Scene: Debriefing Room, Brickstown PPD Station

Crimson Fury is the first to be notified via his connnections with the PPD. UV is likewise informed via Hero Corps and Windwalker is brought in simply due to the urgency of the situation. "Thanks for coming, sorry about the lack of preparation but due to that damn virus, we got a lot of MIA's in the Penitentiary roster. Most of them are certain to turn up sooner or later, a majority of them aren't exactly considered a 'threat' per se since most of the real threats were taken out by the hijacked security systems...so I guess we can call that the silver lining in this dark cloud we've been dealing with."

She throws a folder on the table, scattering images and photographs across the surface in a makeshift collage and says, "Whatever you were doing, whoever you were looking for...put it on a backburner - this is priority." She turns on a slide projector displaying dated pictures of environmental catastrophes - a flood, an earthquake, a blazing inferno. She remarks over the steady flow of images, "Back in 30's, before 'Brass Monday'...there was a particular individual wrecking his own kind of havoc in Europe." The projector displays an image of a profoundly ancient looking man wearing a hooded cloak and robes as she intones with a sense of hesitancy, "His identity is unknown, even apparently unto himself, though he responds to what seems to be a self-made alias - The Arch-Druid."

The projector continues to display images of wholesale destruction, this time more recent - an industrial plant collapsed into a colossal sinkhole, images of logging equipment bent and broken beyond any possible state of repair, a mining town scorched to the ground, the list of injuries and fatalities extends well into the thousands...

"It took the combined effort of practically every single metahuman in Europe to drive him out, at least that's what the current running theory states. More than likely, this wonderful ray of sunshine has been steadily working his way towards eradicating the source of industrialization he's so fond of destroying...that led him here, to the United States. Fortunately, his reception was not well-recieved and was one of Zigursky Penitentiary's first inmates, until now..."

The projector displays an image of a short, squat inmate with large eyes. "Maxwell Tillerman, also known as 'The Mole', was last seen digging his own way out of the Zig. We almost had him apprehended..." A video is displayed showing The Mole cornered in an alleyway he apparently dug himself up from. "Get on the ground!" shouts an officer as a profoundly ancient and bearded man wearing an inmate outfit climbs out of the hole The Mole dug. "You there, freeze!" shouts one of the officers as the old man raises his gaze...and scowls.

A howling wind can be heard picking up before the video cuts out...and the lights turn on.

"We were able to recover the video recording..." she sighs. "Jerry Lawson died of hypothermia, flash frozen...Richard Burnside is in surgery, frostbite all the way to his left shoulder...if he's lucky, he'll just loose his arm."

The silence across the room is profound for a brief moment before she continues, "We've contacted all divisions and law enforcement agencies including Longbow and Vanguard. MAGI has agreed to provide whatever assistance we may need in order to bring the target in. Records have shown no real collaboration between the target and any existing organizations, past or present, though his collaboration with The Mole has cast some shade on this. Mr. Tillerman apparently had a soft spot for the target and frequently came to his defense while they served their time in The Zig...so this collaboration may be more than just a matter of convenience. Find The Mole...and we're one step closer to locating the target."

"I cannot emphasize enough the need to take the target down as expediently as possible, seventy years in the Zig clearly has not cooled his disposition towards authority, or society for that matter. If Archie here throws a hissy fit...he could turn Steel Canyon into the next Baumton. Considering his knack for wrecking industrialized areas - Terra Volta in Independence Port, the Paragon City Dam in Overbrook, and the entire PTA has been put on alert. The FBSA is likewise chipping in, working with foreign agencies in order to help try and locate the target". She adds sincerely, "If you encounter him, call for backup...don't be a hero with this guy - we already lost two officers who tried".

Scene: Debriefing Room, Brickstown PPD Station

Detective Maria Ramirez nodded as Fury entered the room. She knew who he was of course. She had been there when Mark's powers had emerged for the first time. She had not been so naive as he had to think their own government would never experiment on US troops. When they had found out, she had known how betrayed Mark had felt. That being said, the army had betrayed them before that by sending them off to a needless war in the first place.

Besides that, Maria and Mark did not want anyone connecting Fury with her. She preferred to remain behind the scenes, and stay in contact with his civilian ID. Besides, she just mocked his outfit every chance she got, and all Fury could do about it was groan and roll his eyes at her.

Mark sits, and looks over the folder and watches the video. He frowns and his eyes glow red when he hears about the fate of the officers. "I think the three of us should be taking the risks. I don't want more dead cops on my hands." He points out.

Re: Scene: Debriefing Room, Brickstown PPD Station

"I'd hate to break it to you, CF...but as long as ol' Archie's roaming about - everyone's at risk." replies Detective Ramirez. "According to MAGI, he's a walking environmental catastrophe in the making...all pertinent data regarding the target and known affiliates are included in the dossier."

She's not wrong, the target has a rather extensive catalog of known actions and potential which range from near unsurpassed command over the elements...

"'Near unsurpassed command over the elements', what's that supposed to mean?" inquires one of the officers present.

"It means he could blow a gust up your fat ass, Pachkowski...don't be dense." remarks another officer while looking over the material. "Any leads on this Mole? Hope we don't have to go into the sewer network for this guy...hate the freaking sewers."

Re: Scene: Debriefing Room, Brickstown PPD Station

Book of Wisdom Volume II.  Time is limited and the wise use it carefully.  Unless your an immortal.  Then time is pointless.

(Pupil): Why are we sitting here doing nothing?
(The Temple Master): So we understand the value of doing something.

Tenzing found his days busy as his little gym had new customers.
Nobody said it but most had just come to see the strange old man who somehow saved the zig.  Some where disappointed with what they found.  Many however found the old man's ways relaxing and where willing to learn from him.

Then Tenzing got the message.  He was needed.  Trouble with escaped inmates.
It was time again to test his skills and grow.

As is normal Tenzing arrived with little fuss.  He made a polite bow to everybody in room on entering it.  Then sat down.  He had a little smile on his face.  Happy to see the others.

Tenzing listened to Detective Ramirez words.  He gathers up the scattered images and photographs.  Somehow the monk did not like the mess.  He goes through the pictures organizing them.

He turns to Detective Ramirez.  It is interesting that He chose to befriend someone who name is after an animal.  Has anybody tried to place a minimum age on the man.  He is clearly able to weather time better than most.
He's powers seem to effect the weather and temperatures.  Has he shown any ability to effect minds.  Either that of normal people or animals?

Re: Scene: Debriefing Room, Brickstown PPD Station

Detective Ramirez concedes the floor to a senior staff member from the Zig as he elaborates more regarding the target in question. "He was old prior to my arrival to the Zig where I served as a sector supervisor for forty years...and before that, the arrest reports only classified his age as being 'unknown' - for the most part, he's served as an inmate longer than practically any Zig employee has been alive."

"On the level that I worked, most who worked above were scarcely aware he existed - he didn't eat, he didn't drink, he didn't sleep...it's questionable whether or not he even needed to breath. For the record, he may have very well been Zigursky Penitentiary's first incarcerated immortal. When he was first brought in, MAGI had insured he wore enchanted cold iron shackles, apparently they prevented him from utilizing his capabilities...so the extent of his abilities is based mostly upon hearsay. Unfortunately, what they portray isn't comforting. European agencies report fantastical and scarcely believable mystical occurrences, such as having the ability to conjure hordes of humanoid earth elementals to...apparently...an authentic dragon."

One officer in attendance spews out his coffee and sputters, "A freaking DRAGON?!?"

"Why isn't MAGI all over this guy?" interjects another looking decidedly less eager to pursue the target.

"MAGI lost track of him - apparently the bonds used to impair his abilities he's also using to make it impossible to locate him mystically." replies the senior Zig staff member.

"That's bloody convenient..." mutters another officer.

"He's older than you Peterson, it stands to reason he'd be smarter..." replies another officer. "So we got nothing but photograph and a probably lead regarding some ancient dude that can flatten cities...anyone else feel like getting donuts?"

In reply to Mender Phantasm (msg # 5):

"So as long as MAGI cannot track him he can't use his powers?" Mark pointed out. "So literally we have to wait for the next horrible weather event? That sounds like a bad plan. We need to figure out who had the means to grab him when the Zig went down. That can't be a large group of people with that sort of financial and criminal power."

Re: Scene: Debriefing Room, Brickstown PPD Station

"He put down two officers prior to his exit...how did he do that while still wearing those shackles?" inquires one of the officers.

"He apparently kept the shackles as a memento during his time spent in the Zig...most likely he's using of them to also mask his presence - smart move if you want to avoid mystic scrying, in my honest opinion. While it's uncertain how much of his potential he's reclaimed after his seventy or so odd years stuck in a hole...it should be assumed he's fully capable, or as near to fully capable as can be imagined - treat him as such." replies the senior Zig staff member.

"Wasn't this Mole some kinda hero?" inquires one of the officers.

"Not after he was accused of breaking a Senator's legs for an alleged human trafficking operation...an operation he was later found guilty of operating in collusion with." drones another officer.

"He was setup!" replies another officer. "I worked the Kings District, he looked out for the kids and the elderly. He wouldn't have been part of a human trafficking ring - that's ridiculous."

"It's not our job to interpret the law...just enforce it, Wiggins." replies the first officer. "Any reason to believe Mr. Tillerman would head back to Kings?"

"We're going to have to go into the sewers, man...freakin' hate the sewers." groans another.

Book of Wisdom Volume II.  Power lead to Power.  Power want more Power.

(Pupil):Master I have been set by the Emperor.
(The Temple Master):I is good to see you my dear Pupil.  What do the Great Empire want?
(Pupil):I am sorry Master.  The Emperor want your death.

Tenzing looks over to the two guards.
It is the powerful criminals you don't catch you would worry about.
Caring you are doing the job right.  Not by the book but by your soul is different between doing justice and being some criminal stooge.  I should know.
Your job is make sure law is just and far.  That other not abusing it.

He turns to Detective Ramirez.
I would suggest opening up the Moles case.  Someone not going like the idea but it an angle we can us.  However I understand if your not willing to do so.

Then he adds.
Do you wish us three to go into the sewers.  Even if the druid not in the place at lease we know it one less place to look.  I also sure we will find other problems to fix which will help the city in the long run.  Better than sitting doing nothing.

Re: Scene: Debriefing Room, Brickstown PPD Station

"That's the problem, CF...Mr. Tillerman has no past affiliation with any known criminal organization. Kept his nose clean even while serving time so he may well be operating solo regarding this." replies Ramirez as she steps off to the side allowing a ceiling projector to display an image of King's Row city district and roadways with about a dozen or so red dots scattered across the area.

"The red dots represent either the last place and time Mr. Tillerman was seen prior to his apprehension, or areas and locations he has been known to frequent," she states before the projector image changes displaying a series of blue dots that seem to literally cover the entirety of King's Row. "The blue dots represent either sightings of Mr. Tillerman, or incidences where he would collaborate with existing agencies, keeping the sewer network clear of gang activity. This data was extrapolated from sworn testimonies of other heroes during his criminal hearing."

'Fuck me..." blathers one officer.

"Li'l bugger knows how to get around..." intones another officer.

"I knew it...we're goin' into the sewers." moans another.

"So here's the deal, gentlemen," Ramirez states loudly to quell the murmuring, "We have Mr. Tillerman most likely holing up in an area he probably knows better then any of our own municipal city workers. He's also a digger, and eyewitness reports state he has made alterations to the sewer network making his own connective pathways and dugouts. Report to your team leads to find out which section you'll be covering. If there's crack in a wall big enough to squeeze your ass into...I want it probed. Confer with City Officials, any unapproved construction - a wall recently patched up, a tunnel collapsed, I want it excavated. Surround, contain, locate, apprehend. Time's not on our side, gentlemen. Get Mr. Tillerman into questioning...remember, you find Mr. Tillerman and we're one step closer to finding Archie. Let's get this wrapped up within the next 48 hours."

"What if the old man's with him, Captain?" inquires an officer in the back.

"If Archie's with him, do not engage - you call for backup. A unit of Hardsuits is on standby." Ramirez replies sternly.

"Looking for the world's smallest turd in the world's biggest toilet..." grumbles one officer as he stands up.

"Does our health insurance cover dysentery?" inquires another as the officers begin picking up their assignments and ready to move out.

In reply to Mender Phantasm (msg # 9):

quote:
Ramirez finds the time to talk to Crimson Fury briefly, "Marc, I got a bad feeling about this one...I don't want you to go. If things go south and you get really mad...the sewers structural integrity is old, you could cause a collapse...get trapped. I...I just don't want to see you get hurt."

Fury shook his head. "Look, don't get me wrong-It's nice to know somebody gives a crap. But I have flown out into space. Not to mention my anger repairs injuries and stuff. I can most likely track Tillerman by his emotions. What are the cops gonna do if they get into the same situation? They have people who will actually miss them at home...I don't have anyone waiting for me. Its better if I take the risk."

Fury was curious about Ramirez. His empathy abilities allowed him to see other people's emotions as colored lights. Not to mention his ability feed on his and other's rage and power his energy aura and blasts. It was those other, loftier emotions he had trouble connecting with. Most people where scared of his destructive nature...expect for Ramirez. Her emotions where all over the place when the subject of him came up. He tried not to pry into another's mind, but it was his version of eating and drinking. He did it reflexively, as his body was attuned to emotions he could survive off of. He was no empathy vampire, more like a battery that absorbed the emotions that other people put out into the world.

Windwalker was his calm thoughtful self.

I agree with Crimson Fury.  I fear you are sending good people into danger that have much to lose.
What you need is people with some power and nothing to lose.  Or in my case.  Have nothing left to lose.

He thinks for a moment.

We may have a problem with hunting the Mole.  A good man wronged is far more dangerous than badman looking for power.  Their outlook on life is different.  I would know.

He turns to the officer that had talked about Senator's legs being broken.
Which Senator did he break the legs off?  He ask the man.

"The Senator of Rhode Island? Senator Goddard...he was holding a 'Humans First' rally in Steel Canyon when the Mole showed up...." replies one of the officers as he scrutinizes his assignment papers while holstering his gear.

"Yeah...was a real nice, peaceful gathering..." mutters another, "Pity they forgot their hoods...effin' racists..."

"Oh come on, he assaulted the Senator!" replies another.

"The Senator accused Mr. Tillerman of human trafficking!" exclaims another.

"Hey, you didn't participate in the underground warehouse sting operation in Kings that happened five years ago. You weren't there when we caught the Mole red-handed...and I do mean RED! The recently deposited cool million that was frozen in his account established motive...having a history of petty theft. You wanna tell the parents of those dead children that you think he's innocent after they found his prints all over the scene? The lucky ones starved to death in those shipping containers...and that dirty little mutie had no alibi." growls one of the more seasoned vets.

"ENOUGH!" barks Ramirez quieting the throng, "We are not here to determine Mr. Tillerman's innocence. The court's already ruled by jury of his peer his guilt and subsequent conviction. Unless anyone has anything further to add, or has any evidence sufficient enough to reopen his case, then consider his case closed. Now gear up!"

"Never did identify the buyer..." mutters one officer under his breath.

"Shut up, Wiggins!" replies another.

Detective Ramirez holsters a less than standard firearm that appears to deliver a chemical round, all the officers appear to be carrying one along with their standard issue in fact.

"Not our first rodeo, boys..." she states towards Windwalker and Crimson Fury. "We're PPD, this is our job, this is what we get paid to do." Patting the unusual firearm she just holstered she adds, "...and GIFT has done a wonderful job perfecting these little babies. Remember the inhibitor collars they used at the Zig? Specified and targeted bio-electric pulse emitters which impairs altered genetic expression. The chemical rounds in these beauties likewise interfere with mutant gene expression, forcing the mutagenic gene into remission for about an hour. Trust me, Mr. Tillerman will not be a problem."

(The Temple Master): (A distance voice from the gardens) Hurry up dear Pupil.  The sun is almost on the flowers.
(Pupil): Ahhhhhh. Came the frustrated sound from the pupil's mouth.

I think our next move is in your hands.  I will defer to your judgement on our next action.

As he speaks so he looks Detective Ramirez over, taking in as much detail as he can.
