photobucket pictures on rpol

I know it was posted here a long time ago, but how do we make pictures show directly on our game pages from Photobucket?

<a href="http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Feyda_Weye/media/hermes_zpsswi3carh.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b551/Feyda_Weye/hermes_zpsswi3carh.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo hermes_zpsswi3carh.jpg"/></a>

I know you cut off parts but I forget which ones.

The usual image linking code is <img src="url here">, but Photobucket isn't working because of a change in their ToS. They no longer allow 3rd-party hosting or "hotlinking" unless you pay something like $39.99USD per month for a privileged account, which means no more using Photobucket for RPoL. :( Imgur is the hosting service I've had recommended most to me since this change came down the pipe a few days ago, so I'd suggest switching to that. The code for placing an image into a post would be the same.

Plus, if you bother to create an account on imgur, and upload your pictures while signed in, they won't expire.

You can only link images in games.  That function is disabled for the public forums.

And also, you need to post a link to the image, not the site showing the picture. Your link needs to end in something.jpg for example. In imgur, usually you can right-click on the image and pick "Show image in new tab" or something similar. That should then provide you the link required.

On Imgur, you need to use 'get share links' and copy the one that shows BBC code.  I believe it's the 2nd choice on the left.

photobucket pictures on rpol

Saw this post and rushed back to my own game.
I have had a free photobucket account for years and use it fairly regularly for trade sites and here.

Not sure when this is supposed to take effect, all my image posts are working fine.

Not sure if it matters but I use the following code

I tried to back link that and got a warning line and no such address exist plus a bunch of stuff I did not put in to the link. So it's likely begun.

You can get that one to work fine by simply adding .png at the end of the address (before the closing quote).

Odd. Confirmed that I was on the free service for Photobucket. I made sure to be logged out of photobucket.
Went to http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn24/mrrshann618/Elric_Stormbringer/Chanel_zpsxyyc15oz.png

and it worked. I'm using Firefox, not sure if that matters.

It may be starting, if it is starting it seems spotty at best.

Re: photobucket pictures on rpol

I've been using PhotoBucket for my images in all of my games and the images still seem to be posted.  Could be a slow roll-out though.

Re: photobucket pictures on rpol

Photobucket has announced that they no longer allow 3rd party hosting except for paid accounts, and it's like $400 a year for the cheapest plan paid annually.

They're dreaming, I think.

They do seem to be switching their servers over a bit at a time, but everyone will start to see their hosted pics replaced by a generic image that announces that you have to upgrade to a paid account.

Ah, so they are Trying to go out of business then. The amounts they want when there are so many other Free options still out there means they are not likely to last all that long as they seem to think.
So sad when this happens to what was once a good and well used sight.

In reply to ShadoPrism (msg # 14):

To be fair, with dropping ad revenues across the board for everyone, this may literally be a last gasp effort to stay afloat.  There are plenty of internet-based companies whom have tried using ads to support their business models (and offering services for free) that are being forced to find alternative revenue streams to stay solvent.

Companies are starting to wake up to how ineffective the average ad banner (or pop-up or whatever) is and are offering less money to sites for placing them.  After all, a large percentage of the viewing internet blocks them anyway, now.  And, those that don't often barely notice them at all, even if they're required to actively close the ad to get where they're going.

For a company like photobucket with such heavy server costs, it's hard to imagine a small membership fee could make up for that lost ad revenue.  It may be that $40 per month is what they think it'll take, even after lost membership from the nature of a paywall.

Re: photobucket pictures on rpol

Maybe, but when you can purchase more hosting/bandwidth than they provided, and use one of the free softwares available with basic cpanel to make your own gallery for less than $5 per month ...

If they need $40 per month to stay afloat, methinks they're going to sink.  Like a proverbial rock.

I think it is a bit much, especially when you can get your own website for less.

Well that doth suck...but I just banged out a quick Imgur account so we'll see how things go from here.  To be fair, PB was stupid slow and seemed to bog down every other window I had open, so I'm really not that crushed.

I keep my photos on Google Photos and use the Google URL Shortener to make the direct links manageable.

Re: photobucket pictures on rpol

Just had this all happen as well. Asked around and went to look at Imgur, which is where I ended up, and am happy for the change. Np more 10 second lags and all those ads to work through.

Imgur is the pace to go, at least imho.  :)

I recommend postimages.org. It's free and doesn't seem to have traffic limits.
