Sara: A Night Time Visitor
"He's a baby." Griffix said, bending down on his haunches to peer under the bed.

"He said he'd find someone to send a big stack of letters to your room since he'd known I'd be a' comin.'"

"Well, not really a baby. More like a Baby-demon. He's got a diaper and long fingernails and sharp teeth, really."

Sara observed that Griffix himself had long fingernails.

"May I?" Griffix gestured, indicating he wanted to see if he could fish something out from underneath Sara's bed.

"Sure..." Sara muttered, perplexed. She'd have to keep an eye out for the demon baby.

Griffix stuck first his arm under Sara's bed and then his shoulder. Sara's could hear a ruffling sound, the sound of papers. When he pushed his head underneath the bed, Sara could see that a large wolf tail protruded from Griffix's backside. It wagged slightly as Griffix found whatever he was looking for and pulled it out from underneath the bed.

It was a large stack of letters, all tied together with a brown string.

Griffix licked his lips upon seeing the stack, as if he was ready to chow down on a much needed meal.

Sara watched the tail with fascination. She thought as much. He was that hound thing. As for the letters... well, they were probably full of bad things, weren't they? The young miscreant felt a sudden pang of regret at not having read them.

""Do you want to eat one?" Griffix asked Sara, just before he pushed a letter into his mouth.

That took her by surprise. "Can I?" she asked, meaning both 'may I?' and 'could I, physically?'.

Griffix extended his hand out, holding a yellowed envelope. Sara could see that the yellow envelope was clutched by yellowed, long fingernails. They were ugly and curled like that of some kind of forest creature. Griffix held the envelope out further.

"It tastes like the bad things that a bunch of kids do." He explained, as if he was describing a delicious sandwich to Sara or some kind of prime cut roast.

Sara stared at the nails distractedly for a few moments, then accepted the envelope. Was there anything written on it?

Griffix finished chewing the envelope as he looked up to see how Sara was going to respond to the envelope in her hand. It was crinkled, but there didn't appear to be any writing on it.

Then Griffix started to cough. First just a little, and then it became a full-on hacking fit, bits of paper from the envelope and letter coming out of his mouth and onto the floor.

Sara watched Griffix for a bit, then decided to try it herself. Whatever, she's eaten paper before. Not a whole envelope, though.

Sara chewed a piece of the envelope, putting the paper corner into her mouth and.....

Sara rolls "Stamina +2" with the following results:

0 Successes: Blah! Sara vomits. It tastes like...like...paper!

1-3 Successes: Blah! Tastes like paper.

4 Successes: It tastes...like...paper? So what? That's it?

Sara scarfed a large chunk of the envelope down and frowned. Did he just trick her into eating paper? She gave the monster an accusing look.

19:16, Today: Sara rolled 2 successes using 4d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s ((10(+1),5,8,2)).

But the Monster was too busy coughing to even notice Sara's look. Griffix fell to one knee and grabbed his throat with one hand. His eyes strained to look at the other hand holding an envelope with its own chewed corner.

"Blurgghhh!" He croaked, spitting out bits of paper.

"Its......Lies!"
He stammered. "They.....aren't...real....letttersszzzzz."

The Leprechaun had eaten at least one letter and was starting on the corner of another letter. Now its face was as red as scarlet. Two red tears of blood trickled out of its eyes and rand down its cheeks before falling to the floor.

"GaLHCK!"
It croaked. Then it fell onto its side.

It inched its way towards the bed, pulling itself forward with one arm.

Sara tossed the remaining half of her letter back under the bet, as if it might bite her, then went to help Griffix up to the bed. "Hey, come on," she whispered frantically, "what kind of monster are you? You can't let some lies kill you! People lie all the time." What kind of lame weakness was that?

"P..P...Posionnnnn" The Leprechaun murmured. Or really it was more like the dying breath of someone who had choked on something. Sara had heard stories of little kids choking on things. Like legos or something like that.

But how could a letter poison someone and make them choke? There certainly wasn't anything poison tasting about the letter Sara had chewed.

The monster-thing looked up at Sara with glazed eyes. It was slowing inching its way under the bed.

"GrracK!"
Griffix croaked.

And then. He stopped moving.

Sara let go when it became clear Griffix was trying to get under the bed instead. She stood and stared for a few moments, feeling strangely sad. Then, she shoved the corpse (?) under the bed. Maybe it'd help. Or maybe she could get a better look at it tomorrow.

It wasn't very hard to do. Shoving Griffix's corpse under her bed, was kind of easy, given the small size of the body. Everything in the room was silent as soon as Sara pushed the corpse under the bed. She was left with the sense of being alone and in the quietness of her own room. And then....

Thugabugahtroff!

Griffix's body tumbled and fell down...down..down. Sara watched the Leprechaun's small arm disappeared rapidly underneath the bed, as if falling into some giant hole that was under her bed. She heard the muffled sound of the body bouncing around inside that whole until everything was silent again.

Sara felt around aimlessly pawing at the air. Her hand reached a groove.

No.

A hole. An actual hole where the floor was missing. There was no rug. No Griffix. No body. Just an empty space where the floor should have been. She could feel the contours of the rug form a wall downward like the floor had sunk in underneath her bed.

Climbing under the bed, Sara tried to get a sense of how big the hole was. Big enough... for her?

It was dark under the bed. And smelly. It smelled like old moth balls. Like someone hadn't done enough cleaning or dusting. And the way that the rug sunk downward seemed to indicate that the whole was really wide and really deep.

Sara felt the contours of the outer edge, realizing that it was big. Certainly big enough to fit herself in there.

Sara stopped. Did she really want to get a closer look at where monsters go when they die? Shouldn't she at least get some sleep first?

...what if the hole wasn't there in the morning? Besides, she felt that she did Griffix a favour. If he was still alive down there, he owed her.

Curiosity prevailed. She climbed down into the hole.
