Character Conception
Greetings! I'd like to heavily incorporate character goals into the campaign structure, which requires strong character backgrounds and motivations. Please pitch concepts for characters, focusing on their short- or long-term goals/aspirations. Don't worry, there will be lots going on out in the world, too...but character involvement is key.

Mythic Character Options
I will definitely incorporate Mythic character option rules throughout the story - this is a major reason for wanting strong individual party member storylines. Consider how your character would want to progress (at least in a general sense) at that scale.

Ability Scores
Ability scores will be generated via point buy as specified on pg 16 of the Core Rulebook.

Each character has 30 points to use via point buy.

Gestalt Character Classes
We will be using gestalt characters. This means each character will take a level in two different classes each character level.

The higher of the increases from each class will be taken at each level for the following:
  • Fort, Ref, Will Base Save Mod
  • Base Attack Bonus
  • Skill Points

All other benefits of taking a level in both classes, including hit points, will be gained from both classes taken each level.

Characters will add their Constitution Mod to their hit dice every time it is rolled - including when they take max on their hit dice at first level. This means that each character will be adding their constitution modifier to their hit points twice each character level.

Traits & Background Generation
Each character may take two traits.
An additional trait may be taken if a drawback is chosen.

It is strongly recommended that you use the background generator found in Ultimate Campaign to assist in building your backstory, and gaining access to your traits. Random rolling is not required, and specific results may be chosen if they best fit your character concept. Please post any Background Generation results so the party can see them! (Please keep in mind all backstory information is privileged, and no prior knowledge of each other's characters is assumed unless played out in game).

Hybrid Classes
Hybrid classes, first introduced in the Advanced Class Guide, added unique new abilities to the game. Many of these classes had brand new mechanics that were created at least in part from aspects of existing classes. These new classes created their own brand of problems as well.

As we are running with Gestalt characters, if you take any levels in a hybrid class, you may not take any levels in any of the constituent core classes that form that hybrid class without GM approval. Similarly, if you have levels in a core class, you may not take any levels in any hybrid classes which are formed at least in part by that core class without GM approval.

Favored Class
Players may choose two favored classes. Every time they take a level in a favored class, they may choose a single favored class bonus. By default, these bonuses are either
  • +1 Skill Point
  • +1 Hit Point

There are many race-specific favored class bonuses that may be chosen in place of one of these.

Background Skills
We will be using the Background Skills system from Pathfinder Unchained. This designates certain skills as "Background Skills", which you may allocate Background Skill Ranks to each character level. Each character will receive 2 Background Skill Ranks each character level, to spend on Background skills as they wish. Note that the same restrictions on Max Ranks per character level still apply.

Starting Wealth
Roll on both of the applicable starting wealth tables for the classes you are taking at 1st level.

Campaign Starting Date
The in-world date when our campaign begins will be 19 Pharast, 4711 AR

Gestalt Character Classes
In reply to GM (msg # 5):

If I played a fighter/barbarian for whatever reason. I would gain d10 and d12 hit die each level? Plus my constitution modifier once? Or once for each hit die?

If I select two classes to gain a Favored Class hit point bonus would I then gain +2 hp every level when I take both those classes?

Hit Points & Constitution Modifier
In reply to Matt (msg # 8):

Your constitution modifier will be added to every hit die you roll (or, in the case of 1st level, take max on), which means you will add it twice each character level.

Will we be using the Background Skills optional rule out of the Unchained Book? I like it.

So at level one the character would gain either +1 HP or Skill point and not +2?

Re: Favored Class
In reply to Matt (msg # 13):

IF they took a level in both of their favored classes, they would choose a favored class bonus for each level they took in each class. So that could be two of any combination of skill points, HP, or other bonuses (at first level).

In reply to Matt (msg # 12):

We will be using Background Skills! I have added an entry to the top post.

Generally: +2 skill ranks per character level to be used only on Background Skills.

Character Sheets
I have inserted a basic template into each player's character sheets to provide a guide for building your character. Please try not to modify it too extensively (mostly in regards to the order of the items), so I can find information easily.

Character sheets can be accessed through "Character Details" in the upper-left of the screen, in the header.

There are definitely some awesome concepts to work with here! How are you feeling about your mechanics and backstory?
It looks like you rolled on three different class backgrounds; are you thinking you've narrowed down your starting class choices to those three?

I rolled three as wizard is one of my classes and the other class is a hybrid. I wanted to leave some ideas open for how he learned all of his professional skills. It's mostly story and it really mechanics in nature.

My character has some good mechanics to vary his usefulness and be interesting. I am not gripped by the design yet but figure if I write a more thorough background it might get more investment. If not I can roll something else and see what's what.

Each character has 25 points to use via point buy.

I thought I read somewhere that it's 30 points to use via point buy...?

  • Human Homeland: City or Metropolis
  • Both of your parents are alive.
  • Siblings : 2 older brothers
  • Circumstances of Birth : Noble Birth (Minor Prince)
  • Parents Profession : Artisans
  • Major Childhood Events : Bullied
  • Fighter : Knighted
  • Influential Associates : The Confidante
There was a person in your life to whom you could tell anything. She knows your deepest secrets and your emotional weaknesses and vulnerabilities just as you know hers. This person could be a valuable friend and a frightening enemy, so you make sure to never divulge her secrets or give her a reason to do so with yours.
  • Conflict : Betrayal
  • Conflict Subject :  Family member
  • Conflict Motivation : Jealousy
  • Conflict Resolution : Regret and Penance
  • Romantic Relationships : Experienced but No Substantial Relationships; You've had a fling or two, but have so far shied away from any ties or commitments.
  • Drawbacks : Justice
Unfairness and injustice are intolerable. Whenever you witness them, you feel compelled to act or speak out.
When you're personally wronged, you require appeasement—or revenge if you don't receive it. You gain access to
                the Headstrong drawback.
  • Background Traits - Rich Parents, Influence,  Trustworthy
