activating an opportunity or during a Transition Scene.

SEALED PILOT COMPARTMENT <Lim Active - Physical Stress can no longer be redirected, Powerset effectively Shutdown>
Enhanced Durability D8
SFX - Wrong Place, Wrong Time: Redirect Physical Stress to Pilot at no cost.
LIM - Soft On The Inside: Physical Stress can only be redirected if Pilot is alive. Pilot can only take D8 Physical Stress.

Combat Expert: D8

The Zigursky Mk. II "Heavy Duty" is a power suit designed to maintain full operation in the event that the pilot were subdued or otherwise incapacity. The pilot compartment is nestled in the center of the powersuit's chest, protected by an additional layer of armor, a holdover design concept of existing Freedom Corps Cataphracts. A stripped down version, this particular model was designed to be more compact with implements that would allow the pilot to engage some of the worst that the Zig has to offer. However (being cost prohibitive) some features lack...so such overall functioning capacity leaving it unable to operate for extensive periods of time without recharging. Still possessing the strength of an industrial crane, the durability to bear such a load, and possessing top of the line targetting and response system arrays...lengthy operation times seldom factor.

OOC: Since Crimson Fury and Riot Powersuit have the same Sense rating, I'll opt to have Crimson Fury go first (or whoever he decides to defer to). The Warden will still be essentially physical stressed out since there wasn't any time to recover, Tensing will also be at D6 Physical Stress due to the gas in the previous scene. Welcome to the Infirmary. :D

"Why is it never damn easy!?" Fury said, largely to himself. He had to trust Windwalker could defend himself, but the Warden needed to be protected. He proceeds to draw upon his own frustration as he coats the man in a glowing red Bubble, shielding him from any lingering gas and whatever the now remote-piloted armor could throw at them all...

Yeah, Assets don't carry over like Complications do so the Crimson Orb is gone...but as you can we'll see, such was only a temporary setback. Crimson Fury is exceptionally successful, almost 10 over the defense roll, which steps up his effect die +1 step...and since it was already a D12 effect, CF gains another D6 effect die to assign without PP expenditure tied someway to the initial effect. For example, CF could also provide Windwalker with a similar, though not as effective or long lasting field (Ablative Field D6) usable for one action or reaction.

Channeling his rage, Crimson Fury generates a crimson sphere around the Warden so durable that his survival is all but assured...with energy to spare. The Warden only shouts, though his voice is distorted through the seething energy sphere, "...on't wor...bout me - ...ave Johnson!"

While CF can sense the Warden's appreciation, but can sense his duty-bound concern for others under his command...a duty he apparently takes seriously regardless of his current condition. After assigning your additional D6 effect die, who goes next - Windwalker or the Compromised Riotsuit?

Seeing CF provide sufficient cover for the Warden while impeding the compromised riot suit to some degree in the process, Tenzing seeks to restore some functionality to the devestated area as some means of rendering aid to those who have suffered (present company included) will be of significant benefit. While the cutting edge wreckage makes for poor provision, Tenzing was no stranger to improvisation and adaptation. His mind awhirl with a plethora of mechanical schematics, courtesy of the techno chip he has grown accustomed to, he sets about restoring basic functionality of the spacious yet cluttered area...his labored breath all but forgotten as he puts himself to task.

Not much will prevent Tenzing from doing so, save for perhaps the riot suit. Other than that, it's just having to deal with the mess that once was something relatively useful...and making do with a few adjustments in order to get the area back to some degree of functionality. The only thing really impeding Tenzing (besides the Doom Pool) is the wreckage itself. I will also buy that Opportunity you rolled. Tenzing gains 1 PP and the Doom Pool steps up to 1D10 and 2D8.

Doom Pool: 1D10, 2D8
Cutting Edge Wreckage: 1D8
Mender Phantasm rolled 8,6,5,4 using d10,3d8.

As Tenzing was the active player, ties go to the player commiting the action...so while it was a close shave, Tensing is able to get some of the medical equipment back online and functional. You could go ahead and use your effect die to counteract the current scene distinction (Cutting Edge Wreckage) in order to represent that he was able to circumvent a majority of the wreckage allowing for the infirmary to be restored...despite it's spacious yet cluttered condition. I forgot to include Tenzing's physical stress, but including stress/complications isn't mandatory, so I won't bother adding it...and now, it's the compromised riot suit's turn to act. :D

The compromised riot suit attempts to take a step forward, but stops momentarily as servomotors whine in complaint against the energy bonds that hold it in place. Pausing slightly, the mechanized monstrosity squawks in a synthesized monotone voice, "ALERT! MOTOVEHICULAR SYSTEMS COMPROMISED! DEPLOYING ANTI-RIOT SUPPRESSION COUNTERMEASURES!" followed by the sound of a series of cannisters launched from it's shoulders. Wherever a cannister lands, a plume of noxious fumes explodes outward in an astounding radius...it is truly not long before the entire infirmary is shrouded in a toxic fog!

The compromised riot suit uses it's Auxiliary Gas Dispensers in order to induce a Saturation Effect regarding the entirety of the localized area. Everyone gets targeted, and I'll even spend a Doom Die (D8) to create a Scene Distinction to represent the copious amounts of gas generated by the cannisters (Obscuring Noxious Haze). After reaction rolls, feel free to decide amongst you two who will act next.

Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

Unfortunately, you rolled two '1's' so that just means you only had two dice to choose for your total for your reaction from the four dice you had as your dice pool, leaving you with only the default effect total (I'll go ahead and buy those two Opps, Tenzing gains 2 PP and both Doom Pool die step up to D12 and D10). You could use your effect die in a counterattack...D4 Stress is still stress, you would just have to narratively describe how Tenzing does it. In this particular instance, since it was a physical attack (gas cannisters), you could opt to say with a flying roundhouse kick he sends one of the cannisters flying back into the compromised riot suit with a resounding clang of metal on metal causing D4 Physical Stress. You can't actually increase your effect die through PP expenditure, but you can spend 1 PP in order to convert incurring Stress from one type to another (such as Physical to Mental or Emotional Stress) as long as you can narratively describe why such has occurred. For example, instead of Physical Stress, Tenzing could experience Mental Stress as his resolve is taxed as he tries to will himself not to inhale the noxious fumes, or Emotional Stress as the fumes irritate him making it difficult to focus. The Stress die won't change, it will still be D6 Stress, but how that stress affects Tenzing can change as long as there's sufficient explanation why this is so. Think of it as a way for a character to keep operating beyond the pale of expectation despite not having any real ability to ward off Stress by sheer grit and determination alone. It provides a means from preventing a certain Stress type from increasing, reducing the probability of a character from being Stressed Out, but it also means more types of Stress that can be used against you regarding opposing dice pools, and longer recovery times as various types of Stress are resolved independently. Do note that this option only exists regarding Stress, Complications cannot be altered in such fashion.

As busy as he was striving to restore functionality to the localized area, Tenzing was not oblivious to the sound of the cannisters discharging from the hulking riot suit. Finishing a power coupling connection, he swiftly leaps and with a sweeping roundhouse, he delivers a timely kick to one of the airborne cannisters lobbed his way. Alas, despite the effectiveness of his counter, repelling the cannister back unto the immobilized riot suit with a resounding clash of metal on metal, the fumes which blasted out of it...among the others that were likewise discharged, cause Tenzing's eyes to water and his breathing worsen as the fumes from the various cannisters flood the infirmary with a pallid yellow haze.

Unless you want to spend a PP to shift the Physical Stress to either Emotional or Mental. Tenzing's current Physical Stress will step up from a D6 to a D8 as his breathing worsens due to the effect of the gas flooding the area. Consequently, you get to choose who goes next...either Crimson Fury or the Compromised Riot Suit. The Riot Suit will experience D4 Physical Stress.

I got to keep in mind how CF is built. Okay, true, you can ignore the effects of the gas by spending 1 PP AND redirect any Physical Stress to yourself as Emotional Stress in order to insure the Warden doesn't suffer from the gas attack. You could also spend 1 PP in order to step the Emotional Stress back one step, in this particular instance, it would have been D6 Physical Stress - you can convert it freely to D6 Emotional Stress as you will the protective sphere to keep the Warden safe from the gas, and for 1 PP you can reduce it back from D6 Emotional Stress to D4 Emotional Stress (which is optional).

As the gas billows about the Infirmary, Crimson Fury can feel the strain as he wills the protective sphere around the Warden to filter the noxious fumes striving to permeate the crimson field filling Crimson Fury with a sense of urgency and irritation.

Tenzing leaps through the billowing haze, clasping yet another cannister as he attempts to jam the auxiliary gas dispensers from launching any further munitions...

An exceptional success, your stepped up effect die (D12 from D10) exceeds the die rating of the Auxiliary Gas Dispenser (D6), so it has effectively been shutdown until it can get repaired somehow. Nice work! CF, I believe you are next...or, you could choose the Compromised Riot Suit to go next. :)

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

Johnson desperately struggled with the interior workings of the Riot Powersuit, there had to be someway to shut this thing down from the inside. Pulled wires and tore up interior bore evidence to his prior attempts at escape as the suit ceased obeying the controls available to him. This wasn't how things were supposed to go, these suits were supposed to be top of the line - what happened? He remembered hearing the emergency alarms sound, the rush to get to the where the Riot Powersuits were stored for charging. He remembered boarding, running down the checklist and starting up the unit. A jail-break, or so it seemed, there was precious little information regarding why the Ziggarut was being put on full alert...he just knew his role as part of the impeding riot response team.

He remembered the odd power surge, the flicker across the screens, "Top of the line, my ass" Johnson thought as he secured himself in and ran the riot powersuit through a quick series of checks before standing up with a mechanized whine and dull thud of heavily reinforced leg actuators. Johnson had seen combat before, most of the staff who had applied to work at the Ziggarut had at least some sort of military or police experience, so he wasn't overly worried...just concerned at the lack of data regarding what was currently going on. Still, he had his orders, standard operation in case of emergency...head to the infirmary and secure the location. That was before all hell broke loose...

What caused the Zig's automated defenses to go all out was lost to Johnson, if it weren't for the suit he was operating...he most assuredly would have become another causalty. The suit took the brunt of the beating, but what bothered Johnson wasn't so much the Zig's defenses turning against him...it was the steady lack of response occuring from within the riot powersuit itself. It was as if the system was failing one feature at a time before a total shutdown caused him to lose track of space and time...sealed in a powersuit he no longer had any control over. Desperate to resolve his situation...he went to work trying to circumvent the controls, anything would be better than being a sitting duck - he needed to know what was happening.

Then he heard sounds once more, people were approaching, at great risk...he inquired, "I...is there anybody there?" Out of sheer disbelief, he thought he had lost his mind, did he just hear the Warden call his name? Almost immediately, the powersuit's functions became active once more...and he wasn't the one controlling it. "Oh my God! Get out of here!" He nearly laughs as his boss tells him to do the obvious, he tried to engage the eject charges well over a half an hour ago, "The entire system's compromised! I'm not controlling -ANYTHING-! Get me -OUT- of this thing!" Then the fighting started...

***

As Crimson Fury taps into the rage fuelling his capacity to channel energy, the compromised powersuit doesn't seem to show any particular interest in protecting itself as a colossal crimson beam arcs from Crimson Fury and collides with the compromised powersuit head on...

Johnson, never had the chance to know what hit him, before a hole is blown completely through the riot suit...and through the pilot's compartment. Even contained by a nigh indestructable field, the Warden can be heard screaming, "Johnson! NO!" The compromised riot powersuit merely pokes where the hole...and where the pilot's compartment was, and gives off a synthesized giggle saying, "Teehee! Tickles..."

The compromised riot suit's Limitation - Soft On The Inside, now comes into effect. Physical Stress can only be redirected if Pilot is alive. The Pilot took D12 Physical Stress, and since the Pilot could only take D8 Physical Stress, no further Physical Stress can be redirected during this scene...

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

You blew out the entire pilot compartment, that was about the extent of the damage. Since it was just the pilot's compartment, the hijacked automated system essentially just lost the pilot backup...which it clearly seems to be unconcerned with. You knew there was a pilot in there, but you weren't trying to blast the pilot, the compromised riot suit merely anticipated it's odds of avoiding you're attack...and since avoidance was not a factor (being narratives complicated by energy bonds) it took the hit where it would impair it the least.- it turned into your blast striking in a manner and angle unanticipated. The pilot experienced D8 Physical Trauma.

Ouch, I'll buy those two Opps, CF gains 2 PP and the Doom Pool steps up to D12, D10 and 2D8. CF also creates a Combat Resource - Pilot Johnson (D8), due to the Riot Suit's opportunity rolled during it's reaction from CF's energy attack.

As Crimson Fury incinerates the incoming cables as they try to twine their way around the crimson hued crusader, behind the hulking riot suit...the smoldering remains of the pilot compartment can be seen, blown completely free of the compromised riot powersuit, which unceremoniously blasts open revealing the pilot as he spills out onto the ground! While certainly shaken and rattled by his ordeal, he nonetheless draws his sidearm and dives for cover. "Jeezus, Warden! What the hell!" he can be heard shouting from his concealed position.

Yay! The pilot lives! CF certainly earned that XP! :) Now who goes next? Tenzing or the Riot Powersuit?

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

Another opportunity? You guys are too kind. I'll buy the Opp Tenzing just rolled, Windwalker gains 1 PP and the Doom Pool gains another D6.

Assaulting the immobilized unit isn't too difficult for Tenzing, and with the amount of damage the suit has already recieved, it isn't too hard for him to try and reach areas where essential connections can be severed. Alas, that would be if the suit were inert and not trying to assault everyone present...Tenzing's actions do not go without notice...

Spending a D8 from the Doom Pool to add an additional trait to the Compromised Riot Suit's reaction - Electrostatic Emmitters: D8. Doom Pool is now D12, D10, D8 & D6.

Zigursky Heavy Duty
Solo: D8

Opps: 0

Perhaps it was simply due to the difficulty of trying to short out an active and resisting exosuit that lead Tenzing's actions to be less effective than anticipated...where an essential wire is pulled, a backup is engaged, leading to a damaged but not entirely disabled unit.

Windwalker succeeded in damaging the suit, but since it's effect die was higher than his - Tenzing's effect die steps back one to D6 instead of D8 Physical Stress. Since D6 Physical Stress is greater than the current D4 Physical Stress it's suffering from - the suits Physical Stress is now D6. Speaking of Stress...

A high pitched whine can be heard as the internal mechanisms engage an otherwise seldom used feature, the pungent scent of burnt ozone can be sensed just moments before a cataclysic burst of electrostatic shock can be heard with a ear-popping *SNAP* all across the riot suit's surface. Tenzing feels as if he were holding onto an industrial grade high voltage wire!

Spending another Doom Die (D6) in order to take advantage of the opportunity Tenzing rolled - Windwalker recieves the full brunt of the riot suit's defensive countermeasures in the form of a near lethal shock (D10). Since Tenzing's Physical Stress was already D8, it steps up to D10 Physical Stress. Ouch! Doom Pool is now D12, D10, and D8.

Now...for the riot suit to act - post pending.

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

While one may argue that it was the Crimson Crusader who dealt the most damage to the maniacal mechanical monstrosity...whatever is controlling the compromised riot powersuit clearly thinks otherwise. Perhaps it was annoyed that it's auxiliary gas cannisters got ruined, perhaps it disliked the physical damage directly impeding it's potential, whatever the reasoning...the compromised riot suit raises one of it's forklift sized forearms with the intent of pounding Tenzing through the floor!

Tenzing has been causing the compromised riot powersuit a bit of grief, it's going to  try and repay the favor by attempting to finish off what the defensive electrostatic burst failed to accomplish - it's going to try and flatten Windwalker!

I'm not really trying to take Windwalker out of the scene, but he has been relatively effective against it...so it's trying to take out the one most responsible for trying to take it out. Support actions might be something worth discussing at the current time and moment...

Ouch! Well, yes...you can use your SFX - Counterattack against anything which activates the trigger - Physical Stress Attack, all you have to do is narrate how he goes about doing it, just like I embellished how the riot suit counterattacked Tenzing by shocking him. Narration is everything...if there's no story behind the action, how do we know how he did damage? ^_^ I'll post an example...

Landing abruptly from the near conscious consuming shock, Tenzing has no time to rest as he leaps upward, narrowly avoiding the colossal fist of the compromised riot suit as it drives it's armored mitt downward in a vain attempt to crush Tenzing beneath the full weight of it's massive chassis. Not one to leave an opportunity disregarded, Tenzing lands upon the forearm and propels himself forward, delivering a kick that strikes the powersuit full on with a room deafening clash as he nearly caves the entire chest cavity in with a well-practiced and martially honed strike that would leave even most of his peers in sheer awe of the devastating display!

The powersuit now had D10 Physical Stress instead of D6. Next turn, who wants to go first? :D

After being on the recieving end of a truly devestating blow, the operator of the powersuit seems to have resigned from making the same mistake twice. Tenzing's blows did not seem to have any particular effect this time as he strove to weaken and cripple the riot suit run amok. Alas, a resounding *SNAP* can be heard once more as Tenzing reels and staggers from another high voltage shock...that nearly drives him unconscious!

Tenzing experiences another D10 Physical Stress delivered by the Compromised Riot Suit's counterattack in the form of it's Electrostatic Emmitters electrifying it's chassis at the precise moment Tenzing strikes it. Tenzing's Physical Stress is D10, so it now steps up to D12. Tenzing is only marginally holding onto consciousness at this point! CF, I think it's your go.

Going to go ahead and spend 2D12 to end the Action Scene - the Compromised Riot Powersuit self-destructs! First of all, Tenzing and Crimson Fury gain 2 XP for the D12 expenditure. Now, questions...How does the exploding powersuit affect the scene? The Warden may survive, what about the Pilot? How do Tenzing and Crimson Fury fare from the detonation? Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

Transition Scene: Aftermath In The Infirmary

Alright, for starters being the beginning of a Transition Scene, everyone steps back their existing Stress and/or Trauma by one step. This includes multiple types - whether it be Physical, Emotional or Mental. Since the heroes were getting the upper hand, the sudden ending to the Action Scene won't cause too much trouble. All existing Assets are also eliminated, as well as Complications, unless there's some narrative reason for the condition to remain. Think of Transition Scenes as a means to reset the conditions afflicting the character, except for Stress/Trauma and, in some instances, Complications. This also means the Warden is only experiencing D6 Physical Trauma, and can actually take some form of action other than crawling around and looking like an accessory than a person whose ran the Penitentiary.

"Johnson!" the Warden can be hear as he hacks and coughs amid the debris of the blasted Infirmary, surviving no doubt by the energy barrier Crimson Fury had erected around him prior to the Compromised Riot Powersuit's overload. Where he's managed to draw upon the muster to actually stand up and start looking for the Powersuit's Pilot can most likely be attested to his determination to ensure those on his watch are watched out for.

Pilot Johnson was a Combat Resource, and unless a Plot Point is spent during a Transition Scene, he won't be present...he may actually not have survived the blast. I leave that up to you two to decide whether or not he made it. Consequently, as this is a Transition Scene, players are able to spend Plot Points in order to create Resources related to their Specialties. This is also a good time to try and recover...and Tenzing looks like he could use a bit of looking after. This is also a good time to discuss the character's next move.

Roaming through the smoke and fume ridden-wreckage, albeit painfully and slowly, the Warden tries to discover signs of the others...or anything remotely useful. Throwing down a partially destroyed first aid kit, the Warden growls, "Damn you, Positron! I -WARNED- you this might happen! JOHNSON!" Doubling over from gas and fumes, his coughs slowly convert to barely contained sobs of bitter remorse as tears of frustration line his face.

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

You really like that Pilot. ^_^ No, I'm not intentionally trying to kill him...honest.

Blinking incredulously at his survival, the Pilot gapes in awe as the crimson energy field slowly fades from around him. With a sincere nod of appreciation, the Pilot says earnestly to Crimson Fury, "I OWE you one...THANK you." He calls out to the Warden who, shaken from his litany of self-loathing, beams a look of sincere respect to Crimson Fury before suggesting a search for Tenzing. As attempts are made to discover Tenzing's whereabouts, the Warden intones in a rather ominous fashion, "I doubt we're gonna have much time for rest, so I'll go ahead and bring you guys up to speed...."

"It's called the Cerebreaum, at least that's what Positron called it. It's a sentient program from another dimension where the Clockwork King reigned supreme. It was discovered trying to gain control of the dimensional gateways at Portal Corps, most likely where it first gained entry into this reality. It was stopped before it could open a stable portal between Paragon City and the Clockwork King's dimension, but every time they tried to shunt it back through...it found a way to come back. Finally, the Freedom Phalanx thought it would be a good idea to contain it...and the most likely source of containment which would prevent it from accessing any existing infrastructure for it to manipulate and control...," the Warden explains before spitting with a look of disdain, "...was to contain it here, in Zigursky Penitentiary, at the lowest levels contained by a field sustained by our independent power generators."

Looking about the devastated Infirmary, he mentions offhandedly, "Clearly the containment field has been breached...and if that thing finds a way to breach the Veil..." he drops a piece of ruined medical supplies by way of silent explanation what would occur.

Sure, you can spend XP, let me know what you have in mind. :)

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

"Fail safes?...yeah, there were fail safes," the Warden answers with a bitter tone. "The entire facility was specifically designed to prevent unwarranted entry or exit. Every sublevel is designed to be it's own independently functioning sector, that way...in case of a breakout event, it would be that much more difficult to accomplish said task. That damn virus wasn't supposed to be able to takeover the Zig all at once because each level was essentially independent of each other...which makes what happened even more troublesome. Someone would have to enabled a hardline connection between each sublevel...someone who could go about the Zig without their actions being noticed - someone already on the inside."

With a sigh of resignation he concludes, "...so, with that damn virus causing all the automated defenses running amok, and all the inmates now on early parole...there also seems to be a traitor among us."

"First thing we should do is make sure the inmates don't arm themselves, a technovirus is bad, an army of armed felons itching for some payback is an entirely different story altogether. Perhaps in the Armory there might also be a means of containing that freaking virus. It's also the rally point for the Zig in case of a breakout event...other than that, I'm up for suggestions."

If Tenzing wants to engage in a recovery action - I have a few suggestions. First of all, it would help if you had something to boost your dice pool. If you spend 1 Plot Point, you can create a D6 Medical Resource (you're in the Infirmary, you're bound to find something useful). You could add that with 'Ways of the Monk' (D8) and Medical Expert (D8) to give you a dice pool of 2D8 & D6. It'd be a stretch, but you could also throw in your Serenity trait (D6) giving you 2D8 & 2D6. You'll be rolling against the Doom Pool and your current existing stress or whoever's stress you're aiming to treat. If you were to treat yourself, you would roll against a D8 plus your existing stress which would be D10. Scene distinctions would also still apply so 'Spacious & Cluttered' would play against you, not being the most ideal location for trying to remedy injuries, so that would be a total of 2D8 & D10 that you would be rolling against. If you try to help the Warden recover, the opposition dice pool would be 2D8 & D6.

Windwalker looks over at the warden.
In my many years I have learned one thing.  Traitors are expendable pawns in power games people play.  It is not the traitor we must worry about but the owner of the traitor.  Who or what has the power and resources to mount such a powerful and successful attack.  More importantly why have they done this and want do they wish to achieve.  If we can answer this question then the traitor would be place in context.  We can work out if we need to worry about traitor or not.  It is this the power behind the throne that one must worry about first.  What do they want.  What is the point of all of this.  You do not put such effort and time into doing something like this with out gaining something powerful in return.  We need to understand what we are up against and what other resource could be brought to bear on us and why.
I am new to the social and political dimension of this city so maybe you can help?

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

Wincing slightly as Tenzing tends his wounds, the Warden seems to become more relaxed and at ease as the painful scorch marks from the blast he received across his back are treated and properly dressed in a manner befitting the ancient styles of mending all too familiar to the Windwalker - knowledge long since forgotten in the era he finds himself living in.

The Warden mulls over Tenzing's words as his examines the functionality of his firearm while Tenzing puts the final touches on his dressings, "If there was something to gain from all this, I'd love to know what. It's pointless to try and execute a breakout attempt, the Veil is this facility's crowning achievement...even if control were totally lost, the Veil is potent enough to ensure containment until reinforcements arrive."

"This facility has experienced beakout attempts before, and there's plenty of organizations that would love to see their 'brothers-in-arms' liberated...like Arachnos, but so far - no one's stepped up and claimed responsibility. Where's the follow up? I can't believe all this was done just to set some homicidal rogue AI loose...unless the whole entire purpose behind all this was to lay ruin to this place, which makes reclaiming this facility an even more pertinent priority."

Mender Phantasm, for the NPC Warden, rolled 3,4,2 using 2d8,d6.
Total: 7
Effect: D6
Opps: 0
The Warden is completely recovered! :D

In reply to Mender Phantasm (msg # 42):

Fury stared at the Warden, seeing the conflicting emotions in the man's mind. His eyes narrow, and he folds his arms. "You don't seem so sure the veil will hold." He said, rasing an eyebrow.

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

The Warden merely glowers at the Crimson Crusader, "If the inmates takeover the Armory, if some of those lunatics reacquire the tools of their so-called 'trade'...it won't." Holstering his firearm, he stands while trying his best to look officious, "We best get moving..."

***

Elsewhere, surrounded by monitiors depicting news casts from around the world, stands a elderly caucasian man in wealthy business attire, stroking his chin as he examines one of the more active monitors. An exterior view of Zigursky Penitentiary can be seen as a Longbow Slingshot heads on an approach vector.

"R-K Alpha One, give me a sitrep...what's your status."

A figure comes into view of one of the monitor he's observing. By the attire and gear alone, he appears to be a member of Zigursky Penitentiary's Parameter Guard. "This is R-K Alpha One, sitrep is nominal to profile, Director. The Zig is on lockdown."

"What about the Asset?"

"The Veil's been dropped, Sir. All communication with the interior of the facilty has be severed." The figure shuffles nervously and adds, "The status of the Asset is unknown."

"There's a phenominal amount of money riding on this contract, Soldier. Half of which has already been paid up front - enough to replace you ten times over. If your serious about having a future with this organization - I need you to do better than 'I don't know'", the elderly man sneers.

"Y-yes Sir. The Parameter Guard is about to send another contigent within now that Longbow's arrived to provide parameter support. I'll have an update regarding the Asset's status within the hour."

"You have twenty minutes, I expect a full report by then..." the man replies acidicly as he switches his attention to another monitor that flickers to life, "Senator Langstrom, to what do I owe the pleasure of this communique?"

"I wish I were calling on behalf of better circumstances, Mr. Jurgenson. Look, I'll cut to the chase...we have a situation in Brickstown..."

...and in the lowest depths of Zigursky Penitentiary where no living thing stirs...stirs the forms of automated devices and machinery as they go about the task of building...a portal.

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

The Warden replies to Tenzing, "Sublevel Four, that's where the Armory is...nestled smack dab in the middle of this facility. Guess the architects felt that if anything went critical, this facility would be the buffer between a possible cataclysmic explosion and the people who lived in and around Brickstown. Not the most comforting thought to cross one's mind on a daily basis on the way to work...but at least, when they designed this place, they kept the local citizenry in mind. That means we got about three levels of automated defenses and escaped inmates to contend with. If we're lucky, maybe the inmates and defenses took each other out...but I wouldn't really call that luck..."

"...I'd call it a disaster."

Fury looks around, as if he noticed something. His eyes narrow and he stares at a wall, and then the floor. "UV is hurt. In both ways." He frowns, and growls. "We have to secure the armory first. I might be able to track her after that..."

Re: Scene: The Infirmary, Zigursky Penitentiary

The Warden inquires where, and when CF provides him with a vague approximation, his brows furrow as he strikes his chin. "That's where a section of access hallways lie. It'd be a circuitous route, but it would certainly help us avoid the majority of current existing defenses and wandering inmates. That'll save more time then we'd lose, think you can lead the way?"

"Let's go..." He gestures, and puts both men in a protective Orb. He has it follow along after him, trusting Windwalker to be able to keep up on his own.

(OOC-Spending 1 PP to create a d8 resource-based on my combat mastery, protective transport bubble. This will allow our two NPCs to have some level of protection and way to move them about.)

Alright, away the trio go! I went ahead and set up the next Transition Scene - In The Wake Of Sadness. CF and WW now have access to the scene UV was part of.
