Even knowing specifically what I was looking for (the "how do I submit a portrait" section of the FAQ) it still wasn't the easiest to find. I'm not saying it's not there and I'm not saying you can't find it, and I'm not saying people shouldn't be reading the FAQs (though... we should rename them if you are *supposed* to read them top to bottom); what I'm saying is telling every single person to read the FAQ instead of putting one tiny little line on the submission guidelines seems utterly inefficient.

Well, we're nothing if not utterly inefficient.

Rather than autobleep profanity in posts, we inist that users make the effort to control themselves.   Rather than assume everything is OK unless someone sends us an rMail, we read every public post on the site.  It goes on... don't get me started on adult game moderation.

While yes, that qualification can easily be put in the submission list, and I have no issues with that, I still doubt most users will bother to read it.  Even with an account creation page which says in bold orange type that "Duplicate accounts will be removed", we still get a lot of "I didn't know multiple accounts weren't allowed here... sorry!"

I don't seriously think it will make it any less work for us to write it out more plainly on the page given the number of folks who already violate things plainly written on the applicable pages, so that's a non-persusasive argument to make.

But do carry on!

@jazzman831: I'm with ya bud. It *seems* like a no brainer. It's like an easy *text* change right? I really need to retire so I can help out with stuff like this. FYI. I'm filling up my super soaker now. I was going to use vodka but decided it was better to drink that in one hand while shooting with the other.

We're playing a bloody game here so in that sense I get the chill factor but where the heck is the fun in that? I actually found the FAQ link now that somebody mentioned it. Don't ask if I read anything. I'm not sure I passed 6th grade level reading comprehension anyway but I can wash rocks and squeeze a chicken with the best of them.

Ok so 1 portrait pic a month and best to over size it since it will get decompdiscombobulated on processing.

@cruinne: I don't see how you (meaning moderators) could possibly read every single non-private post. Aren't there like 6 million posts or something ludicrous like that? Though I do make an honest effort as a GM to review (allbeit some are a really quick scan) all posts in our game. I only remember once having actually to take any action.

Do you mean "how do you look at other portraits without changing the one you're currently using?"
Yes, as long as you don't click on the new portrait, you shouldn't change it.   Though, you might want to write down the location of your current portrait, perhaps in your Scratchpad, in case you change it accidentally, so you can change back.

Thank you... wanted to steal an image for a google doc battle map.  As long as you right click you can access copy / paste etc. menu.

Reminders:

Submissions must be received as attachments to an email.   If your submission is linked, it will be automatically discarded.

Only one submission per user will be uploaded per update cycle.  With 11100+ images in the gallery, we already have plenty from which to choose.

If you have several icons for consideration, can you submit them all attached to a single email?

Only one portrait per user will be accepted in a single cycle (usually a month).  If you submit three in the same cycle, only one will be accepted.  If you submit more than three, all will be automatically rejected.

FAQs and Things to Keep In Mind:

If you send multiple images, only one (max) will be used.

Images sent in formats other than jpg (especially those that are animated or have transparent backgrounds), or that are smaller than 100x100 may not survive the conversion process, and will not be uploaded if they are blurred, pixilated, etc.

If I cannot tell what an image is supposed to be (even with hints) it will not be used.

I noticed there is a shortage of non modern Asian pictures, in particular Wuxia style images. I have a lot of them and was wondering if I might be able to persuade you to allow me to aid in getting them posted. Perhaps in there own section or scattered among the others.

One rule for portrait submissions is that you should only submit portraits that you intend to use yourself, personally, rather than libraries of portraits just to fill out ideas about certain categories of need.

If you would like to submit a portrait, just follow the guidelines -- i.e., one portrait submission per cycle per RPoL user, mailed to the portrait editor (actual image, no links), &c.  The Portraits FAQ may be useful.

Since we only accept portraits for characters people intend to play themselves, the selection reflects that.  We don't add portraits just to meet diversity goals, nor should anyone submit them for that purpose.

Makes it hard to run a game set in Asia. There are a lot of martial arts role playing games set in the past. There are nowhere near enough character images to run one. Is there a problem with too many images on rpol? So it serves the purpose of utility.
