It looks like several of us may be at least slightly undecided on exactly where we want to go with characters for this thing.

Do we want to try to stick to a single type of magic psi or tech characters, or spread out between the categories and see if that generates some interesting conflicts?

I'd like to try a techno-wizard, I've mostly played "men-at-arms" O.C.C.'s and figured why the heck not.

My problem is that i have so many character ideas.  One of the most fun IRL Rifts games I played, it was as a gung-ho, guts'n'glory True Atlantean Undead Slayer.  On here, I played him, as well as a Gargoyle Psynetic Crazy (Mindwerks world book).  The Gargoyle had a +20 vs Horror Factor thanks to brain damage from implants, and he met this Native American Demigoddess with an Awe Factor of 18.  Only had to roll a 2, but got a natural 1.  GM decided the Gargoyle fell in love with her.LOL. 20' tall, 1 ton lovesick demonic puppy.
Yeah.  I have so many ideas begging to be created and played.

*waves*

I'm thinking of a more man-at-arms focus as I normally play psi or operator types characters. Current concept in front of the GM is a Elven Robo-Jock

I'm thinking about something along the lines of a Crazy, or maybe a transplant from Heroes Unlimited or Ninjas & Superspies.

So we have an elf in a bot, a techno wizard noob, something crazy, and I was thinking a cyborg mercenary which splits the difference between the crazy and the bot, so we end up with a mostly tech focused group with an 'odd' mechanic?

I'm aiming to make the game fit to the characters rather than vice versa.  If there is something you like playing and has been a problem in the past because Palladium, talk to me.  The one that immediately comes to mind is magic.  You can't pull out the good stuff  in combat because so many of those spells require too many attacks to be worthwhile.  I know how wonky this system can be.  I'll try and tweak a few things here and there to make sure it runs smoothly.  Combat works great when it's even pairs.  That almost never happens, though.  Combatants don't wait on the sidelines to get tagged in.  It's usually a messy free for all.

I had another thought that you guys might be interested in.  Want to power up this bitch?  I was thinking it might be fun to max out all rolls at 1st level.  Not stats.

If you want to run a Rifts game in a system that makes sense than it is probably a better idea to use the Savage Worlds version of Rifts, other than that it is going to be messy no matter what happens.

Hello everyone!

I am currently thinking of trying out a Dragon Hatchling who will be looking to travel with you guys and learn from you as young dragons tend to do.  Skills I am going to try to aim them in the direction of a Wilderness Scout.  Even travel around in human form with some acquired human gear to try to look the part too.

In my old campaign (actual in person table top many years ago) I never got a chance to play a dragon and wanted to try it out.  I understand most of you are more tech based and frankly that would be a reason for my dragon to want to travel with you anyway.

I guess I could also just show up as a cat that inexplicably follows you around too and occasionally breathes fire, but figured the human form might be easier to interact with everyone else.

I of course do not want to cause any problems so I will ask, are there any protests to this?

It makes enough sense for me.  I just have some minor issues.  I've played Palladium for almost 20 years.  It's all about keeping things organized to suit my level of sanity.

Yeah I'm in!

I'm considering either playing some sort of psi character of a man-of-arms type like a headhunter of a PA pilot type.

I'll just have to dig out my books once I get home.

Cool with maxing this out, though stats is clearly where that would be most insane ;)

Cool with a Hatchling, though I would err on the side of a comfortable human form as the one's I've seen go sideways have been all about the kookiness

Maxed out stats would be a bit much.  I'm thinking things like max HP, SDC, ISP, and PPE.

I have no issues with anyone's character, as several have mentioned its rifts and there is little balance in the game. :) doing max on the random rolls after stats is cool, I would ask if we could try for a re-roll ones on stats my first three rolls put half or more of my stats at an 11 or less, some way less.

Having played a hatchling dragon myself more than a few times I have no problem with it, the GM suggested we not play 'monster' characters but with the ability to disguise yourself as a human you may be able to get around that restriction in a way something like a Gargoyle crazy could not.

I assume if we are planning to even try to balance tech and magic we are looking at somewhere in the 5-8th level range but we may also want to seriously consider either XP based level or even better a dynamic level in which more powerful character types start (and stay) at a lower level.
