It will be left there.  As BBR said, pics are uploaded based on their appearance.  Hopefully when the people tagging get to that one, they'll tag it with the identity so that searches will help with any confusion.

While tagging, there have been quite a few incidences when my reaction to identifying  a portrait with Google Images has been 'THAT'S a (Man/Woman)???!!!'.

It looks like there's a problem on a few Male Portraits pages... They're not showing up.

I tried a few others, but they seem to be working all fine. Just the male ones not.

I've noticed that whichever server the males are on is notoriously glitchy.  Suddenly all the male portraits in a game will be red boxes with question marks in them.  It comes and goes, though, usually pretty quickly.

Out of curiousity, how do you get the piccy to show up that says the portrait isn't loading, when the portrait server's down?

Looking at the page source, Jase is using the onError event for the img tags.  The portrait calls a javascript function called "np" with "this" (images self reference) as the parameter.



So basically, if there is an error loading the image, it gets changed to no-portrait.gif.

The Javascript functions are defined in there.  Its a typical means to separate the two.  The same happens with the style sheets.

Pardon my intrusion if this is the wrong thread for this, but is there a reason that almost all of the male character portraits seem to have up and vanished?

The portraits are hosted on two different servers, one for the male, one for the female and neutral.  Occasionally the servers will be down, briefly, for maintenance (which is beyond RPoL's control) or your connection to the server will be interrupted due to a broken link in the chain between you and the server (again beyond our control).

Both problems are strictly temporary.

As mentioned earlier in this thread (msg #139), if the person submitting the portrait doesn't specify a location, then the portrait editor will select one, based on the appearance of the person in the image.

In this case the portrait looks like a young man.

Actually, even if a suggestion is made, it still goes where I think it fits, as at the time I'm uploading the submissions they have been separated from the email they were attached to.

Fair enough.

Do the new portraits get put on the last page of the category they've been added to? I'm trying to see if my portrait got added and I'm wondering if I can just check the last page of each of the categories to see if it's there.

When your portrait doesn't get posted, is there a process for finding out what was wrong with it? For that matter, is there some way I can verify that my email with the portrait was received?
