Quick question about moving messages within threads.

I want to move my recent message to the top of a thread, or have the thread be from bottom to top, as in newest message on top.  Is there a way to do this for just a single thread?

Re: Quick question about moving messages within threads.

To the best of my recollection, no.  The way RPOL catalogs threads (and recalls them) means that the most recent post is always at the tail end.  Switching that around would defeat some of the features on RPOL, like being able to link to a specific post within a thread.

Granted, I'm no code-monkey, so I could be very wrong.  This is my recollection of commentary from various other threads during the time I've been here...but it isn't guaranteed a hundred percent accurate.  If I'm wrong, someone please enlighten us on the matter.

facemaker329 is correct - the order of posts within a thread is fixed, reading downward, from oldest to newest.

Re: Quick question about moving messages within threads.

The author of the first post in a thread, or any GM can edit the first post whenever they want.  But keep in mind people are naturally directed to the newest posts so having things at the top are often less convenient than letting them simply add at the bottom.

But the GM could make a first post as as spacemaker, and edit the first post after each new addition, putting a copy of the content in the first post via edit.

In reply to LoreGuard (msg # 5):

That seems like a lot of work when I can just bump the thread after editing it if I was going to keep just one post there.

Re: Quick question about moving messages within threads.

Only GMs can bump a thread tho.

Re: Quick question about moving messages within threads.

I was asking as a GM.  Guess I didn't specify that.  I was just wondering if there was a way to keep one thread with newest post on top.  Guess not.

Thank you all.

Re: Quick question about moving messages within threads.

Another possible option...

You could have a thread that is a notice (so it will always stay at the top of the game thread lists), and keep your 'latest message' as the message visible there...when you needed to update/replace the message, you could copy it into an archive thread (not to be confused with an ARCHIVED thread).  That way, people could go back and read older messages, if needed.

But, really, there's no need to keep the newest post on top.  Just get your players in the habit of clicking the 'new' or 'last' link from the game menu listing for the thread (most of them already are, anyway).  It will accomplish the same function...click on 'last', you go to the most recent post in the thread, which also happens to be the last post.

So, there's already a pretty simple workaround in place...
